  • A MUST have app for DMs

This is an amazing app. It is my go to for just about all of my DM planning, and while running the games. It took me a little bit to learn how the app worked when I first got it, but when I figured it out I ran with it. Other reviewers cover all details as to what features the app has, so I won’t waste time repeating what they say. I will say this though, this app makes planning and running my games massively easier. Before I did everything with a notepad and a calculator, and it slowed the process down. Now the sessions and encounters move quicker, and run much smoother.
There are a couple of ways that I can see the app being improved upon though. There being some sort of guide to tell you how to work the basic functions of the app, the list of creatures to be updated instead of having to manually enter them in yourself, and be able to fill out PC stats like you would do with creatures.
This all being said I absolutely LOVE this app and I can’t stop recommending it to others who also run games.

  • Fantastic and Improving

This app is on its way to being a complete fulfillment of a DM / GM’s dream. Not only does it serve as a battle companion in that it tracks initiative, damage and the like, but it’s also an incredibly convenient way to keep track of your player’s information and abilities as well. The compendium is super convenient, and the airplay feature is a thing of beauty. I can only imagine what it’s going to be like in the future as the developer (who clearly loves and understands the game) continues to polish it and make it even better.

In short: I use both DND Beyond and this app. If I had to choose only one, I’d choose Encounter+.

  • Must have for any DM or Player!

I came across this app and decided to check it out. After messing around a bit I got the hang of it pretty quickly. There is so much you can do with it! In my sessions I’m currently a player but I help keep track of initiative and I love the way it makes quick reference cards for each character! I did buy the spells and it was worth it! Had a small hiccup when I did but a quick email to the designer and it was corrected in less then 24 hours! I have convinced my DM to get this as well because he has been looking for something similar for a long time.

  • Magnificent! I have a request

This 100% the best DM tool I’ve used to date. I tried quite a few but once I got Encounter this one hasn’t left my home screen. The ease of editing or making variant creatures is perfect. The inclusion of detailed spell support is great. The pleasing UI makes me fiddle with it even when I’m at my game. The one and only thing I would like to see is slightly expanded character sheets, to add things like abilities, their attack and special actions. Otherwise this is a perfect product. Amazing!

  • A DM's best friend.

I used to use a few different apps to DM sessions, and this has replaced everything but a dungeon mapping app. It's incredible, and the flexibility with the compendium means it can grow to suit your game. The in-app purchases are both totally worth it and have added a lot to my games.

The spell support is so easy to use, I can have any spell in front of me in a few seconds. And the second screen support, holy cow. It's awesome. It's worth buying an Apple TV if you don't have one. Encounter tracking, handouts, scene setting, all of it super intuitive and customizable.

The dev is constantly updating and adding features. Like, seriously, if you DM this is the app for you. I've tried them all, and this is the only one I still use.

  • Great but could be better.

I like using this app to track turns in encounters, as a DM. I would like if it were updated to include options to track carried weight. Traits and features as a list similar to spells. Ability to modify AC by equipment list. List of common weapons and armor. Also known languages. Proficiency bonus based on level. Inspiration bonus. Proficient skills. Weapon attacks based on equipment. Experience tracking and splitting based on party and combat. Spell slot tracking based on class and level. Advantage and disadvantage rolls based on equipment and conditions. In total, complete character sheet tracking to verify all abilities and spells without having to ask for the character sheets and players handbook to lookup what abilities do.

  • Best Battle Manager

Automatic order tracking, easy to add custom NPCs/Monsters/characters, even add photos!

I use this module to set up battles ahead of the session. Even when the party changes my plans: i can easily create a new battle order in just a moment. I have added the characters stats to the battle so i can secretly make rolls for them without them knowing. I can even keep track of their HP in addition to the enemies/NPCs
After a using the program for a bit I decided to buy the spells. The spell allow you to click on their name to bring up the spell details, even on custom additions, which saves lot of time looking up spells.
If your looking for a replacement for your paper notebook, this is a simple and quick alternative. The one note of improvement is it took a few minutes to understand how the programmed worked. Once I did it works beautifully, but it was a little confusing at first.

  • Great tool for DMs

This is great, I’ve tried a few different initiatives trackers but this one is the best. There are a few things I believe are missing that could greatly improved this app.
    1) Additional player stats. I think that adding saving throws and skills would be useful for plannings future sessions when determining DCs and what creatures to fight.
    2) Complete monster manual. I’ve noticed that there are some creatures in the manual that aren’t in this app. This can be harmful when running an impromptu one shot.
    3) Healing in battle. Whether due to a potion or spell it should be easy to add HP to a creature without having to exit encounter and manually change health. Also better explain “heal” and “damage” conditions.

  • Easy to use at the table

Very easy to use, pre-populated with many monsters and super easy to enter custom stat blocks. This is the best encounter manager to run live at the table. All the configurations are intuitive, very quick to edit or generate encounters on the fly. I also appreciate the detail put into displaying the stat blocks, how they are designed to look like they are in one of the print books.

Recommend buying the spell add in to support the developer.

  • Highly Recommend

I've been in the market for a good app to use for D&D for a while. Unhappy with what I found, I stopped looking. I stumbled on this by accident and decided to try it out.
This is by far the best app I've found. Initiative tracker is great and adding monsters into the fight is flawless.
One of my main selling points on this app is the search function on monsters AND items- and the filters that can be applied.
The one suggestion I have (and this is very minor) is with the health tracking system; adding health needs a negative sign next to it. Took me all of 5 seconds to figure out but looks a hit backwards at first glance.
I am contemplating getting the spells unlocked, as players of mine never know what their spells do. When you have the chance could you tell me what is in the spell section? I saw a review that said there were spells missing; I would just like to know.
    Thanks for an awesome app!!
