I would love to find an app or program that will actually teach me how to read and recognise the sounds of everything I’m seeing. I feel like that’s a big part of when I’m missing. ### 1/5 — Scam *2025-07-20* They didn’t honor the 7 days free trail and charge me the full amount. Customer service is completely unresponsive. This is absurd and this company should not be allowed to get away with this! When I downloaded the app to try it out it gave a list of different subscription options that would take place after the free trial. I did not and would not have ever selected one year for an app that I’ve never tried especially for $80! I tried 2x to appeal this decision and was denied. On t’oblige a payer un abonnement sans même avoir pu accéder au contenu. Mais le pire c’est la méthode d’apprentissage qui ne sert à rien. Tu passes plus de temps à lire des mots qu’à t’exprimer à l’oral. I wish I could see the list of words that I have learned within each category. You can see the list of all the words you have learned but all the categories are mixed. Wasn’t happy and was going to cancel the subscription after the 7 day period. Have been unable to find on the app when to unsubscribe. I was charged on the 6th day and did not get any notification about the free trial. There is no manage subscription button in the app to manage or cancel your subscription, the restore purchase glitches the app and loads forever. I tried mailing them twice, no response, I can’t get a refund from the App Store too even though I got scammed. ### 1/5 — Was charged $79.99 for a free trial *2025-05-15, version 1.1.5* I signed up for a free 7 day trial and my card was immediately charged the full amount. Apple wouldn’t refund me and app is terrible as well. And then the speech recognition can’t tell similar words apart. App was slower than others. Was shown transcripts anime on the advert that drew me to download this but it was not in the app. ### 2/5 — Will be good one day *2025-05-05, version 1.1.5* I think this app has the right idea and will be good one day. However, after signing up for the free trial and a discounted first 12 months, the price confirmed by Apple as well as the confirmation page was the full price, no discount. Then there was text on one of the pages in the app that I couldn’t read because the button to continue to the next page obscured it. Finally, when I practiced reading the Japanese words into the microphone, the app said I was pronouncing the words wrong. I’m far from perfect but have studied Japanese for years and have been using Duolingo for a long time, and I believe the speech recognition is too strict/sensitive. I want to learn words not the kanji. It’s too much at this point. ### 1/5 — Not free *2026-01-21, version 1.1.6* Forces you to start a paid subscription that includes a free trial. Bait and switch. Scammy. ### 1/5 — This is not made for Japanese *2026-01-11, version 1.1.6* They immediately throw extremely complicated kanji here. And then asked to combine the kanji like their letters. Kanji is not spelling. ### 1/5 — Don’t waste your time. *2025-12-10, version 1.1.6* Basically you can not use the app if you don’t sign up. You have to get the trial and a plan. You should not download this app unless you want them to take your money. This is a scam posing as a language app, they show you 4 words and then try to copy Duolingo. ### 1/5 — SCAM!! DONT PAY FOR SUBSCRIPTION *2025-08-28, version 1.1.6* I paid for a 1 year subscription which was around £70 only for the app to tell my my subscription has expired after 2 months. No matter what I do it will not let me use the app, I’ve even tried using the “restore purchase” function in the app but each time it tells me I have no valid subscriptions. I’ve checked in my App Store and can see the subscription is still active until 2nd May 2026 yet the app still won’t work. What a waste of £70 and there is no good way of getting in contact support for help. Hopefully they see this review and do something about it because I’d like my money back after this experience. The quality is low in all fields. Inconsistent, garbled, very robotic pronunciation. The speech recognition is trash (it can’t even pick up the ONE word you’re supposed to pronounce sometimes).
