  • 90% What I Was Looking For

Firstly, this app is great. I recently got it and I know that this app is definitely getting more usage than VSCO just based on the look and feel. I use this app to fine tune digicam photos and it gets me aesthetic that I want. I’ve tested a few of the film stocks and some of them are gorgeous. However, I did wish the app had a few features that would really elevate the app.

    1) Zoom Feature: I really wish this app had a zoom feature so I could zoom in and see small changes being made such as using grain and clarity. Would be an amazing upgrade.

    2) HSL for Individual Colors: This feature would be amazing. The ability to adjust the Hue, Saturation, and Lightness of specific colors would allow me to fine tune the photos even more so.

    3) Halation: Having this would be a nice feature to have

Although I’ve mentioned 3 things that I wish the app had, I really like the app hence why 5/5 stars. I hope they continue to make improvements upon it!

  • Film grain Pains 😭

OK let me start off by saying that I really like the film simulations, the app has gotten better from last year however there are two major things that hold it back.
    1. When you apply a filter you cannot zoom in the picture to check the grain size and it becomes a huge guessing game when you finalize the picture. This is so essential with any filter app that it’s disappointing that this is not added as a feature yet.

    2. The Film Grain is just one type and color. You can change the intensity and size but it’s lacks and leaves so much room for improvement. For example Capture One Mobile has some grain options that are extremely accurate and you get random grains and feels more real. Carbon App also has different types of film grain that beats out the current state of the app. Film grain on the current app looks too much like high iso, and with so many different film simulations I’m perplex on why this is not available.

I really enjoy this app Ana hope that Zoom and better grain control and options come in feature updates, until then I’ll change my rating to a solid 5*

    Developer Response

Thanks for your insightful review and your appreciation for the progress we’ve made with RNI Films. We are always eager to hear from our users, as your experiences guide our improvements. Addressing your concerns: 1. Please kindly note that RNI Films is a tiny little app designed with mobile shooting and social media use in mind, not an editing powerhouse. It is designed to be super-simple, lightweight and affordable. So, the idea of this app is that, while editing, you see exactly what your followers on social media will see. 2. If you're looking for a pro-grade film emulation, we'd recommend you exploring RNI All Films for Adobe Lightroom or Capture One. The latter, of course, is fully compatible with all of the Capture One's advanced grain models. Lastly, we understand the importance of ratings for this little app’s success and future developments. Positive ratings do help supporting our continuous development efforts and introducing new features indeed. So we hope you’ll consider adjusting your rating according to this app's design intent and purpose, as we take your feedback to heart and work towards making RNI Films an even better tool for the community. Thank you once again for your understanding and support.
  • Video Import

Thank you for continually evolving this app and listening to feedback!!
Currently it’s hard to import video, as the app gives no option to search by “videos” and you have to manually search the camera roll.
Beyond this, photos can be selected in the camera roll, and directly shared with RNI. Videos do not have the option of direct share from camera roll to app.
// A bonus would be to allow multi photo import + perhaps different hierarchy on the save menu, currently the date stamp has a ton of hierarchal focus, but the save button seems like an afterthought, making it sometimes confusing to save.
Thanks for all your work !

  • Finally! A film app that looks like film!

This app is just what I was looking for, an app that offers great looking film emulations at the touch of the screen. Ok, it also offers just about enough tools to fine tune the image’s brightness, contrast, saturation and tone. I could not be happier.

After spending decades using Adobe products, this app really hits the sweet spot of convenience and quality - and the price points are more than fair for a product this good.

I combine this app with Snapseed for when I need to do some heavy lifting - but I find this app really produces some sweet images all by itself.

If the developers are reading this - I have just two requests… add HSL controls to give users just a bit more elbow room when it comes to color grading and add an iOS extension so it can be opened from inside the Photos app.

Otherwise - just keep adding films to your wonderful app.

  • My favorite photo app…however

EDIT: this is by far my most used photo editing tool. I’m glad I purchased the film packs when I did, as I hate subscriptions. However, the 3:2 aspect crop is no longer available, so i have to crop it before bringing it into RNI. Bring back that crop please.

Recent changes were made with the addition of a time stamp. The problem is that the time stamp is always on by default. Any way to fix this, RNI?

  • Fix Adjustment Slider

Please fix the adjustment slider. I am unable to make small adjustments 1 to 5 stops always from 0 on the slider while editing because it always automatically jumps back to 0. This makes grading a bit problematic when I want to make various micro-adjustments.

Besides that however RNI Films is a lovely mobile app. Easy to use with high-quality filters and effects.

  • Awesome save for 1 thing…

I love this app, but the only issue i’ve encountered over the years is how the intensity of certain edits doesn’t stay where you place it. If I want +5 contrast, or -1 brightness, it would be nice if it stayed there. But for some reason it doesn’t; for example, I just tried to set a +5 contrast, but it automatically sets it to 0. If I do +6, it stays, but not for 5. I never understood why, & this would be a 5 star app IMO if the devs could fix this (relatively small) issue.

  • Pro was paid for but isn’t unlocked

Update: Things are back to normal! It took a couple days before Pro features came back. The biggest issue was trying to access the pro through the buy option. It would stall then have some issue. But we’re all good! Seriously love the is app, however as of last night all the Pro features have been locked. I’ve been subscribed for the past couple months and have had zero issues up until this point. Hope this issue can get fixed soon!

Could you please try "Restore my purchases" from the app's menu and let us know if the issue still persists?
  • I live this app but..

I went to set it up for my daughter in her phone and it only gives me the option to Sign In with Apple ID. She is under my Apple family and it gives me the message that she cannot use her Apple ID to create a new account. And the app doesn’t give me any other options to sign in and use it. Extremely frustrating. She just cannot use it at all. Please change this. Once fixed I will change to 5 stars. The only other thing about the app is it would be nice to be able to save photo edit as projects so I can return to them and see what I did or make changes. RNI you have the other app for the whole one time thing. Which is cool but this one specifically should have projects to save and come back to.

  • Yes yes yes

If you’re searching for REAL film looks, this is it. I also just opened it and edited a photo to find that I can essentially save my edit/preset, which has long been a gripe with this app. Now that they’ve added that capability, I’ll be using it a lot more since I don’t have to scroll through all the filter options (there are a lot) and remember what I liked. If you’re a pro photographer, the Lightroom presets are beautiful as well!
