  • Very promising

Only an hour in and really enjoying the game.
If you’re after a challenge and enjoy games like dark souls - try this out.
  • A true experience

Finally! A mobile game that’s not mired in micro transactions, not hobbled by waiting mechanics and skinner boxes, but a well polished, beautiful title with tight controls. Price is low for how good this title is.
  • Outrageously good

In the age of devs submitting mostly garbage to the App Store, it’s wonderful to see something so solid.

Metroid-vania style hack and slash with a good bit of Dark Souls thrown in—though not nearly as unforgiving. If you have a mfi controller this is basically AAA gaming on your iPhone/iPad (and it’s worth noting that the cloud saving seamlessly saves between them so you can pick up and play between devices without losing your progress).

Outstanding to see not just a solid game for iOS, but a game that would legitimately be notable on any platform.

  • Love it

Absolutely amazing game, I only wish there was more content available!

This game provides about 10-12 hours of challenging but satisfying gameplay from start to finish, but has plenty of replayability for a few further playthroughs.

Would definitely recommend if you’re a fan of challenging hack n slash action games with a hint of Dark Souls-esque difficulty.

  • A ton of fun. Too hard to finish though.

I don’t care if I spend $1 or $20, I expect an enjoyable game. I have paid $10 and been disappointed and $2 and thought how did they make a great game so cheap. Well, GrimValor, even though I am not a side scroller fan and I’m only Level 3. Holy Cow, this games looks fantastic and it’s fun. Responsive controls and excellent everything. I just hope it continues to get better, has some length to it but if it gets much harder I’m screwed. I’ll update as I go but I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed. 5 hours later, Level 11 and it keeps getting better and harder.
could not finish, stuck in Nelaag’s Lair, just not good enough of a player. Watched a video of the last boss and ending though. Disappointed in the endings. Level 24 almost finished. I’m done.

  • Outstanding

6 years of buying iOS games and this is the best yet by far. As others have said it borrows from the souls series but is tailored to iOS in the way it plays as a 3d side scroller, and also in its difficulty levels. Once you master the dashing/ dodging and the double jumping etc you feel like you can move anywhere in matrix-like speed - A testament to the great controls. Just stick with it until it feels fluid! I love this game and really recommend it - and no this isn’t a fake dev review.

  • Great pacing, phenomenal graphics, mechanics, weapon options, no IAP

Superb gameplay and I really enjoyed the dodge mechanics. Tip: Take the time to get the chests and treasure piles. There’s a trinket later on that will slow down time when you successfully dodge. The last boss is quite challenging and took me many many retries. I clocked 11 hours and finished the game. Did not feel like a grind at all. All the maps are unique and decent story.

Well worth the $5 I paid. Kudos to the developers for not exploiting the IAP scheme which plagues most mobile games.

  • Castlevania IOS?

I hate writing reviews but I’m so impressed with this release that I feel it’s my duty as an avid gamer to do so.....sooooo here it goes-if the castlevania/Metroid genre ( admittedly more the first than the latter) had a baby with a fine tuned rpg, then ud have this game. Everything-literally,graphics,gameplay,story,overall execution, etc are done near flawlessly, 5 star all the way, if u,like myself have wished for a castlevania release on IOS,well then like myself ur gonna have to keep on waiting......BUT if ur down with the next best and in some respects better thing then
GET THIS GAME....u will not regret it

    Post edit:
had the game for a few days now and all I can say over and over and over is WOW just simply WOW....I from the bottoms of my heart wish u guys win some kind of game of the year award....it would take me multiples of multiples of paragraphs to do this game justice......This game is 100% worth double the asking price.....and this last bit is real talk-just to the devs: PLEASE keep making games, please,Grimvalor is an example of everything IOS gaming can and should b,u kno what I’m talking about and from one fan of tru gaming to a a group of who I can only assume is made up of the same-congrats-this game will go down as one of the best on this platform

  • Impressive - worth every penny

Really good quality game - finally a decent game on iPhone amongst the huge pile of micro transaction drivel that is 99% of the games on the App Store these days. Tight controls, great graphics, challenging yet fun gameplay. Worth the price easily. Thank you devs for not ruining this with IAP, ads and other junk. Please make more high quality pay-once games! This is like the good old days of app gaming.

  • Not as Dark Souls as it first appears

Grimvalor definitely borrows heavily from Dark Souls. It’s a challenging 2D platformer in which the enemies pack a punch and big bosses act as significant roadblocks to progress. However the developers have been extremely canny in what they borrow from Dark Souls and what they ignore. This is a game that has been built from the ground up to work on mobile. There’s no stamina bar, allowing you to dodge frantically when under pressure. Your character can move at a decent lick, climb walls, jump high, all of which helps mitigate the lack of precision that virtual controls inevitably bring. This means that, in comparison with other games, its relatively easy to get away from tough situations to recover your health. The controls are as slick as any I’ve seen on mobile and I almost always felt that skill was the defining factor in both my victories and defeat. There’s plenty of hidden things to find and the levels reward careful exploration. This will probably be my mobile game of the year.
