  • Good game, but Game Center integration?

I love this game and have played it extensively on the Switch and quite a bit on iPad and iPhone. On iPhone I’ve never had any evidence of Game Center working, but did unlock a few achievements I later learned. On iPad it used to show that I was logged in through Game Center and there was an Achievements button on the main menu, but that has suddenly changed.

  • No instructions or explanations. Unplayable.

Not sure if this is even a game. There are no instructions, no explanation on the mechanics of how it works, not even anything stating what the goal is. There are random cards that you put on random pedestals that produce other random cards until the game is randomly over for whatever random reason. It is completely unplayable without explanation as to what is going on, how it works, and what you’re trying to accomplish.

  • Making amends

Over a year ago, I first gave this app two (2) stars. I played it a few times, couldn’t understand it, and deleted it. In the three weeks since I re-downloaded it, I have won twice, lost countless times, and become completely immersed in Cultist Simulator’s compelling and mysterious atmosphere.

Let me be clear: this game is hard. It takes time to work things out, it’s infuriating when you unwittingly end the game before you can win. But once you’re into the (admittedly steep) learning curve, it is incredibly satisfying to know how to combat various events and happenstances, and when (/if) you win, it feels well earned.

I don’t review many games, only if they’re awful or amazing. Cultist Simulator is amazing. Exactly my kinds of game, exactly my kind of atmosphere. 10/10.

  • This one really gets under your skin

They’re not kidding - there’s no tutorial. But there are hints sprinkled through the game letting you know some things you could try. Remember, it’s a rogue-like, so don’t be afraid to die a few times. The Darkness doesn’t render up its secrets easily…
  • Intoxicating

Cards, occult mysteries, clockwork and dream walking… what strange and wonderful sorcery is this?!
  • a LOT of grinding

This is a compelling idea but needs serious editing. The game is basically all about grinding with random drops, which would be okay if it felt like you were making meaningful progress. However there is a looong stretch in the middle of the game where you can spend hours without much really happening. And there are some random occurrences (curses) which can completely ruin your game without much recourse. Without save files, you just have to start over again.

  • A slow burn that turns into a bonfire

This game is amazing. You will “fail” multiple times. But each one teaches you more and more of this game, weaving stories and characters across an immense landscape. Somehow so expertly played with cards. Writing. Intense creativity. To wrap up.

    GET. THIS. GAME.
  • This game is phenomenal

It took me a while to get into this game but lately I’ve been obsessed. I love how it is designed to be good for experimenting and trying new things and sort of like a rogue like in that way.

I’ve been playing it in my computer in steam and it works really well. Unfortunately on my phone it quits every few minutes minutes. Is there a fix for that?

  • Haunting

Simple mechanics create almost infinite complexity, and the game has a dreamlike intensity that’s hard to pin down. I’ll put it down for a while, then need to play again. No pay to win, no extra anything to buy - just play your cards and keep dreaming
  • Needs more clock options

This is an interesting game so far, but a half-speed option would put it to five stars for me. As others have said, cards don’t always appear in your field of view, and when you’re a new player, you may not have time to read everything you need to, even if you’re a fast reader. If you don’t enjoy the experience of time pressure, you’re not going to enjoy this. If you can tolerate that you’re under intense time pressure even on your first play-through, this is a clever and interesting game. But 30 seconds is not enough.
