### 2/5 — Opposite effect

*2026-07-04, version 3.5.8*

Used to be free and I was through half of the steps now I can’t progress. I’m more stressed now because of this app. Make the 12 steps free and require a subscription for content that actually gets updated.

### 2/5 — Not working as advertised

*2026-06-02, version 3.5.7*

As another reviewer said - you cannot progress along the 12 steps free program unless you pay now. And it’s not cheap. Why have you locked it like that ?

### 1/5 — Lost their mission

*2026-05-23, version 3.5.7*

I was encouraged to find an app/organization focused on helping people instead of making a buck (like TM), but early in my experience the app switched to full paywall for all features, and the subscription is way out of line for the value. Not sure who came up with the price but they are clearly not very experienced. Hopefully user backlash will remind 1GM of their original vision.

### 1/5 — What a shame!!

*2026-05-18, version 3.5.6*

I used to love this app.

It wasn’t flashy. The UI was a bit clunky. But that was part of the charm. It was simple, useful, and most importantly… free.

I recommended this app to so many people over the years because it just worked without trying to nickel-and-dime users every five minutes.

Now it feels like the original value proposition has completely changed. Features that made the app great are locked away, the experience feels bloated, and the simplicity that made it appealing is disappearing fast.

Really disappointing to see. I would have happily continued supporting and recommending it if it stayed true to what made people love it in the first place.

Deleting it today.

### 2/5 — Like everything, it’s all about money

*2026-05-17, version 3.5.6*

Got this meditation app four years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed it and found it super helpful. I even recommended it to people at work. Having not used it for a couple of months, logged in today to find I can only use it if I now subscribe. Absolutely disgusted, this goes against the mantra (literally) and point of the app which is to bring peace and harmony to one’s self. At £9.99 per month as well, that is shocking and a purely commoditised platform, shame on you. Poor show One Giant Mind, I hope others pull away from you too.

### 1/5 — Deeply disappointed in new update

*2026-05-16, version 3.5.6*

This used to be the app that was my rock. A streamlined, simple app dedicated solely to meditation - a timer, music or guidance if wanted, simple bell as ending, and little else. It felt like an app that supported what meditation is. Now we’re forced into paying - and I get that everyone needs financial support but $9.99 a month for a timer?? Meditation doesn’t need features and updates, it just needs to *be*… and that’s what used to be great about this app. I’d have paid a lower rate but cannot justify so much that I can do, albeit less happily, on my own

### 1/5 — Very disappointing

*2026-05-10, version 3.5.6*

Feels kind of gross that a once free app should suddenly switch to paid after many years. I wouldn’t mind paying if I knew my money was helping people who couldn’t afford access it, but no, they want everyone to pay loads for once free content.

### 2/5 — Glitchy app for high price

*2026-05-07, version 3.5.6*

I enjoyed this app when it was free, despite its regular glitches. Because it was free, I made due with the glitches. After many glitches, I made it through all the training and was enjoying daily use of the meditation timer. Then, without warning it locked me out with a high-priced paywall. Since the app always glitched out, I could not justify spending my hard earned money on it just for a timer with nice ambient music. They should have offered long-time users more affordable options. I am very disappointed because the meditation technique did work for me, but it’s just too expensive for an app that doesn’t work well.

### 2/5 — Thank you for being so generous

*2026-05-04, version 3.5.5*

That was a really good app which I voluntarily shared and recommended to everybody wanting to have a closer relationship with a mindful life. However during this one year, after this update, they turned this beautiful free app into a subscription based model app. I was expecting that this app is about sharing this unique flow with others and teaching, but now I began to realise that this could sadly have same mindset with other paid guru’s…

### 3/5 — Good but glitchy

*2026-05-02, version 3.5.5*

This app has been helpful with meditation but consistently has issues. Now I see they are trying to charge a hefty fee which is ridiculous. Before you charge people you need to build out the app better.

### 1/5 — Latest update

*2026-04-30, version 3.5.5*

The entirety of the app used to be free. Then the app got all buggy and stopped working for a few years. Its still not functioning properly.
1. After Meditation 4 of 12 STEPS the “bell” warning is gone. So IT IS SO JARRING when you suddenly hear a mans voice.
2. In the 30 day challenge THE meditation bell SHOULD come on at the end BEFORE Jonni speaks. It comes during the final 3 seconds. Dumb. JARRING.
3. The timer Option doesn’t give the bell until after a voice speaks and SCARES you out of meditation. Again JARRING. Defeats the purpose.
4. The audio is CRACKLY. Coming from the left input. It occurs throughout the meditation sporadically. Like it was recorded with a loose connection- so its really distracting. I bought new headphones- and it remains.
5. Some of the “extra content” doesn’t load from the website.
6. Consider making the meditation timer part free. And charge for access to 12 steps. But PLEASE FIX THE VOICE COMING BEFORE THE BELL AT THE END. Ffs!
7. Maybe add allowing FAST FORWARD and REWIND options during audio play.
8. Not worth the subscription. Everything you learn occurs in 12 steps. After that the app is rendered useless because of the poor audio quality, lack of consideration for ending the meditation, no additional features.

### 2/5 — App Still Buggy

*2026-04-27, version 3.5.4*

The meditation method taught seems great—but the app has been buggy for me and I’ve not been able to unlock Step 2 or get customer support.

The app will not unlock Step 2. I’ve logged kit/logged in, and deleted and reinstalled the app multiple times, but it remains stuck at Step 1 and treats me like a new user each time I go into the app (though it does show a daily meditation streak from the multiple tiles one repeater Step 1). Fortunately I took advantage of the free 2 month intro, so I haven’t spent any money yet.

### 1/5 — Bad business practices

*2026-04-27, version 3.5.4*

A hard paywall for existing user is very bad business. A better approach would have been to grandfather in existing users and allow them to continue to use the original features for free, then allow them to upgrade to paid for any new features. (Which you haven’t introduced.)

Your app has been broken for many months and multiple support requests (from me) landed on deaf ears. Multiple one star reviews from many users communicated to you that your app was broken and still no comments to these reviews or fixes for many months. Then when you finally say the app has been fixed you surprise us with a steep monthly subscription or a highly questionable $50 one time payment. But how do we know that app has even been fixed? The timer is blocked behind a paywall. How do we know your customer support has improved? If this is how you surprise your existing customers, I don’t feel this is an improvement.

I’ve moved on from your app. You’ve lost me as a supporter and evangelist for 1 Giant Mind and as an app users.

### 1/5 — They want you to pay now

*2026-04-25, version 3.5.4*

Not needing to pay is what originally drew to this app. Many of the popular meditation apps focused on paying for content, while this one got straight to the point. It still does, but It’s no longer a free to use app. Looks like goals shifted, which is not great for those who have used it for a long time financially and mentally. For new users it may be of value, but as a long time user myself have gone through the stage of being let down.

### 1/5 — With every update it’s been more unusable, now it’s completely bricked and they’re trying to charge

*2026-04-24, version 3.5.4*

Just downloaded the latest update, been using the app since the beginning despite all the bugs increasing with each update. Just tried the one week trial to give them the benefit of the doubt, but now the mediation timer plain doesn’t work when it used to work at least after you reloaded, redownloaded the timer and reopened the app a couple times. Feels like a scam now. I used to recommend this to my friends and I feel bad that I did. I never review apps, that’s how disappointed I am. I used it daily despite the glitches. Goodbye

### 1/5 — Started well, but ran into bugs and paywalls.

*2026-04-23, version 3.5.3*

Was recommended the app by a friend. Really enjoyed the intake process, and the available content.

However, the meditation timer would often glitch out, the app would randomly log me out, and it’s now fully paywalled behind a subscription.

Great concept, but less than great experience.

### 1/5 — Not free, bad audio quality

*2026-04-23, version 3.5.3*

After being forced to update the app, now the 12 step meditation is locked behind paywall. So no more free content. at all. Very disappointing. The quality of the audio and app is amateur, the subscribtion far too expensive.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Great at first…

*2026-08-31, version 3.5.10*

But if you allow your subscription to lapse, they lock you out of the progress you already made - and paid for.

### 1/5 — they sold out

*2026-08-28, version 3.5.10*

they are not letting me meditate for free anymore

### 1/5 — Not worth it

*2026-08-20, version 3.5.10*

As others have said. This app was glitchy but it was worth it since it was free. Now it costs $50. I might have said it’s worth $5.

### 1/5 — Rug Pullers

*2026-08-13, version 3.5.10*

I was genuinely a huge fan of this app, I used to recommend it to everyone in my life. When this app was free, it was one I was grateful for. After a while of using it, the app became a buggy mess, which I was willing to forgive because it was free and I had already gone through the course a few times. The glitchiness became so severe that the app was unfortunately unusable and I had to uninstall it. After months of utilizing other apps and having updated my phone, I decided to try downloading One Giant Mind again, only to find that the free meditation course is now hidden behind a $50 paywall. I used to recommend this app as a way to practice transcendental meditation for free. This app was valuable at one time, but so limited in features that there is no way it is worth $50. Save your money and use the free version of Insight Timer.

### 1/5 — Wack

*2026-07-26, version 3.5.8*

Used to be such a great application to learn how to meditate… a shame this is locked behind a monthly paywall now.

### 1/5 — Frustrated

*2026-07-01, version 3.5.8*

I’m unhappy with the app. I’ve used it daily for 10 years. It was free, now it costs $15 a month and I’m not sure why? If there was an explanation I’d probably be happy to contribute because it’s helped me for so many years but I don’t believe anything has changed on the app to warrant the subscription. Could the meditation timer be free to use?

Side note to the app developers: The bell is awkwardly timed at the end of the meditation now.. not sure if anyone tested the meditation timer from start to finish.

### 1/5 — Offensive money grabbing stitch up!

*2026-06-26, version 3.5.1*

After seriously enjoying using the app for a long time while it was free, the sudden forced “upgrade” to the paid only version came at a really bad time for me owing to a family bereavement where as a result I was unable to access it when I really needed it most. Eventually having resolved the sign up issues for the 2 month free trial I contacted the support team to ask for a list of the promised “improvements” - as I could see none. After no response and with the absence of a free version I’m afraid my 1giantmind journey is coming to an end. A once beautiful idea has now been corrupted by the greed of whoever has bought the original app in order to abuse the goodwill of the original users. I appreciate there may be server costs, which I would not mind paying for, however what is being asked for in terms of a monthly subscription is far too high for an app with zero promised improvements. The fact that it has a 4 star rating in the App Store must be down to previous reviews before it became paid only - just check the other more recent negative reviews since the change! I really can’t see this as anything other than a money grabbing con and will be reporting it to Apple as such with the recommendation that all ratings before it became paid only are removed and even ask them to delete the app itself. This is a scam!

### 1/5 — Now useless without “Premium”

*2026-06-24, version 3.5.7*

Listen, if none of the meditation options on your formerly free app now work without a Premium subscription, you’re not charging for “premium access”—you’re just charging for access. I get keeping some stuff behind a paywall, but damn. Too bad.

### 1/5 — Sad to see

*2026-06-17, version 3.5.7*

I used to enjoy using just the timer functionality, separate from the courses. Now even that is behind a paywall.

I understand that you want to be compensated for your work but surely you could’ve seen that paywalling your existing content without providing anything else of value wasn’t the right way to do it.

I hope you’ll restore the original free functions of the app but I fear that it may be too late to reverse the negative review wave you’ve unleashed upon yourselves. I, for one, will not be keeping the app downloaded or holding my breath for any change.

### 1/5 — Used to be free

*2026-05-26, version 3.5.7*

The app used to be free, now we have to pay $9.99 a month? I really liked it but come on

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The one app that I could work with and it’s free!

*2026-06-01, version 3.5.7*

I downloaded so many different fancy Meditation app and tried them out, but for some reason, this is the only one that was just simple enough and it worked and stuck with me so I am back

### 5/5 — Although it requires subscription it still rocks

*2026-05-07, version 3.5.6*

I understand the complaints about the subscription but the app has been free for so many years. Because it has helped me so much I decided to buy lifetime subscription. The app is finally getting updates

### 5/5 — Glitchy buggy and not free

*2026-05-01, version 3.5.5*

Although online multiple places say this is a free course, it’s not you cannot do anything without subscribing to the premium content talk about bait and switch

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-02-04, version 3.5.2*

This app has helped me create a consistent practice that I enjoy coming to. It is great if you find breath meditation hard. And from what I can tell it’s like TM or Vedic meditation but free. Thank you !

### 5/5 — The best meditation app

*2026-01-08, version 3.5.2*

I have learned 3 different meditation techniques over a decade and I can confidently state this is the most effective and easiest way to learn meditation. I have recommended it to many beginners, including kids, and their experience has been outstanding. And I can’t believe it is still free after many years - I would gladly pay for it.

### 5/5 — Best Meditation App I’ve Ever Used

*2025-12-14, version 3.5.2*

I learned mantra-based meditation for hundreds of dollars years ago. Everything I learned in that course is in this app. For free. A must use app for anyone who’s ready to take the dive within and experience more inner peace.

### 5/5 — Forget Headspace

*2025-10-27, version 3.5.1*

Compared to headspace and other apps I actually feel like there’s positive intent besides just making a buck. Sure there’s a monetary incentive with the teaching course they plug but otherwise I dont feel like I’m being milked for every dollar. Too many apps take advantage of how vulnerable users in a bad state of mind.

Looking at you HEADSPACE!

### 5/5 — Very buggy

*2025-02-23, version 3.5.1*

I like it but it is very buggy. Sometimes it moves tp the next step and sometimes it doesn’t.

### 5/5 — Amazing experience, app has a few bugs

*2025-01-25, version 3.5.1*

This app is incredible and teaches a different type of meditation I never heard of before. No mumbo jumbo just straight to the point, I also follow them on instagram. The app has a bug that no longer is able to open the timer app, the workaround is to use the day 30 button to set up a session and there’s no option for “timeless” mode so you are limited to 30 minutes. Regardless this technique is incredible and I still practice it outside the app daily.

### 5/5 — My most recommended app

*2025-01-23, version 3.5.1*

Of all the apps I recommend this has been my number one! Not only is it a meditation timer it’s a meditation course and although they don’t say it, it’s loosely based on transcendental meditation! The same type that David Lynch used to practice.
