Uses push notifications for spam
I have had to disable push notifications for the bank app because Discovery also uses push alerts for competitions and promotions such as Grand Prix tickets and when they promote concerts. Push alerts from a bank app should only be about transactions or else users are trained to ignore important things from the bank and great alerts from the bank as not urgent as they could be marketing. Growth hackers in marketing overriding security best practice.

I hate you
This app is pretty mid ngl
As a bank they’re fine. I have no complaints, the app is fine too. Kind feels like the bare minimum in every respect. Not especially well designed or poorly designed. Comparing it to actually well designed apps like revolut it starts feeling less fine but whatever.
Updates
Irritating that after each update something stupid is an issue. Now need to redo photo again. Are these things tested
Purchasing online goods from the UK
The worst banking service I have experienced in my many many years as an international businessman.
Top neobank
Big fan of discovery bank since it launched.
Things I like:
Easy equities integration.
Fx bank accounts that allow me to convert, send and spend in pounds.
The cheapest pay as you transact account is more competitive on a cost basis than one might have initially thought.
Apple pay, Google wallet.
Financial analyser of your spend is really useful.
Good savings account options
Really nice colour palette and decent app that will hopefully improve and refine with time. The bank account confirmation letters, statements and proof of payment docs are all really lovely, professional looking documents that you can feel proud to send out when necessary. It also makes the app a nice place to be.
Things I don't like:
No in app chat with support staff.
Eft fees between discovery clients shouldn't be the same as sending to other banks
Certain other fees, like those to send money overseas could be more reasonable, given the low cost nature of a branchless neobank.
Misleading rewards. After using the rewards stack feature on their site to see what I could get back on my spend based on my vitality money level, it advised that I would get rewards from Woolworths as well as fuel rewards and flights if I got the discovery credit card. I got it, used it for a few months, only for the Woolworths and pick n pay options to be unavailable for my banking product on the app. When raised with support staff via twitter, they did confirm that the rewards stack calculator was wrong and that I needed to have vitality in order to get food rewards with the credit card, even though the calculator allowed me to explicitly state that I don't have vitality and still said I would get rewards with Woolies etc. Discovery's rewards are often not worth the hassle. Paying high fees up front for credit cards or full banking suites to be eligible for rewards, only to find you then need to sign up for other products with chunky fees like vitality, and then spend over a certain amount every month and achieve other targets before you reach a reward that even comes close to netting off against the fees you paid already just doesn't seem worth it. For some it may be worth it, but I found the practice of handing money over up front and then having to spend loads and jump through other hoops every month just to make your money back from the fees alone, nevermind actually get more than you paid in fees, to be not worth it. Good business model for discovery. Receive cash up front and maybe pay out a bit later. Good for business, not so good for the average consumer in SA.
My personal opinion? Stick to the cheapest, no frills no fuss pay- as-you- transact account on the white/gold colour (R10 monthly fee at time of writing), enjoy the really good apple pay feature, use the useful spend analysis tool, virtual cards and good savings account, as well as the easy equities tool. If you need an fx account then you can still open one and pay as you use it. Otherwise, you'll have everything you need for banking in SA.

ID number??
For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to join or to get this ID number! Says anyone can join but then says you need an ID number. How do I get one? Who knows! I’ve never dealt with something so complicated!
This bank looks great but I wouldn’t know because I can’t get access to it or anything. And the website provides no answers.

Charges for Fuel and Debit Order is not in keeping with your Competition
Refer to call with Orabile. Call Ref 7711516. A manager was supposed to call me yesterday and has not done so as yet.
I like Discovery for the professional call center. However I hate dealing with my current Banker Standard Bank as these 5 big banks are Oligopolies. However I didn’t know you charge interest in Debit orders and Fuel. Standard Bank does not charge interest on Fuel. Have a look at my monthly business. I always pay my accounts fully every month and save on any interest charges. I will now only use Standard Bank if the interest on the Sun Vacation club interest for the past 12 months are not reversed.
Get a Senior Manager to call me about this.
Kind Regards.
