Ending the AIDS Epidemic: How (RED) and Apple's Partnership is Making a Difference

Discover how an 18-year collaboration is addressing the evolving global health crisis and driving progress towards an AIDS-free future.

Since 2006, Apple customers have contributed over $250 million to the fight against AIDS, supporting vital prevention, testing, counseling, and treatment services in communities most affected by the epidemic.

Apple-supported grants have provided HIV testing for 207 million individuals, offered HIV prevention services to 43 million young people, and delivered treatment to 5.6 million HIV-positive mothers to prevent mother-to-child transmission.

A portion of the proceeds from every (PRODUCT)RED purchase goes to the Global Fund, funding critical health programs that save lives. Learn more at apple.com/product-red.

The global fight against AIDS has shown promising progress. Thanks to increased access to life-saving medications, AIDS-related deaths have fallen by 69% globally since their peak in 2004, and new HIV infections among children have declined by 62% since 2010.

However, women and girls continue to be disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS. In 2023, 4,000 girls and young women were infected with HIV each week globally, and in sub-Saharan Africa, girls accounted for over 60% of all new HIV infections.

Ensuring that every pregnant woman has access to an HIV test and, if needed, treatment and counseling throughout pregnancy, delivery, and breastfeeding is critical to ending the AIDS epidemic.

The Global Fund's comprehensive approach, which combines prevention, testing, counseling, sexual reproductive health services, and treatment programs, is designed to reach women and girls with a "cyclical approach," says Luisa Engel, who leads the strategy and impact team at (RED).

"Once that child is born HIV-free, they need access to continued education and prevention services throughout adolescence and adulthood," Engel adds. "Prevention among young people is critical to ending AIDS."

Amplify the Impact: Share Apple Watch Faces for (PRODUCT)RED

You can also help spread awareness and support the fight against AIDS by sharing the eight downloadable Apple Watch faces to match your (PRODUCT)RED watch band. The watch faces are available for free at apple.com/product-red.

"We cannot take our attention off this global health crisis," Engel says. "The goal of (RED) is not just to raise the money but also to raise awareness and make it easy for people to get involved."
