  • The new benchmark

It’s hard to imagine the same developers of the incredible Swordigo could make such a dramatic improvement, but that’s just what they’ve done here.

Swordigo was lauded for its core playability. Excellent precise controls, challenging yet forgiving gameplay, lovely story and general addictiveness. Grimvalor maintains that but takes it up a notch by creating a dark mood through amazing graphics and lighting.

This is a very polished console worthy “sequel”? Technically not a sequel, but some lovely similarities to Swordigo.

Anyone who’s a fan of fast paced hack and slash platformers. Or just wants a game they can sink their teeth into quickly. You’re looking at the new benchmark on iOS.

  • Excellent

Not sure why my review keeps not saving, but I am not re-typing that whole message so thanks Apple for that....Absolutely fantastic game that I can’t recommend enough.

Devs: I have 1 ask. Sneaking up behind opponents who have their back turned should trigger a insta kill. As you approach, some kind of visual queue lets the player know that tapping attack will trigger it. Otherwise, I couldn’t ask for a better platformer, deep and hard but rewarding combat system, and awesome storyline and universe that the devs have created 🤘🏻👍🏻👍🏻

  • Perfect Game!!

    Other devs take note;
No IAP’s, reasonably priced, great controls (that you can move to suit your phone and hand size, so simple but you’d be surprised how many games don’t have this!), great graphics WITHOUT making your phone melt (few others achieve this level of optimisation), no bugs (again-!!), story line (although a bit weak) and plenty of upgrades while balancing grind with progress, non linear....
I could go on, but needless to say if you like hack and slash, you’ll love this.
Thank you devs for creating a great game while making the right decisions, you have no idea how rare that is these days!!

  • Breathtakingly...

...most gorgeous graphics. Gameplay is smooth and precise. Controls are right size, perfectly located. Music is atmospheric. A gentle most appropriate tutorial. Perfectly balanced controls make this game a most enjoyable one to play. I can take my time and take in the gorgeous surroundings. It has lovely lighting. I want to hug this game. Well worth the money I spent on it...*magnificently satisfied gamer who is most pleased the game does not have abstruse controls*

  • Instant classic!!

Cross between bloodborne and strider but don’t let the hack and slash word play fool ya, This will punish you badly if you “hack and slash” as it’s a skill based game. Enemies are smart and it will take multiple Respawn attempts on some parts to complete. This is like dark souls “prepare to die!!! “In a good way”. Though you die a lot a for mentioned, it doesn’t get boring or repetitive. The grind for the components/in game currency “no iaps!!”, keeps things fresh and worth the grind. You’ll gladly search every nook and cranny for loot and goodies to win that new sword or armor upgrade. Bosses are well thought out and levels are masterfully designed. Physics are near perfect and controls fluid and super responsive. I dare to say, I’ve never played a side scrolling game in its league. This stands on it own two feet. Though it borrows from other titles it feels original. Well worth the asking price. Can’t wait for the sequel!!

  • Amazing.

Absolutely fantastic so far. Amazing, smooth graphics that look stellar on the XS Max. Touch controls work great, simple but easy to use and functional. There needs to be more titles like this on the App Store!
  • Serious Diablo 3 vibes! I love it.

I hope to see more classes or grinding. I haven’t played the whole game but it would be kinda sad to just finish the story with nothing else to do. Either way, this game is seriously well made.
  • Read before buying to get an idea

I see some review saying this borrows heavily from dark souls???! Lol idk what they are playing but it’s nothing like dark souls, if anything it’s more like a castlevania game on the 3ds. That said it’s a good platform hack n slash fantasy adventure game with a story to boot.
Plays smoothly and has controller support which is awesome.
    5 stars from me.

  • Just WOW

Honestly, this game is very gratifying. Every element seems to be well conceived and implemented. Great gameplay, simple enough for mobile, but engaging enough to not get stale. New abilities get unlocked allowing for Metroidvania style content. Sound is great and story is serviceable, though I haven’t been through much of that just yet. Also, the bonfire equivalents are fairly abundant, which I find great for a mobile game. I generally snatch a few minutes here and there, and that’s usually enough to make it to the next checkpoint. Even so, the challenge is still there, with enemies being perfectly capable of taking you out if you lose focus. Overall a great experience. I’ll take Premium over Freemium any day.

  • A challenging Souls-esque adventure!

This game borrows heavily from the Souls series in terms of its gameplay, structure and overall tone, and attempts to deliver the same level of challenge. However there are a number of deviations from the Souls formula that make this game considerably more forgiving than the legend that inspired it: no stamina limit, no xp loss on death and some very generous I-frame when dodging (which more than makes up for the lack of a block function), along with the addition of several very un-Soulslike features like a world map, a quest log and the clear division of the story into “Acts”.

That said it’s still no cakewalk; the enemies in the game deal massive damage (especially the archers; I hate those guys!) and will mercilessly punish you for sloppy play. One rather odd feature is that the energy that fuels your special abilities can only be recovered by killing enemies, which requires the game’s bosses (including the world bosses known as “hunters”) to constantly spawn adds in order to give you a means of recovering your energy. This often leads to a buildup of enemies which can very easily stunlock you to death; however once you’ve mastered the game’s dodging mechanic you should have no trouble.

All in all it’s not quite Dark Souls but it’s the next best thing. Good luck on your journey, but be warned - you’ll die many times before you reach its end!
