  • Great, but could be better.

I’ll first start off by saying that this game is worth the price tag. It’s fun and challenging for anyone interested in Soul-likes. I do have a few criticisms, however. The main one being that the level-up system is flawed. In my play-through, I decided I wanted to build a utility-type character and maximize trinket usage. Unbeknownst to me, there are only about 8 trinkets in the game (none of which are especially useful), so I wasted a lot of my early levels (as you cannot redistribute your levels until later in the game) making the first two bosses almost impossible. Needless to say, health, critical strikes, and damage are far more valuable, making the level-up process fairly linear. The developers should have implemented a cap, in my opinion. All in all, great game.

  • Grimvalor is anything but grim

I walked into this game skeptical about spending $8 on it but now that I have finished the game I can say I feel like I stole it. Grimvalor is a very well written game with a DarkSouls inspired story and very polished and streamlined combat. I enjoyed every minute of this game from fighting the challenging bosses and exploring the maps to find materials for better equipment. My only problem is that some areas had too many enemies in one spot so it became overwhelming at times but I think that’s part of the design so it’s easily forgivable. This game has become one of my favorites that I can play on my phone.

  • Intensely challenging and simply beautiful!

It’s not often review games on the App Store because I’ve played so darn many of them and quite a few are hyped up with flashy screen shots and fake reviews to get people to buy a half-made animation project or incomplete concept game. GrimValor doesn’t need these because it’s a complete experience in and of itself. You can tell from the way it plays, the art style, the soundtracks, the character designs, GrimValor is inspired by another popular game series, but it’s also entirely its own game. The concept is popular lately, but GrimValor itself takes it a unique direction. I have played most of the first chapter so far, and the controls are simple, the action is fast-paced, and the story is captivating. This is really more than a game, it’s a work of art. The creators should be proud of they have made and this is worth every cent of the price.

  • Best Metroidvania game on the store!

I had to pause the game to write a review. This game is hands-down the best action adventure game on the App Store. I would’ve been happy to see this game released on a console years ago. It’s filled with much of the action/rpg mechanics you’d expect with the enemy challenge you want. The graphics are beautiful and animations on point. I especially love the zoom in action sequences.

It has it flaws however and has plenty of room for improvement. The story can be much more robust. More enemy variety would help as well as adding more Metriod elements such as find a key or special power here and open a door somewhere else that is perhaps not so obvious and more challenging.

None of this stops me from recommending this game however. I can’t wait for the much more improved part 2.

  • Let’s be frank here

I mean sure it has good elements. But at that price point you have absolute gems of game production and this piece isn’t part of them.

    the negative outweighs the good:

    - dragging on for 5 unimaginative acts when the same budget could have made three good ones

    - muddy textures, cheap uninspired 3D art and Lo fi animations

    - repetitive, everything repetitive: weapons within a category are basically all the same, ditto for the enemies, ditto for the levels

    - poor game balance: generally very easy and without any real challenge, then a frustratingly difficult jumping puzzle comes up, then more monotonous levels. I kept my finger on the axe button and just mowed down the whole game

  • Amazing!

Was looking for a decent new game and had been seeing this one pop up multiple times. Quick glance wasn’t doing it and I passed it over several times. Then, after finally deciding to give it a try= completely blown away. This game is worth every penny and then some! No iap’s just buy once and your off on a grand adventure for only seven bucks! The game plays like castlevania and as far as I’m concerned, it truly is ‘Castlevania IOS’.
So, in closing; if your even semi interested, buy it! The game is a masterpiece & amazingly fun. It’s a steal for the price. I hope the developers make more like this one here.

    Meow meow mewwwwwwwww.

  • Epic!!

As the title says, this game is epic! I’ve been looking for a game like this. Great job. Fluid motion and crisp graphics. Only one suggestion, if you do a second one of these a difficulty selection would be great. For those of us that like to up the challenge!
    Great game, thanks you!
  • Nothing like it on the App Store

Grim Valor is money well spent. Tight controls, very fun, good progression system, lots of hidden loot to find, and nice artwork for characters and environment. You won’t get any better in a side scroller on mobile. Yeah it’s drawing references to dark souls which I never played because I actually don’t like dying every minute in a game buuuut Grim Valor was generous with save points and the bosses were fun to fight even when they get you five times in a row. Support this developer by buying this excellent game. I beat it in 8 hours finding 90% of the secrets or so and it was money well spent. I even played through a second time and had just as much fun.

  • Metroidvania done right on IOS

Grimvalor is an excellent game for IOS. The graphics, gameplay sound, and control (yes even the touch controls) are very good. The game is made for quick play sessions so there are tons of save points where you can kill some enemies or collect a few important items, save and quit if you need to. You can progress through the game by upgrading your character with items and upgrading your weapons. Both make you more powerful. The dodge mechanic helps give you more control over you character which helps you avoid enemy attacks more easily. The graphics are simple yet effective. I ‘d say graphics are close to Dreamcast level. This game is highly recommended. * Played on IPAD*
