Misleading marketing

If it was made clear that this tech involved having to physically interact with each trap in order to extract its data, I certainly wouldn’t have bothered with it. Kind of like learning on its arrival that your pricey new car needs a crank handle to start it. The only place I can find this information is in the pamphlet that comes packaged with it - nowhere on the web site. A triumph of fluff over substance.

First of all, thank you for taking the time to review Chirp. We strive to be the best support to customers and feedback is crucial to achieving that. Secondly, hugely disappointing to hear your experience has fallen short and you feel misled by the information we have supplied in supporting the use of Chirp. While our website states that Chirp uses Bluetooth technology (which requires a manual ‘pairing’ of devices in the same vicinity), I acknowledge your criticism and will review our website content to make this aspect clearer. If the required interaction with the trap to prompt data sharing remains an issue for you please contact our Customer Care team who can assist you with return of your Chirp (or full A24 kit if you purchased it as part of a kit). Alternatively they can discuss other related options. Again, apologies for any disappointment caused. Please email us hello@goodnature.co.nz or give us a call on 0800 628 874 at your convenience. Thanks, Ann

Rubbish App

Unless you allow the app to know your precise location at all times, the App will not let you know when your trap has fired. More than a week after the trap fired (for 4 mice), I could smell them. Then only when I enabled both location always and precise location did the app sync with the trap.

The notification badge does not clear even after you read all messages and look at every screen in the app, close all apps and restart your iPhone.

When I setup my new trap, either the app or the chirp firmware, had a glitch and would not talk to the chirp ever again despite 22 support emails where they basically denied there was a problem. They finally sent me a replacement chirp but only because I raised a PayPal dispute.

Every single time you open the app, the first message is that it cannot find your trap, even after you wake up the trap , with your phone less than a meter away with Bluetooth WiFi etc enabled.

If these issues are important in your choice to buy a Goodnature trap, Don’t! Or make sure you use PayPal.

Hi, thanks so much for giving Chirp a go. We're really sorry you are disappointed with your experience. If you'd like to call our Customer Care team on +1800 317 466 we can arrange a refund. Thanks, Ann

Good looking app, but needs work

Just purchased the A24 kit with the Chirp cap. Have set up the trap with a camera ready to catch these damn rats as nothing else has worked yet.
The app itself looks great. But there’s a couple of things that need addressing. As another reviewer commented there needs to be an option to mark a suspected kill as “Moved Trap”. Also it would be very helpful to be able to adjust the remaining strikes myself. I did a couple of test firings with the Chirp cap off, so there’s no way to log these strikes and keep track of how many strikes are remaining in the gas cartridge.
Another thing is the app icon won’t remove the notification even after I’ve checked the app (iPhone X, iOS 14). So now the app has a permanent little red number 1 that won’t go away.
May also be helpful to some users to be able to use the app without the location tracking, as some people are paranoid about that type of thing. A way to implement this would be to give them the option to contribute to the trapping community by proving just their suburb instead of the mapped GPS location.

Response from developer

Thanks for the review, we appreciate your thoughts, please keep us posted with your success! I’ll pass on your feedback about the “moved trap” idea and we’d love to hear more about your experience here. If you’re happy to let us know what happened to prompt this request please drop us a line at hello@goodnature.com.au In terms of the strikes remaining, you can simulate a kill by tapping the Chirp. This “kill” notification will be sent to your phone after a couple of minutes and you can log it as a test fire which will adjust the remaining strikes. The red number 1 you mentioned is an issue we are working to resolve - I’m sorry you have experienced this. A work-around is to delete the app then download it again and the notification will disappear. And regarding the location settings, thanks for your consideration. As this is an Apple iOS requirement we don’t have the option to change it. If preferable, Chirp users can turn this setting on when they want to receive data and then turn it off again. If you have any further thoughts feel free to fire them through to us. Thanks! Ann

Chirp

I brought the Goodnature A24 rat and stoat trap with the chirp feature, as I read that it was the state of the art trap, with Bluetooth feature that tells you when it has killed a predator.
What a fool I was, it’s a piece of junk. I’ve never been able to get it to pair with my iPhone.

Response from developer

Thanks for taking the time to review Chirp - though I’m sorry to hear you haven't had success pairing, this must be frustrating! We’d love to help so please drop us a line at hello@goodnature.co.nz In case it's useful, we also have a video about how to pair Chirp with your device which you can watch here: https://goodnature.co.nz/pages/video-how-to-pair-the-chirp-cap-with-your-device Look forward to hearing from you soon, thanks! Ann

Chirp connectivity

Tried to sync well over 100 chirp traps this weekend. Difficulties encountered as follows;
1)Some won’t sync
2)Some are stuck on a contributors phone and have been for months, they won’t transfer ownership to the group and there has been no support from good nature.
3)The last sync date often doesn’t update
4)The sync process is better in mobile coverage than not, but unreliable.
5)The gas and lure up date process only works 20% of the time
6)None of the groups syncing activity has up loaded to the dash board so the group data is not accessible to group members
7) The only way to get the app to update was to load every trap individually?? On every phone and they all still had different totals

Still appears to be a prototype, In general there is a lot of debugging this app prior to it being properly useful.

Great product. Stop following my GPS location

Awesome product. Keeps my farm free of rodents. Recently got the chirp Bluetooth for my traps and it wants location services always on. That’s a big NO from me

Response from developer

Hi, thanks for taking the time to review Chirp. It’s great to hear you’ve experienced a difference using the traps on your farm! We recommend app users have their location preferences for the Goodnature app marked as “always” to allow data from Chirp to be sent in real time. You can choose to only turn this setting on when checking your trap and Chirp if you prefer. If you’d like to discuss this further please get in touch! You can contact us at hello@goodnature.com.au Thanks, Ann

Great App! But needs some work.

Awesome app and makes life so much easier by keeping all kills and data for traps in one place. However definitely needs some work.

App should really better capability to be used offline (by storing data and kills on device). It’s painful to be in a no-service area and not have full functionality. All data should be saved on phone and then later synced with cloud later.

Shared trappers should be able to have full control over traps like the owner. Shared trappers should be able to changed the name and location of traps. I myself have 30 traps and have other people that check them as well as myself. Some times traps need to be moved. And this can’t be changed by shared trappers. I love to see this changed, or to have the option (when sharing) to give shared trappers full control or minimum.

I have recently started to see an issue when replacing lure offline. Once the lure is replaced through the app, the location of the trap changes to a small island in the Pacific Ocean. I have no idea why.

Other than those issues the app works well and makes trapping fun and easy. Hope to see come updates and changes soon.

Response from developer

Thanks Petey! Great to hear that Chirp is making life easier for you and loved hearing your additional suggestions. It’s helpful to learn how you’re using Chirp in the field and what functions would make the app even better for you. Chirp is designed to work offline so we’d love to hear more from you on this - can you please email hello@goodnature.co.nz and let us know what functionality seems to be missing in a no-service area so we can clarify what is happening for you? If you can include screenshots of your trap location changing when you replace the lure we’d love to take a look at this too! You’re correct, shared users cannot relocate or rename traps at this point but this is a development we are building in after listening to customer feedback like yours so watch this space. Thanks again! Ann

Invalid user

Initial login was working. After a logout and later trying to login again it says “Invalid credentials”. Selected forgot password and indicates email has been sent. Still waiting for the email. This App has some serious problems.

Response from developer

Hi, thanks for taking the time to review Chirp. This sounds very unusual and we would love to ensure things are running smoothly for you. Can you please email us hello@goodnature.co.nz so we can take it from there? Thanks! Ann

Ok

I also want this app to work, but it’s a bit buggy. Movement of the trap is logged as a kill, making relocating it a problem. Notifications are slow to receive and then won’t go away once they are. The homepage and heat map are good ideas but add nothing, and not really any settings to play with. Not convinced about the reliability of the Bluetooth connectivity either. Trap itself seems more solid than the app.

Response from developer

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to review Chirp. If you have any issues with the performance of the app please contact us at hello@goodnature.co.nz with a screenshot if possible so we can help. Moving the trap should not be logged as a kill so drop us a line with some more information and we can resolve what’s happening in your case. Cheers - Ann

Could do better

Great idea. Two stars for potential, would def give 5 stars if app worked well. Want the app to work well. But it doesn’t, really. (Trap’s great.) My original trap location meant the vibration from wooden compost bin lid closing was recorded as ‘kills’, and the only way to correct the count is by designating those as test fires. But the app’s not letting me do that for some reason at the mo. Also, I keep getting notifications of new data dating months back, even though I’ve seen that data before and tried to deal with it by designating the ‘kill’ type. Finally, the location settings are irritating. Seems unnecessary to have location always on, and there are endless prompts if you change setting to ‘only while using’.

Response from developer

Hi, thanks for the review! We're pleased to hear you're happy with your trap and appreciate you sharing your experience with the app. Can you please get in touch if you are still receiving the historic data notifications so we can help? Some smartphones require location preferences for the Goodnature app marked as always so it can see where your trap is located. This is an iOS setting and sounds like the reason you may be receiving notifications. If you have any extra comments feel free to fire them through to us at hello@goodnature.co.nz - Thanks, Ann
