### 5/5 — Must have for JP study

*2023-08-13*

Basically rikaikun for iOS. Makes studying using regular websites a breeze. Working towards N1 and I use it every day.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2023-06-22*

Fantastic browser extension, works great. If you added some kind of Anki integration, I'd happily pay for a subscription.

### 5/5 — Like Yomichan - but for iOS

*2023-06-10, version 1.14.1*

I love using this extension. It is super practical for reading eBooks and websites in Safari. No import needed - just use the browser :)
I wish the golden circle was a bit smaller though - it is a distracting when reading.

### 5/5 — Amazing!!!

*2022-12-02*

I will be using this all the time now bwhehehe :D

### 5/5 — Amazing tool for immersing & learning the language

*2022-04-29*

Thanks for making this app! I use it to translate light novels/ songs/ tweets and whatever else I browse in Japanese to learn. As someone who doesn’t have a laptop, this app lets me immerse into Japanese material when I’m not at my desktop and it’s perfect for it. The only thing that could make it better is integration with Anki in order to be able to easily make cards from the new words I encounter. I know its already possible by copying and pasting the information but auto-filling anki fields with the word/reading/definition would be cool (however I am not sure how possible that is to implement on iOS)

### 5/5 — Superb!

*2022-02-08, version 1.7.0*

Really useful app as it gives you an instant pop-up window showing the meaning of a single kanji or combination of kanji in several different forms such as dictionary form, names, etc. All that by just rolling your cursor over the Kanji!
Well done and thank you to the developer, Birchall.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2021-09-26, version 1.4.2*

It has taken years and many unsatisfying attempts to create a functional hover-over lookup app for iOS. This one has finally done it to great success. Thank you for making it and thank you for distributing it for free.

### 5/5 — A must-have for reading native materials

*2021-09-24, version 1.4.2*

This extension finally brings an efficient Japanese dictionary to Safari. No more wrestling to select text, no more failed lookups on inflected forms, and above all: seriously quick lookup.

Thanks to this, I can finally read web novels productively and find my way around any website. Looking forward to seeing it evolve in future!

### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2021-09-23, version 1.4.0*

A brilliant extension for Safari that deserves to be praised. Thank you for bringing « 10ten » to ios devices.

### 5/5 — Awesome UX

*2021-09-23, version 1.4.0*

You've created a very creative way to hover and lookup words. Thank you very much for creating this useful extension

### 5/5 — これはマジで神アプリ！

*2021-09-22*

I’ve wanted rikaikun on iOS for so long. When they announced safari extensions it was the first thing that came to mind. I never would have expected it to be this polished on day 1, though! Please consider adding EPWING importing 🙏

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Freezes

*2023-12-08, version 1.17.0*

Used to be great, but now it frequently freezes the browser tab, so you have to close the tab and give up.

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2023-02-10*

Doesn't translate anything.

Installed it an activated it with ctrl cmd R as indicated. Used my mouse to hover over japanese words and nothing happened. I selected words with my mouse and nothing happened. I right click to Translate the selection and all that happens is that it activates Apple's native translation system.

### 1/5 — extension not installing

*2021-07-22, version 1.0*

When I install on my mac, it doesnt appear in the extension preferences, why is this?

### 2/5 — Unbrauchbar wegen “privacy feature”

*2025-08-17, version 1.25.1*

Man muss, jedes mal wenn man einen neuen tab öffnet, die extension über den kleinen Knopf in der extension Bar aktivieren. Grund ist, dass die Entwickler das als “Privacy feature” sehen und nicht wollen, dass 10ten reader auf alle Seiten zugreifen kann. Das Resultat ist eine unbrauchbare Browser Extension, ohne jegliche Möglichkeit das ganze zu ändern.

### 3/5 — Used to work

*2025-12-14, version 1.26.0*

The latest update has made the puck(circle) permanently on “left handed” mode without it adjusting itself to be usable based on screen location nor is it be able to switch modes(double tap).

Not only that, it’s been unable to update the dictionaries, completely removing my ability to use the tabs since mid-June.

If these two issues can be resolved, it’s an easy five star tool which simplifies the process of finding the meaning of each character.

### 3/5 — Ganz gut

*2024-06-14, version 1.19.1*

Eigentlich ein perfektes Tool, aber in Safari schaltet sich die Erweiterung immer von selbst aus, wenn die Seite neu geladen wird. So muss man es immer wieder das Icon in der Symbolleiste klicken, um anschließend ein Wort nachschlagen zu können.

### 4/5 — Great tool, but one major pain point

*2026-03-29, version 1.26.1*

The tool works really well for looking up words online. The one thing that really keeps it from being amazing is that for every new tab or refresh you have to constantly re-enable it.

### 4/5 — Love this extension

*2025-02-02, version 1.23.0*

The only thing missing (for me personally) is the ability to use it on sites on the reading list offline.

### 4/5 — Great but a suggestion

*2024-10-21*

This is great but i would like if i could have the extension enabled at all times. Everytime i go to a different website or reload a page the extension gets disabled and i have to go reenable it. It would be more convenient to have an option to enable it at all times.

### 4/5 — Almost perfect but lacking one important feature on safari

*2021-10-03, version 1.4.3*

Really love the extension! I used its elder iteration rikaichamp for a long time now.

I just wish I could make the pop up appear with a key press like I could before ; Right now the extension settings tell me: "You can't change the on/off key on your current browser", a shame...

So I will continue to use rikaichamp until that the on/off by keypress feature is made available on safari.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2026-01-08, version 1.26.1*

Works very well

### 5/5 — Great extension overall

*2026-01-07, version 1.26.1*

This extension is so good I have it on all of my devices.
That being said when I use it with the Safari browser on my Ipad I have to reactivate it everytime I want to use it by taping the small puzzle piece in the search bar, even when opening a new tab. This despite being always activated in the "manage extensions" browser settings.

### 5/5 — Indispensable

*2025-12-11*

Best tool for Japanese lookups on mobile. I’m able to read a LOT more and practice on the go thanks to this.

### 5/5 — Fantastic add-on

*2025-08-21, version 1.25.1*

Vastly superior to Yomitan – the interface is attractively designed and the information clearly organised so you can see at a glance what you are looking for. The only possible improvement would be Anki integration, which I gather the developer is working on; for now, you can copy the definitions as a tab-separated entry to paste into a text file, which works well. 頑張って！

### 5/5 — Erfüllt seinen Zweck

*2025-03-13, version 1.23.0*

10ten ist zwar nicht so flexibel wie z.B. Yomitan, erfüllt aber seinen Zweck wirklich gut. Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit der User Experience. Wörter lassen sich ganz bequem und blitzschnell durch antippen oder ziehen des Kreises nachschlagen. Das ist schon alles, was ich zum Lesen brauche!

### 5/5 — Love this!

*2025-02-16*

This is a fantastic resource for reading Japanese. I love the extra option to show WK level. Thank you for your work on this extension!

### 5/5 — Great help!

*2024-07-26, version 1.20.0*

Extremely helpful with reading and studying online resources in Japanese. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Seriously one of the best!

*2024-04-18*

I love 10ten, and have been using it for a few years now. It seriously makes reading in Japanese a much more fluid experience. I really like that we can now see if a word is in a particular JLPT level, as well as the star that indicates how common a word is.

Keep up the great work!

### 5/5 — How to add a other dictionary, because I want to use a J-J dictionary

*2024-02-24*

i really thanky for it！

### 5/5 — Legendary

*2023-10-28*

Long time yomichan user but always despaired I could only use it on my desktop. Friend let me know about this and it is a huuuuge help. Every Japanese learner needs this.
