## What is 12 Chess?

Chess, cut down to twelve squares.

12 Chess is a three-minute duel on a 3x4 board. Every piece is in range from the first move, so there is no opening theory to memorise and no dead middlegame — just a fight from move one.

THE RULE THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING
Capture a piece and it becomes yours. Drop it back onto any empty square and it fights for you. Nothing ever leaves the board, so a piece you lose is a weapon you just handed your opponent.

HOW YOU WIN
Take the enemy king, or walk your own king into their back rank and survive a turn. Push a pawn to the far side and it promotes.

WAYS TO PLAY
- Ranked online matches against real players, on a live global ladder
- Private rooms: share a code and play a friend
- Three AI levels, offline, and you pick your seat — move first, move second, or let it be drawn

A note on what this is: not standard chess. It is a small perfect-information variant with drops, closer to shogi than to an eight-by-eight game. That is exactly why a match takes three minutes and still hurts to lose.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-09-07

Fixed a "win" that arrived the moment a match was found. An opponent who leaves before sitting down no longer counts as a game — you go straight back to the queue.

Fixed friend rematches never connecting after a game.

The matching screen now lists every way a game ends: capture the king, reach the far row with your king and survive a turn, or outlast the opponent's clock. The same position three times is a draw.

온라인 대전을 손봤습니다.

선후공은 재대국마다 다시 뽑습니다. 이기는 자리를 번갈아 먹을 수 없습니다. 시간은 각자 2분에서 3분으로 늘렸고, 매칭 화면에 규칙을 적어뒀습니다. 시계가 있는 줄 모르고 시간패하는 분이 많았습니다.

상대가 없으면 여전히 AI와 시작하지만, 이제 그 사실을 화면에 알리고 사람을 계속 찾습니다. 먼저 잡히는 사람에게 판을 넘깁니다.

랭킹에는 온라인 전적이 있는 사람만 올라갑니다. 닉네임은 자동 배정 대신 첫 실행 때 직접 정합니다.
