  • Clever ideas marred by major design flaws

I really want to like this game. I love everything about the setting and overall tone, and the combat system has some interestingly original design elements that make it fun to explore. However the game is made unplayable for me by a couple of glaring design flaws, the big one being the level cap on dungeons. Your squad needs to be at the top of their level bracket to have any chance of success, but if one character accidentally levels up then they are excluded from the mission and you need to train up a whole new character to replace them. This becomes tedious very quickly.

  • Save issue

There’s an issue where your saves get wiped, tried all the fixes. None of them work. No option to save the game so no way to progress.
  • Needs update for ipad pro 4th Gen

Aspect ratio is poor for ipad, definitely due for an update or take it off the appstore please.
  • Pretty good port!

Just a good port of the original game, though (as the game title suggests) this game is only really good on tablet. I cannot fathom how hard it must be to play this on phone.

Wane June and Stewart Chatwood are amazing.

    Cheers.
  • Great game, No Longer Works!

I have had this game plus all the DLC since it was available and up until latest iOS release it worked perfectly. However, it now will not work at all, tried deleting and reinstalling but will not get get passed the start screen when you select the envelope to start a new game. I have contacted the Developers on 3 occasions and still no response!

A great game but no longer playable:

  • Great game bad port

Don’t buy except if you intend of playing with a controller. The touch selection is clunky and makes you take wrong decision in a game that is all about making the best decision possible. Awful.
  • Controls Are Sloppy

It’s a great game, no doubt.

The controls are poorly thought out and result in wrong choices constantly. It is already a difficult and unforgiving game without this added problem.

Fix the controls to double taps or have a confirmation window, or choice between. Long press does not work well for this game.

  • An awesome miserable experience

This turn-based strategy game will keep testing your limits: your favorite characters will eventually die and you’ll need to rely on petty kleptomaniacs to get through the dungeons.

But the game’s atmosphere is second to none, the art style is amazing, the music never gets old and the narrator keeps pushing you to move forward.

I keep coming back to this game because even though I’ll never finish it (the end game is a grind, unfortunately), the overall experience is fun as hell and I love it dearly. But beware: this game is meant to be difficult and somewhat unfair. It’s up to you to find a way to get through this hellhole with your flawed team of mercenaries and low lives.

  • Tablet Edition is extremely clunky

First off I want to say Darkest Dungeon is a fantastic game. Everything from the atmosphere to story, voice acting is astounding.

That being said “Tablet Edition” is a very clunky port, definitely unpolished with finicky touch controls and curiously enough I’ve had a menu screen crash within 2 hours of playing despite quite a few years of bug fixes.

I would say it deserves 3 stars as it is playable however I feel that the developer has metaphorically spat in the face of loyal fans by grossly overcharging for the lack of quality of this port.

I will not be buying the DLC at these prices either, wait for sale I guess as I doubt Red Hook Studios will lower their prices to fit this iffy port. Poor business practices.

  • Best iPad game

this is the best game for iPad hands down. No annoying microtransactions. I haven’t bought the dlc yet but I definitely will. There are a few quality of life improvements that could be made. The home bar at the bottom could vanish like other apps and sometimes the audio cuts out until a restart.
