Not Quite Up to Scratch Yet
Crouton Recipe manager is in a quite good place, but it is not up to scratch yet. Even with the Crouton Plus add-on, I could not easily import recipes from other apps, and importing photos was nigh on impossible without saving the photo to disk and adding the photos from there. While good in some features, the tags, folders & meal types etc need a fair amount of work to make it workable. There is no perfect recipe app that I know of, but one or two of them are way ahead of Crouton.

Great app!
Great app, love all of the features, especially recipe import.
There is one major feature missing IMHO - allow steps to have images (one or multiple) and obviously this being supported via import. For more technical recipes very often steps are supported by images online, would be cool to be able to add that and import that.

My compliments to the chef
Whoever cooked this app is a genius. I’ve tried umpteen different recipe related apps. This is the only one that successfully captures recipes from websites and photos without corrections. Lots of them are quite good and almost good, but none matches crouton for eliminating the tidy ups altogether. It is fantastic. (And cheaper than a lot of the others too). I have zero affiliation to the company, I’m just genuinely impressed at how good the app is.

Привет👋увидел спасибо тебе большое выручилANZ
Disappointing
The app is great. However, nowhere that I can see, does it indicate that after 5 recipes you have to pay $20 to continue adding recipes. It would be a kindness to indicate this limitation beforehand.

Appreciate the feedback! I’ll have a think about how I can make this more clear
What an App should be!
This app deserves 10 stars. The UI is pleasing to look at and intuitive to navigate. It is easy to add and edit recipes. The accuracy of import is almost always spot on. Reading from an image never ceases to blow my mind!! The mealplan section is straight-forward and easy to manage. Recipe mode makes it SUPER easy to follow your recipe... and the added "wink left / wink right" to move to the next step is AWESOME (because everyone knows, while you're cooking, your hands end up covered in food that you don't want on your screens!). The developer(s?) have taken great care to make this app the best it can be. They've even responded to a feedback suggestion I submitted for improving the grocery list section! Well done y'all!

The best recipe app with NO subscription!!
I almost never review apps, but Crouton is special. This is as independent-developer as apps get: it's just one guy. He saw a gap, figured out how to fill it, and single-handedly delivered a solution. Pretty incredible.
But cool story aside, the app itself is fantastic! It's full of great features to facilitate easy organization and accessibility, like tag-based smart folders, a "play" mode for viewing recipes in step-by-step fullscreen, different options for color-coding steps — I love the "rainbow" setting, the randomly-assorted colors make reading/tracking through a recipe much easier on my brain — and a grocery list that auto-syncs with the Reminders iOS app. It's cute yet functional, simple yet robust, and overall very impressive.
But in the end, what made me choose Crouton over the dozens of other apps on the market: IT'S NOT A SUBSCRIPTION!! In this capitalist nightmare — where companies force you to rent the products & services that facilitate the most basic facets of your life for upwards of $10/month a piece — this is an app you can still actually *buy*, once, and then you just own it? Forever? You don't have to ongoingly lease your own recipes?? Crazy concept, I know. But it's that kind of business integrity that made this app the unequivocal winner in my book.
Keep doin' what you're doin', Devin! You're the best!

Crouton
Just getting started and navigating through thanks
The only Recipe App You’ll Need
After having this app for almost a week, I can say it’s the best app you can get compared to the other popular apps. The design is modern and easy to navigate (improves experience when cooking). It also has hands free mode where you can use your eyes to navigate through the recipe too! Developer has fast customer service responses and the experience is top tier. Definitely worth trying it out.

VoiceOver issues now resolved
VoiceOver issues originally reported in early June but resolved within four days after leaving one star review. I am now happy to give 5 star rating for an app which functions on simplicity itself. Sometimes, just making something simple and straightforward to use can make all the difference. it has further sophisticated scanning features which I have not had the opportunity to examine with VoiceOver, however, I would only normally expect scanning features of any app to operate correctly, if it was originally designed for VoiceOver in the first instance. Additionally, it has a hands-free method of advancing to the next screen of baking instructions, very handy when your hands may be covered in flower etc. The app also benefits from a straightforward workflow also.

Not incapable or reluctant, this is on my priority list but have had to deal with a few other things first. Update coming soon! Update: this should be improved in the latest release
