As a bird lover, I never heard of any bird called “Huia bird”, so I thought this would be a nice made up story that would teach my 5 year old to care for birds. As soon as I go to the field guide I noticed it was a real, but extinct, bird. I have no complaints. Reading the fact sheet at the end just made me so so sad, actually I cried, there was so much greed that drove a friendly, beautiful and curious bird to extinction. Humans and pest animals hunted these amazing creatures, and now there are none. People just cared for money first and foremost. It’s beautifully written and every kiwi NEEDS to read this.
