## What is 1000 whales?

The live tracker of Iceland's fin-whale season — and the case, by the numbers.

SEASON — the running count against the 150-whale quota, one mark per whale, and a verified log of every event: kills, welfare findings, politics, the feud on the water. Every entry links to its sources.

THE CASE — the distilled investigation: who owns the hunt, what it earns and loses, how long the whales take to die (government inspection data), what Icelanders think, and the claims we checked and rejected — including some that would have helped the argument.

Put the whale in your street, then photograph it. The shutter gives you two pictures: the frame exactly as you shot it, and a card stamped with the number of fin whales killed off Iceland this season — live, updated the day a whale lands.

The whale also lands faster and holds its true 20 metres more reliably, indoors and out.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-07-23

The AR whale now stands broadside when you place it, so you can take in all 20 metres at once. Small fixes across the season log.

This update keeps the live season count in sync:
• The tally refreshes the moment you open the app
• The home-screen widget updates with it
