Garbage.
I remember looking at the app in Apple Store and thinking “why would they place it on their demo units?”. I even asked the store associate if it’s possible to delete the app from the phone before committing to buying one.
Anyway, the main issues are stupid algorithms (the “news” that are selected for the front page have no value and mainly just show biz garbage that nobody outside of a small California bubble cares about), very biased political views (to the point where it can be labeled as propaganda, basically - if you live in the western country, Apple will show you news only from one political aisle, guess which one) and also ads (this is quite hilarious - according to other reviews here, ads remain present even if you choose to subscribe to paid version of the app).
Final verdict? Garbage. Unlike other bad apps Apple have made for iPhone, this one is bad both in execution, and the concept. Maybe these are the kind of news Tim Cook is reading before sleep, but that doesn’t mean they should be forced on us, adequate people.Show lesspvkom26

Shifting Stories as you read
PLEASE can you not push article changes over the article a user is reading. I could understand being able to “drag down” to refresh the feed - but to supplant an article that is being read seems perfectly counter to the purpose of the app. It is as useless as having a calculator app that moves from trig functions to calculus part way through typing in your equation!Show lessSprSal
Wasted potential
Has the potential to be amazing, but it’s useless for my needs as it is. I just want to curate a feed of the things I’m interested in, but instead of showing me a feed of all the things I’m following, and none of the things I’ve blocked, there is no feed that shows a mix of the things I’ve specified that I want to see, and the main feed just shows the headlines and black images of all the things I’ve blocked. If I block them all why would I still want to see them all and read the headlines. News plus magazines seem to be dominated by adverts too, that are slow to load and spoil the reading experience. Please sort this out and it could rival some of the most popular ways of consuming media.Show lessthe truthspeaker
Ads and non-free content even if you pay a subscription
Even with a paid subscription, there are still MANY ads in Apple News+ it seems like every second page is a full page advertisement. Furthermore, the selection of available newspapers are NOT free to read - When you open the articles to read, the publisher indicates that a separate subscription is required. Buggy - refreshes and changes stories while reading
Unusable unfortunately, a rare miss for Apple. Was a paid subscription member but since maybe January 2024 it’s unusable. I get half way through reading an article and it just changes articles for no reason and the old article is completely gone so you can’t even find it again. It’s not just overly sensitive to screen contact as it’s done it on the table with me not even touching it.
Had to cancel my subscription. Apple- fix it please, lots of others are having this issue. Very poor quality control.Show lessJason Goodridge
Page reloads when in middle of article
Update: another week, another dozen times that I tried reading the news and simply can’t because the page refreshes to another article.
The page keeps reloading and brings be to another random article, or to the Home Screen, while I’m in the middle of an article. A quick google search shows this has been an issue for YEARS - how has this not been fixed?! Highly annoying and makes the app unusable.Show lessNkd1989

Give Honor where Honor is due.
This story gets a swift 5 stars review from Roxann Henagan for the simple fact it’s way over due for the powers that be to honor the exceptional work that Biden has put in since his dear ole’ dad. Ross Perot went independent if you guys can remember. Well it was around the same time Biden served for decades the American people and advisor to both Democrats and Republican before even becoming Vice-President to 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. So swiftly and finally our current Biden/Harris Administration was honored by clearing 46 President of the United States of any wrong doing. Never thought I would see this day of justice prevailing for someone that worked and loss so much due to hate. However their is Hope now to Heal. Now that’s justice moving in the right direction during these dire times. We did it, you did it and justice finally did it for us all. “You should never be hated on for doing the right thing.” So I’m sure the Judicial Department will be getting their share of hate mail for doing the right thing.
