  • My Learned Friend

I have been following the New York Review of Books for over forty years. In that time, the NYRB has provided me with windows to countless worlds.
As a Foreign Service Officer, I recommended the NYRB to those who wanted the breadth of knowledge needed both to pass the entrance exam and to serve in postings ranging from consular work in Pakistan to negotiations on Kosovo independence.
Without the NYRB, I would feel less prepared to meet the intellectual challenges of a career in the Foreign Service.

  • Top Notch

The NYR is a cut above in the variety of articles and the writing. Every issue has intriguing subjects.
  • My best subscription

I could do without some of the publications I subscribe to but not NYRB. And the app gives me access anytime anywhere.
  • App needs a real table of contents

Please fix the app so it displays a useful table of contents. Headlines without bylines is surely a disservice to your writers as well as your readers.
  • but, where are the reviewers’ bios?

the content is of course great.

and, the aesthetics of reading in this app are much better than they were years ago, pleasureable even.

but, it would be nice to have the short bios of the reviewers (that show up online and in the print edition) available at the top or bottom of each article.

    cheers!

  • How bad can an app be?

I am a subscriber but it takes several tries to learn that my existing login/pass does not work.
There is no explanation of this.
    Why would it not work?
Why would they build the app assuming that existing subscribers are a minority of users?
Does offline mode work well? No
  • Long may it wave

The NYRB has been a mainstay of culture and intellect in the US for nearly 60 years.
  • Great writing, garbage app.

The app is garbage. The NYR should change developers. You can’t retrieve a password that was created on another device. “Sorry, but something went wrong.” That’s the notice you get no matter how many times or methods you try. Come on. It’s 2021. This isn’t hard.
  • Unable to adjust text size

The content is great but it’s difficult to read long articles in small text size. The ability too adjust text size is a bread-and-butter feature in most apps and it shouldn’t be this hard to make it happen.
  • Love NYRB, great app

The app is functional and beautiful. Displays all that’s needed in easy-to-find ways. Love the PDF function, as a teacher who annotates.
