  • Legendary App

Dedicated developer. This is the only app for iPhone in which the sounds you create translate almost perfectly to a Korg Volca FM. If this developer were to make a tangible FM Synthesizer it would be as legendary as the DX-7. It seems this developer just “gets it” when it comes to making tools for FM synth nerds.

  • Best iOS fm synth, and keeps improving!

An excellent fm synth that is compatible with DX7 patches!

The recent audio engine version updates are a joy. They use similar functions as the DX7 to recreate that gritty 80s fm character. It sounds like hardware now and that’s amazing! And the update was free!

My only complaint is that the parameter editing is a bit slow because you have to click a section and then edit a parameter inside. I wish there was some way to make the edit page quicker (besides mapping out the AUv3 params). But I understand why the design decision was made to handle different layouts etc.

Buy this app if you like fm synthesis, doubly so if you like fm hardware!

  • Competitors Don't Even Come Close

This is a real synth, not a pile of clunky samples to sift through. The app itself is tiny (in terms of Megabytes) and very efficient at what it does. You'll love it.
  • Fantastic DX7 Conversion

This developer is extremely talented and has been able to almost completely transform the sounds designed from a DX7 to KQDixie and then back onto a modern day hardware synth all without loosing data. The translation is very good and predictable. I use hardware more than software but this valuable tool is used frequently. Nothing beats the sound of a DX7 or Volca FM / FM2 for that authentic “true to Eno” FM feel. KQDixie 100% gets it right. awesome dev, awesome product

  • Wish I found this app years sooner.

I love most everything about this app except for the name. Seriously would have never found this gem if it weren’t for a forum post. Now this is my absolute go-to for FM sounds. All other synths fell short in different areas. Being AUv3 and vector graphics place this above all others. Thanks!
  • Good App but has some quirks

Good app, UI is way too beige. it needs a dark mode update desperately, it syncs with hardware some of the time but that depends on the phase of the moon apparently. Sounds awesome and exactly like the volca fm’s / dx7. Good work by a solid dev
  • Cant Ever Go Away

This app is paramount for those who use volca fm modules. The most straightforward and least stressful way to design 6opFM patches that translate wonderfully to the hardware versions. I will continue to support this app. 100% buy kqdixie. no lookbacks.
  • Worth the Hype!

Have been hearing about KQ DIXIE from friends and forums since I started using iOS to make music and now I get it. It’s highly usable with no bad presets at all! Lots of power under the hood as well with many parameters to toggle and dial in. Word on the street is the dev is going to be raising the price soon so glad I took the plunge on this very capable FM synth app.

  • lovely design

really nice design. works great on an SE. I love the simple method of layering voices. super!
  • Outstanding app

I started with the fm 2 from audio kit which does sound good but it’s sample based and not fm. Therefore you cannot dump or import sysex. The dexed port for iOS is weak compared to this app so if you don’t know which one to get then get KQ, I also think it’s evil to charge for a free open source port that is weaker than the competition.

Anyway I wanted an equivalent to the DX5 ( 2 Dx 7s) and this app lets you stack multiples of itself and use multitimbral modes. I mean what else can I say but outstanding. Fully compatible with sysex easy to import and export. Instead of buying a volca fm 2 I just downloaded the sysex and problem solved I saved $200.
