  • Wonderful app! With one complaint/suggestion

This app has transformed my prayer life! I was hesitant to pay the $$ at first, but after giving it a try through a free trial, I have found it well worth it! There are so many different prayer and meditation options for many circumstances. At times I find it overwhelming with the many options, but I love that there are so many and that they are continually being uploaded and updated.

My only minor complaint and suggestion is a technical one. When browsing through the many lists, if you hit “back” it will take you all the way back to the home screen instead of the previous page you were on. This can be frustrating as the many lists are like navigating a labyrinth at times, and if I was simply trying to browse the various novenas, for example, I have to go all the way back to the beginning each time I hit “back” and navigate the labyrinth again. This seems like it would be a simple technical fix from the developers of the app and would make it much easier for the users.

Hello! We are blessed and grateful for your feedback. Regarding your concern with the "back" feature, we do have that on the radar so please stay tuned! We appreciate that you are allowing us to improve. God bless you :)
  • I guess I’m too old…See Update Below

It took me a little time, but I figured out how to slow down how fast the people speak on this app. I couldn’t keep up with them, and even slowed down as much as I can, I still have difficulty keeping up. That’s why three stars. I’d have given five stars otherwise. I’m on a fixed income so I can’t afford the premium content but I appreciate the free content, thank you very much for it! You just need to have somebody do the prayers more slowly for us older people.
UPDATE: Someone from Hallow reached out to me and explained what I need to do to slow down the speech, and how to do it. I was surprised they reached out, I’ve never had support like that before! So because of that I’ve changed from a three stars to a five stars review. Thanks for reaching out!!

  • A tremendous help for a new Catholic

I didn’t grow up in a religious household and only within the last few years have been developing my faith and finished RCIA two years ago. Praying is still relatively new and something that I am growing in, this app has really helped that with all the different options from stations of the cross, rosary, divine mercy, etc. I have also thoroughly enjoyed and learned so much through the Bible in a year which is based off of the great adventure Catholic Bible and features a lot of information to help understand and get more from the readings. It is also very cool that Jonathan Roumie from “The Chosen and Jim Caviezel from “Passion of the Christ” is available as readers or are featured in some of the talks.I strongly recommend this for any Christian not just Catholics. I promise that absolutely everyone will get something out of Hallow. Thank you for this great resource!

  • Worth downloading!

I had the free version of hallow when I was a student and couldn’t afford the subscription and found even the free content to be incredibly well made and helpful with plenty of prayers and voices to choose from. For lent this year I decided to purchase the full version of the app now that I could afford it and it has blown my expectations out of proportion! No matter if you can afford the subscription or not, you should download the app and give it a try. Prayer is a tricky thing and different for everyone, but I really think both versions of this app has a little something for everyone!

My favorite thing that is available for free is the reciting of Night Prayer with the comforting voices, background sounds, and beautiful and easy to use design

  • A Huge Blessing

This app is amazing, and I am so thankful to everyone who puts their time and effort into making it the excellent prayer resource that it is. I am a working mom of three, and after the arrival of our third child, I was struggling to get my prayer routine back on track. At the recommendation of a friend, I downloaded this app and found a way to seamlessly weave into my day the word of God, traditional prayers, and new ways of sitting with the Lord - not to mention all delivered in voices that are “like butter.” The free version is fantastic, but I encourage anyone who is able to upgrade to the Plus version, which offers so many great features and importantly supports the mission and work of those who make this incredible content available in a world-class platform.

  • The Best Catholic App, Bar None

We Catholics believe in the Word made flesh. We believe, that is, in the Word. This Word comes to us not only through written text, but through speech. Indeed, many of the Church’s sons and daughters through the ages could only experience the Word through speech, for many were illiterate. Speech comes before writing, not only in the development of language, but so too in the development of being and of the universe itself.

Then, it only follows naturally that it is of great value to have an app which guides us through the Catholic prayer tradition through audio. Hallow has, through the Spirit, gifted us believers just that. The content is of high quality; it is produced well, with a sleek, calming aesthetic; and it is full of living faith.

There are guided Rosaries, lectio divinas, daily Psalms, and all sorts of tools for prayer, including seasonal challenges, such as the ongoing Lenten challenge. In our days, when we are all obsessed with our smartphones, why not bring our faith into our obsession, so that our obsession with technology becomes our obsession with Christ?

For anyone looking to deepen their faith and prayer life this Lent, this bad Catholic recommends this great app.

  • Okay, but needs basics

Better to something than nothing, so I am happy that this exists. But it needs major improvements. Rosary routines are not as given to the world by Mary. Instead, this offers a the new version, with JP-II’s additions. Would be easy to add the original version.

Psalms uses a truly bad translation. Deep meanings in the mental poetry are completely removed. Offer alternate translations that adhere closely to the Hebrew text, like the Douay-Rheims, or the Grail Psalter.

It’s no surprise that Bishop Barron is featured in this. Though he very often strikes out when a specific soul is on the line & the theological bases are loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning. Not withstanding any critiques of his statements on the eternal logos being just “the privileged way” & “we have a reasonable hope that all men are saved” , he manages to be in the spotlight constantly, and seems to showcase his own intellect more than the Trinity’s mercy/justice, love for us, & mastery of all. I’d rather his presence here be counter balanced with the simple faith and bold proclamation of other prelates who do not show so many sign an egocentric predilection.

  • Nice App!

My husband and I had both been looking for something to help our evenings wind down better with God. The daily readings are amazing. This app has a lot to it (reflection space, mood tracker, prayers for moods, daily gospel, rosary based on daily mysteries, bed time gospel stories, a kids zone that does stories and prayer how to based on age, music center, chants, prayer session challenges and more.) I started to use it to help me get my rosary in the mornings like I have been wanting to do. You can set routines into your phone to help carve time out of your day for God as well.

My only recommendation to the developers is to add the transcript in on the sessions. This would be helpful for 3 reasons. 1) New Catholic’s learning prayers and how things work no matter the age 2) To help when the mind is overly active to give something else to focus and help ease into the meditative process 3) Meditation can be great for relaxing or stimulating to wake up. With how things are currently set up, there is a lot of focus of relaxing versus stimulating to the day. Words on the screen can help be part of that stimulation.

Keep up the great app! Can’t wait to see what all you add!

  • Thanks from this Protestant!

Last January, after having gone through the final illness and death of my father, I determined to be more faithful in my devotional life. After looking around the ‘net and the App Store, I decided to try the Hallow preview and a couple of others. I’m Protestant, so I was hesitant about the Hallow app being Catholic.

Well, before the preview was up, I had subscribed to Hallow. This app has helped me keep my promise to be more faithful in daily reading and prayer. I have particularly enjoyed the Daily Mass Readings and Daily Reflections. Plus, through the Daily Saints feature, I’ve learned so much about amazing Christians from the past. (I’ve even learned to love the Rosary.) I also loved the Advent prayers. Not only has the app helped me be more faithful, I also feel so much more connected to the (little c-catholic; i.e. universal) Church. The app has been well worth the subscription.
