Explore the Magic of The Sims: Empowerment and Self-Discovery

Discover how The Sims allows you to be anyone you want to be and breaks down societal barriers.

Experience the thrill of The Sims FreePlay for over 12 years now, The Sims FreePlay has captivated players with its unique concept: guiding the characters you create on their journey to become the best (or worst!) versions of themselves.

It's like being the director of a reality TV show, but with endless possibilities. A single mother who is also a firefighter? A same-sex couple raising two mischievous kids? In The Sims FreePlay, there are no limits.

"We don't aim to make a political statement, but rather enable players to create their own version of the world," states Kate Gorman Revelli, VP of The Sims franchise at Electronic Arts. "By providing a welcoming space, we hope to offer powerful tools for exploration."

Build and expand your town into a bustling hub of activity.

Revelli is an exceptional figure in the gaming industry: a female executive in her mid-30s overseeing one of the biggest gaming brands. Having started playing The Sims during middle school, she understands firsthand the empowering nature of trying out different lives through a video game—especially for women, who make up a significant portion of The Sims' core audience.

Embarking on an exploration in a judgment-free and bully-free space can lead to genuine self-discovery moments.

"Unfortunately, many women and girls often feel restricted by societal expectations and judgment," she explains. The world of The Sims FreePlay eliminates these boundaries. "Embarking on an exploration in a judgment-free and bully-free space can lead to genuine self-discovery moments."

Welcome to the Next Chapter

Your Sims can enjoy lots of stylish locations in the game.

This isn't to say that The Sims FreePlay doesn't have room for improvement, particularly when it comes to body diversity. Since its release in 2011 (a lifetime ago in the gaming world), the game still relies on a code engine that restricts Sims to slim body types.

Revelli, however, is undeterred and optimistic about the future. "We're actively considering how we can undergo a comprehensive upgrade," she reveals. "I'm excited to usher The Sims into a new era."

Sims love a party, especially when there's ice cream involved.

Above all, Revelli emphasizes that The Sims FreePlay isn't just about recreating your own life within the game—it's about broadening your perspective.

"When people create their stories, we want them to not only focus on their own representation of the world but also see it through different lenses," she adds.

Sometimes, this means seeing yourself from a different angle.

"My Sim looks and acts just like me, but she spends most of her time gardening and hanging out with pets," Revelli shares. "And she manages to get so much more sleep."
