Dog with a bone.

Every podcast I’ve listened to has been fantastic. They are interesting, well investigated and quite shocking.
Only negative point is I find it very difficult to navigate this website

Content great app not so

I love the content from Tortoise; really interesting journalism and absorbing podcasts. I just wish the app was bit more intuitive. It would be great if each episode of a series just automatically followed on without the need to manually add it to a queue.
It would also be good if you could have a ‘mark as read’ option to stop episodes from popping up again which has happened few times.
Other than that, keep up the good work!

Great app

Love using this app, it’s very aesthetically pleasing like reading a newspaper. The content is top quality, balanced and offers a great in depth insight into aspects of the news. Great variety of podcasts too, my favourites being the daily sense maker, Trendy and the investigative series. Keep it up! The only thing I’d say is the layout is not the most intuitive, sometimes making it tricky to find what you’re looking for. It would be good to have a menu or navigation central reference point

Not an intuitive app

Great content BUT navigating the app in not intuitive. Poorly organized and difficult to find subsequent episodes once you start listening to an episode.

Evolving nicely!

With the increase of podcasts, Editor’s Message and The News Meeting, I feel even more content with my subscription. I appreciate the drilling down for truth that has been done for me. I hope the Tortoise Team keep the reporting as authentic as possible and try not to allow the business of news to compromise the product. Thank you

Clunky App

The quality of the journalism is not at fault. The updated app is tiresome - I have to put in my phone pin everytime I open the app. The what’s new for me section is stuck at 17 July. The history is not up to date. I find I keep having to search to get the latest information. I don’t get the written news on the app any longer which is irritating because I’m missing out on news and have to trawl through my emails for the news bulletin.

Content vs App

Basically the content is great. Well researched deep dive journalism and well worth paying for. The initial app was poor, clunky and not intuitive, I hoped this would be much improved but after installing it crashed after a few uses, I still don’t find it very intuitive to use. I’ve just reinstalled. A shame, hope there will be improvements.

Update: the app froze again and just stopped working. Closed and reopened didn’t work so I uninstalled and reinstalled. It running now. Very frustrating. I note many negative comments on the app please sort this out.

One huge improvement would be: if you’re listening to a series make it default to next episode unless you alter in the queue, things like that would really help.

Response from developer

Thank you for your valuable feedback. I've forwarded your suggestion about the queue to our product team. Regarding the crash reports, we've updated the app to resolve the issue and hopefully it doesn't happen again. We appreciate your input, and if you have any further suggestions or questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Love content, hate the app

I think tortoise media content is amazing and worth the subscription. However I hate the app. I can’t find stuff on it and I find it so difficult to navigate. It takes me back to things I’ve listened to and loses the stuff I’m currently on. It’s hard to see the written descriptions of episodes and you have to click through to find the next episode rather than auto playing. Or if it can auto play, I can’t work out how to do it.

Response from developer

Hello and thank you for the feed back. In the latest release we have improved the user experience to improve the interactions with content. You can auto play a series by clicking on the play icon at the top of the listing. For example click on the "find out more" button on one of the Home Screen series such as Into the dirt" and press the play button in the header to play and queue all the episodes.

Best podcast channel out there

Was excited to use this but I shouldn’t have to create an account for the free plan, or at least let me sign up using google or Apple. I’m just so sick of creating an account for every single service, especially when there’s no reason companies need to know that info about me.

Update: improving every week

In just a few weeks, responding to user feedback, there’s a remarkable improvement.
There’s a more coherent structure, which simply transforms the user experience.

After the FT, Tortoise is probably the best long form news platform.

Who thought this was an improvement?

Oh dear. What an incoherent jumble of a user experience. Content 5 ⭐️ UX 1 ⭐️ Firstly, I’m a fan of the approach to news coverage, investigations and output. Secondly, the previous app was no longer optimal. But this is not an improvement. Specifically: … usually means more information, not a dead end. Clicking anywhere on screen starts an episode playing, rather than more information about it. Lines and lines of the same title isn’t a useful index of content. Prepared to bet there’s no user group testing this, it’s prettier but less effective than previous version.
