Pretty good

This works pretty good and is easy to set up but could use an adjustment to correct for the sound delay with Bluetooth headphones

Super effective

I’ve got (audiologist-measured) 80% loss in the right and 40% degradation in the left, and basically I will try anything that says it will “help” my hearing.

At first, I was confused by the simplicity of the interface. What was it meant to do? Was it doing anything? Oh, ok, turn it up a bit with *that* slider, and there it is - noticeable amplification of the primary noise (a human), and no amp on background noise. It appears, this app simply just works. Full score.

However, like a previous reviewer, lacking the ability to tell the app that you are unable to hear a frequency during the calibration test reduces its accuracy. A second point on the calibration would be to allow a pause between tones. Press “start”, have the first tone run until “I can hear it”, then pause until “Start” is pressed again. I found the calibration inaccurate because I wasn’t able to press the “I can hear it” button fast enough as is, with one tone running into the next.

As a fun aside, it’s a giggle placing your phone on your belly while your tummy rumbles; and I can guarantee my iPhone’s microphone is sensitive - amplifying my heartbeat nicely into my headphones. So the app is fun, as well as useful.

Lost in setup

Doesn’t progress past the hearing test (should it?) “Back” just backs out of the screens to the start, where you can skip or perform the hearing test.

Skipping the hearing test, it keeps beeping, and says “connect your headphones”, which were already connected, and still beeping. (Bose QC35)

Update 2019 September

The hearing test seems to be a twitch test. After the first tone, I could hear all of the tones immediately. Something in the pipeline isn’t going quiet enough, or can’t. So it’s how fast can you click the “I can hear it” button.

I got past the hearing test. There is some misalignment on several screens. In one place I’m to enter a profile name for the environment where the test was run, and press OK, but these 2 text fields overlap.

I didn’t add a picture for my profile on that screen, so now I can’t add it. There’s no obvious menu, no way to restart the process. Perhaps if I add another profile, and delete the first.

The audio processing seems OK, but there’s a lot of noise added. I’m also listening with pretty good noise-cancelling headphones, which might defeat the purpose.

I really want this to work, as I’m really frustrated bynoisy environments. I’ll give it a shot next time.

Response from developer

Dear QM64, First of all thank you very much for downloading Hear Me Well. We’re sorry to hear that you have experienced some issues during the first setup. If you have completed or skipped the test, and the “connect your headphones” was still showing up while you were perceiving some beeps, it might be due to a pairing issue with your headphones. Feel free to contact us anytime if you need help configuring or using the app, we will be really happy to help.

It may work for some people

It seems to give you only the one option of “I can hear it” if you can’t well to bad just have to pretend you can even if you can’t just to progress through the setup

Dear Robot Soup, thank you very much for downloading Hear Me Well and for taking your time to share your thoughts. We think that what you have pointed out is very interesting - we will certainly investigate and consider to add this function on the future updates of the app.

So far so good!

Been using the app for a little over an hour now, setup was a breeze although I wasn’t able to hear over 3000 but still had to sit through the higher pitches. Nonetheless, I can hear cars passing by in the street while I sit on the toilet!

Good idea, but doesn’t quite work

An interesting idea and if it worked would be brilliant. The lag is unacceptable and so you hear the voice a few milliseconds after a person has spoken, so effectively you hear things twice. Sadly this makes the app useless. If it could be refined to use with no lag, it could be amazing.

Dear therealduende, First of all thank you very much for choosing Hear Me Well. Unfortunately a very small delay is absolutely normal. This is caused by the hardware limitations of the devices, and the time of delay depends on the model of your headset. We are working hard to reduce it as much as possible in order to improve the user experience, that's why your opinion is important to us. We will be releasing an update very soon with improvements on the latency. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us.

Terrible don’t buy

Great App

Just Woks. I downloaded 2 free apps and they were junk, they claimed Bluetooth but that wasn’t true. Read the info on this app and it claimed it worked with AirPods and that’s what I wanted. Figured if it worked then it would be the cheapest hearing aides I could ever buy. Downloaded app and gave it a try and it was everything I wanted. I was having trouble hearing very faint beeps given off by an air conditioner that I was servicing and once I put my iPhone up by AC with app open so mic could hear, wow, they came through loud and clear. Now if they only work in a noisy bar or restaurant. Definitely 2 thumbs up.

There is not a single app like it in the App Store!

Fantastic app! Been searching all around for anything similar... Works perfectly.. iOS has this feature built in, but only for bluetooth hearing aid's.
