구약에서는 그리스도의 탄생에 앞서 일어난 일들, 다시 말해 천지창조와 아담과 이브, 아브라함과 그의 후손, 모세와 미리암의 여행뿐만 아니라 이스라엘의 왕들 이야기, 예언자 엘리야와 다니엘 등을 이야기하고 있다.
