  • Handy app

This is rare. I don’t often review apps. Since the whole covid lockdowns, my whole approach to working out has changed. I use to be I guess a “gym bro”. Then I was forced to workout at home and try new things. Anyway I got the old mountain bike out and returned to my roots of downhill and free riding. I quickly lost interest in the gym. Over the years since I tried a few things to get back in the gym but it just didn’t interest me the same. One of my riding mates recommended this for the winter, I gave it a try. Though the gym still doesn’t have the enjoyment of racing downhill, I’ve now come to not mind it. I just follow what workouts it has for me and away I go. I can’t be bothered with planning workouts anymore. Just in the doors, smash a workout and out! Though the muscle freshness is a bit of a gimic, it is slightly handy to get a rough idea of how fatigued they may be. Everyone is different.
Overall it’s getting me back on track in the gym and aiding my performance in the bike. Give it a go. May not be for everyone but it’s like a personal trainer in your pocket.

  • Freezing

It keeps freezing and I can’t click on the workouts or anything. Have had to delete and reinstall multiple times. Annoying.

Sorry for the trouble. Could you please send us a crash report to support@fitbod.me? We would like to address this as soon as possible.
  • Personal trainer in your pocket

This app is game changing. I've used workout tracking apps in the past but none of them are like this. I've been using Fitbod for over 2 years now and I couldn't go without it. Let's face it, when we have to think of our own routines, we do the same exercises that we like. With fitbod, it takes the thinking out of the routine design - every workout is unique and it knows what muscles are in recovery and which weights to push you to next, as well as timed workouts so you know how long to rest. You can create multiple gyms so you can remove any equipment that's not available at each location or any exercises you don't want to do. It also has a great Apple Watch app that is quite powerful, allowing you to preview the exercise movement right from your wrist. Also, also, also..! 😆 Worth the subscription price. Get it.

  • Really good app but one thing stopping me from loving it

Used this app for about three months now and found it really useful for splitting workouts up and introduced me to lots of new movements, but unfortunately cancelled as I found it to not do exactly what I wanted it to do.

It may go against the point of the app but it would have been handy to set your workout parameters (duration, target muscles etc) and be able to the generate different workouts based on this via the tap of a button? I regularly found a routine of exercises it made for me that I didn’t want to do and would rather do my routine with different equipment and movements, and there wasn’t a way to generate a new workout until I found one that I was happy with.

I know the point of the app is to follow what it says but I just constantly found me swapping exercises out, and I didn’t want to stop these exercises being recommended all together.

Hard to explain and it may be me just being daft but for nearly £12 a month I would rather it be able to generate similar exercises without me having to manually do it, where the app’s selling point is that it does this for you?

If a button could be made to generate similar workouts and without resetting parameters then I would consider subscribing again, but I find myself doing most of the manual work here. Again may be my own fault here!

  • Review from an Exercise Scientist

As an exercise scientist myself, I have found this app one of the most useful and cost effective tools for exercise programming in the market. I have researched and used many tools, and Fitbod really hits the mark with its ability to not only program the exercises for you, but also track progress over time. The ability to customise programming based on number of days, type of exercises, type of equipment used, etc., means the app is truly customisable to almost anybody. Recommended for people of all abilities to give it a go and see the difference. Keep doing what you are doing Fitbod team!

  • Good, not great

I gave the app a try on the free side and I gotta give it a mixed review. Part of me wants to use it and a part of me finds it pointless. It’s a decent app for tracking workouts, but the workouts provided aren’t all that. There’s a weird superset fetish with the app that makes it really annoying to even make your own routine. My favorite part has to be the soreness tracking, but it’s a bit redundant if you have a solid workout plan already. I think if you’re getting into fitness, it might be good enough to get you comfortable at the gym and with working out. However, if you’re an intermediate or advanced lifter, this app is pretty much replaceable with the notes app and a stopwatch. Also worth mentioning the rest timer is beyond annoying with its increments of time. Exercises like calf raises don’t require a lot rest time and the options there are odd numbers (going up from 15 seconds by increments of 10 so you can’t even select 30 seconds).

I have to give it a 5.5/10 considering it’s a decent way to track soreness and get into fitness, but is also a bit redundant and easily replaceable. It’s also under $7 a month so it’s not egregiously priced if you follow the workout plans provided. However, if you’re sticking to a consistent routine for 3 months (which is what I do) then it’s a bit useless. You can buy better workout plans for cheaper and replace all the other functions easily. However, there is merit to it, just not for me.

Thanks for the review! Regarding supersets, they are enabled by default but can be disabled from your Gym Profile settings if preferred. There is so much insight here that you have provided, and we are so thankful you took the time to share. Each point will be deeply considered for future releases.
  • This app is fantastic

This is the first review I have written for an app, but it is so good I felt I have to.
I’ve always done a lot of cardio (run, cycle, swim) but about 9 months ago I felt that as a 50 year old woman I should be doing more strength exercise. I have been going to the gym but although I see some change I was doing the same thing a lot and struggled to move forward.
However the Fitbod app has changed all of that, it’s provided me with a real purpose and helped me feel much more confident with free weights. It’s shown me exercises I didn’t know and is personalised so knows what you have done and how to increase it. It has helped me feel that I’m working every muscle group and is never repetitive and I’m noticing the difference already.
Absolutely worth the money and way cheaper than a PT.
    😊

  • Best app for weightlifting

I do weight training from a fairly well equipped home gym and find this app the best for putting together workouts based on the equipment I have. It’s a quick and easy process too. I like that you can specify the desired length of the workout and can opt out of body weight exercises being included into the workouts generated (I find these really boring personally). I also like the various options available for warms ups, cool downs and cardio.

Also, the catalog of exercises is impressive. There have been some that I have not come accross before which I have ended up loving.

The app is the best I have tried so far. My only suggestions (not complaints) would be the option to specify which weight plates you have available in your home gym, the same way you are able to specify the dumbbells you have.

Also, it would be cool if more landmine exercises could be added into the catalog of available exercises as well as the option to create fixed programs.

    Great app. Thank you!

  • Not good for beginners lifters

I have used this app for almost two months now. It has great number of workouts. It gives you freedom of choosing your workout style, let you select your body parts, let you change the workout reps and time.

However, when it comes to generating a workout, the apps gives workout in really poor order. For example, if I select back and biceps workout, the app would ask me perform few biceps exercises first which is not ideal because if my small muscle bicep is tired how I am supposed to lift heavy for my back training. Same goes chest and triceps. Sometimes asking me to perform bench press on 8th exercise when my muscles are super tired. I understand the app lets you change the exercises but the whole point of me spending the money was to get rid of thinking my workouts. I have not a trained a single day without changing my workout.

  • Great functionality

Great app! Has everything I need. Can customise depending on what you’re after (strength training, HIIT, bodybuilding etc.) can choose whether you want intervals or straight sets. Can add what equipment you have and it will customise workouts using only that equipment. Can swap out exercises easily and gives the option for good swaps. Tracks the weight you’re using so you can track your strength. Has an optional timer function which beeps when the next set is up (and customisable to what length you want). Also sends reminders with what your workout will be for that day which keeps me accountable.
