  • So many levels of perfect!

I’ve been looking for an RPG on iOS to scratch my itch for Metroidvania/Dungeon RPG, and so far every game I’ve tried has been lacking, leaving me disappointed. Then GrimValor shows up, and blows my mind. Instant classic! I only hope that this game is a long one with lots of replay value, because so far I’m in love! Somehow it even captures a bit of Dark Souls in the mix, making this a beautifully rounded RPG/dungeon crawler/platformer/hack and slash.

If you were on the fence, come join the dark side — we don’t have cookies...just a lot of coins in breakable urns.

  • The Dark Souls of iOS Gaming!

This game is worth the money, though I did buy it on a sale, it deserves the full price for what it offers!

Although game is very hard, expect lots of deaths. ;)
  • Well executed

Touch controls just aren’t as good a game pad but Grimvalor works it’s damnest work around it’s short comings, reducing gameplay to 5 inputs: left, right, jump, dodge and attack and even can feel a bit rough.

It’s well made, fun to play, and several hours of gameplay. A few bosses are challenging but not impossible and there’s a few secrets to be found. It feels like (but doesn’t look) a high quality PlayStation era of game, a bit short to be called “console” quality but idea for mobile. The story is forgettable but the game play isn’t. I finished the game (most playing it in 5-20 minute bursts at the gym while warming up on a treadmill). Graphically the game is solid, looking somewhat like a forgotten PS2/Xbox era game, and with decent soundtrack and Sfx to match.

Best of all, no in app purchases. I hope there’s a few for $6-$15 games that offer experiences like this.

    Pay once. I love it.

this game blew me away - it is the most fun i’ve had playing a game on ipad since aquaria from about 6 years ago. it is a similar styled game - i’ve heard that it is the castlevania/metroid type genre - but i’m not familiar with either of those classics. this one took me just under 42 hours to do everything there was to do, and it took me just under a week to get from start to finish while playing it somewhat obsessively during the entire timeframe. one thing that makes this a bit different than other games that i’ve enjoyed is that you can “level up” so eventually even if you aren’t that skillful at the game mechanics your character will become strong enough to just crush everything in your path without too much dexterity required. the boss fights are all somewhat similar but every one takes a little while to beat - usually more than one try even if you are on a high level - i finished at level 29 which makes the character super-strong due to the greater amount of time i spent trying to get through some of the areas. you can probably finish the game at level 20, and it would require much more skill to do so. anyway sorry for the long-winded review here if i’m wasting people’s time, but i wish to commend the developers for making a truly *awesome* game, and i very much hope it wins the game of the year award.

  • Side scrolling lengthy game

I bought this game this Monday(Nov, 12,2018) and it does not disappoint. The levels are cut throughout sections of the Act so it fits into the pick up and play category. Their are resting shrines every two or three minutes that always save you progress but resets enemies. It has a basic level up system like an Rpg similar to Blood-born and has play style similar to Dark-souls. This game is still very new to me as i’m just on Act1 at level 6 and only have 7 levels of that finished, so i’ll update this review once i get to Act 2!
Update: Written on November 25, 2018
I completed Act 2 Two days ago. This Act is the same with new enemies and hidden paths. I completed the Act at level 19. I will update once on Act 3!

  • Stunning

Incredible game, looks stunning, sounds great, perfectly balanced gameplay. One of the best iOS games I've played. Great with a controller as well!!
  • A beautiful game to spend hours completing

Bored, on a train, staring out the window with nothing to do, until I realised I just purchased a game the day before, I quickly open the app and was amazed to see how beautiful the game was, how fluid the movements were and each sense of accomplishment after each section was completed, I’ve spent so many hours on this game and it was 100% worth the money I paid for it. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good mobile game and you will not regret your purchase.

  • Novocaine for the Dark Soul.

What an excellent 2D platform hack and slash game. Probably not the most original game on the market (this is the first game like this I’ve played in years) but it’s extremely playable without getting too bogged down in the complexity of character building or weapon changes before battles or being too interruptive. Resting only takes a couple of seconds to rejuvenate your health and soul magic but here you can level up, upgrade weaponry, add to your attributes and then it’s off you go hacking, slashing, jumping, puzzle solving and looking for new weapons until you can level up again. You have the obligatory end of level guardians to defeat along the way with some neat game play and zippy manoeuvrability makes Grimvalor a very joyous experience, by the end level my character had enough mastery with combined special trinkets that its was pretty much flying around like a superhero. The actual story itself is a bit naff but the playability heavily outweighs it...which is the way it should be really. I really enjoyed it and finished it in 3 days with 25 hours of game play clocked. Looking forward to Grimvalor II or an expansion.

  • Best mobile action game of 2018! GOTY!

BUY IT! Worth the full price!! We need more of this kind of quality games in IOS.

    Now here are few suggestions:

After beating this game with all hidden items found, I wish there is a “New Game Plus” mode. If the developer is looking at this, I suggest you guys should add more weapons and armors. Maybe if you guys decides to make NG+, random unique monster haunting events drop unique weapons or items will be cool also. Some more side missions when encountering NPCs, and i think the forge deserves different looks when upgraded.

  • Please read if you are unsure about paying

I’ve never written a review on a game before.. but I cannot pass this game on that this time. I’ve never considered mobile games to be any good at all, I always thought there was more to it but I could never find anything other than turn- based games. That is until I came across this game, having my doubts about paying for the app I put my trust in trailer and went for it. Boy oh boy, I was not ready for the storm that was coming. This game is amazing, it’s artwork and music put the player deep into the game and make you feel as a part of it. Never have I ever been so immersed in a mobile game. I find myself drowning with curiosity wondering what will happen next. The story is very well written and I am looking forward to re-entering the world that is GRIMVALOR.
