$20 for an app...

I read the reviews and I was impressed with the auto-formatting. I liked the look of the interface and the simplicity of use. So I purchased Slugline.

I spent a day working on my first piece with the app, and then the $20 app eliminated it. Just like that. Gone. I’ll go back to using a typewriter...thank you for wasting my time.

Great promises, all undelivered with instability.

I cannot recommend this app. I want to, the features are excellent. The philosophy and values behind it are excellent. But it just doesn’t work.

I contacted Slugline about stability issues with their first release. Stability was such an issue when using it for several days it would crash 3 or 4 times within 2 hours of use. That said, I stressed I’d stick around to try it out after their next update.

Next update is in and it’s crashed several times yet again. I’ve used different files to test if they were corrupted, as well as another iPad to see if it was a software issue on the device. Still crashes. I am beginning to wonder how anyone is have good experiences with this app. I can only assume most users are writing 10 page scripts or writing for 3 minute sessions. Or everyone has iPad Pros. I have the 2017 iPad which shouldn’t have any issues with a text editor.

Save yourself the $19.99, a higher end to middle tier price for an iOS app. The app is just too expensive considering the simplicity of features and it dealing with the most efficient file type to work with (.TXT !). It’s somehow unstable.

Support for Highland 2

Not only a great writing environment on iOS and macOS, but supports editing Highland 2 TextBundle docs? Love it!

Brilliant. Don’t use another screenwriting app

Update - still crashing every ten minutes (on iPhone X)

Fountain is the best, simplest, most cross-platform approach to screenwriting, and Slugline takes things to another level. It’s simple, minimal and lets you get in with thinking creatively.

All it’s missing, for me, is a means to rearrange scenes in the outline mode (essential!) and a search box in the documents picker.

Response from developer

Hi zennington, Thanks for the kind words! We're very sorry for the crashing. We just posted an update (1.1.1) to fix exactly the kinds of issues you were experiencing, and so far we haven't had any crash reports from that version. Please let us know through the support link above if you have any issues after updating!

Best screenwriting app for iOS

I've tried a lot of iOS screenwriting apps and this is truly the best by a mile. For me, the only thing keeping it from being *perfect* is integration with the iOS 11 Files app; if that replaced the current document browser I'd be in heaven.

Not so much

I write episodic television and have been wanting to find an app that works well while I’m traveling and need to write. I found this one and thought I would give it a try. Although it seemed to be a good fit at first, I have come to loathe this app. Nearly every five minutes or so, it will close down, deleting the last paragraph or two of what has been written. Not only is it frustrating because I have to go back and rewrite what I just wrote, but it absolutely destroys the flow of writing, taking me out of the moment I was creating and forcing me to push refresh on the mental process, trying to get back into that moment. Not to mention it has no memory recall, so you have to fully write out every character name every time you use it, as opposed to it recalling the name after the first character or two like most other scriptwriting programs.

not a fan.

Hi justinhunt, thanks for taking the time to write a review. Crashing and losing work is the very last thing we want. Frequent crashes like the ones you’re experiencing are rare, but they are happening, and we are working on a fix for our next update.

The best way to work in fountain

A wonderful app for everything from quickly capturing scenes on the go and building outlines to reading and editing feature length scripts. I am very sold on the concept of formatting using fountain in plain text and Slugline on both Mac and iOS is the best way to work this way I’ve found. I would like better organization for the iCloud storage screen, namely folders, but otherwise it’s a near perfect screenwriting tool.

Thank you

It means a lot.

LOVE IT! But......

Love this app however I’m not sure if anyone else has been experiencing trouble when back spacing. When I hold the back space button for a while it stops and the screen jitters a bit. Also Auto correct can sometimes crash my app, this may just be me and I need to reinstall but if someone can look into this that would be awesome!

A bit buggy...

My favourite mac app but as yet not quite there on IOS. Updating of work cannot be trusted... On one of these occasions the app crashed I used ‘fn delete’ (Logitech keyboard) to forward delete and bang that was it and the whole thing crashed. I won’t trust it for a while.
