  • Masterpiece

First time reviewing an Apple Arcade game but this one deserves it. As an enjoyable as the game mechanics are in this, I would say it’s standout here is the story and the message. Which is impressive considering I don’t think this was heavily advertised and a nice surprise. Grab some headphones make some time and immerse yourself in this gem.

  • Greatest game where you play as an animal

This game has some of the greatest art designs ever. The graphics are all hand drawn and it’s up there with Cuphead and Gris. The creators of old man’s journey and ELOH really hit their stride with this. The swinging mechanics and controls are easy. This alone is a reason to get Apple Arcade. With an environmental message that made sense and I really want to help the gibbons now. This game is a must-play.

  • Great game

I love this game when I finished it I was happy that I could keep playing even tho it shows how harsh humanity is and shows an awareness is just thrilling to me that someone would do this and turn it into a game! I didn’t even know gibbons were a real animal I thought it was just a weird name for a monkey game but I searched it up after I finished the game and they are so cute and I didn’t even know they were something in the real world or that their endangered thank for raising an awareness 🙏

  • Very fun!

This is a very fun game, I love that you have yellow, purple, and pink monkey and once you’re done with the game you can try and free all the animals. It gives you something to do instead of finish the game and delete it. I got this game on my phone and my iPad and I completed both in a day and now I’m on the free all the animals. I hope you can add another story where purple meets a baby monkey so it could be like yellow, pink, and purple but pink, purple, and orange or something like that. I can’t wait for more stuff that you add! I definitely recommend this game, I knew I’d like it before it came out.

  • Just about perfect

This game is so wonderfully well made across all measures of game design.

The difficulty is balanced just so, sitting you comfortably where you are both rewarded and challenged in just the right amount.

Levels are very well designed so that when you play well you feel you are flying, but when you make mistakes there’s something to catch you.

The game teaches you how to play in a way that’s easy to understand, but not intrusive.

The story of the game is told with subtlety but great impact, so the events and hazards of the game create a much stronger impact than they might in another game.

And of course the art is beautiful from start to finish.

    Wonderful game.

  • Beautiful and relaxing

The story element is, well, heartbreaking. Beyond that, as a game, this is a gorgeous piece of work. The hand painted backgrounds are lush and inviting, filled with bustle and life. The music and sound work create the perfect atmosphere, and the animation is smooth and natural.

The main gameplay element is deeply satisfying. Reminds me more than a little of the Alto games which I mean as high praise. This is in no way an attempt to ape… hehehe… those games. But they capture something of the same simple joy.

  • Beautiful

The animation is STUNNING in this app, the story is heartbreaking I 100% recommend this for anyone who loves simple games with cute animation.
  • Couldn’t get the touch controls to feel good

Played for 30 mins on an iPad and the touch controls just never clicked. I never got when or why to double press or release. Falling to the ground seems to make you stay there and you just walk slowly. Releasing from branch timing also never clicked. Might be a fun game with a controller but touch controls get it a low score from me

Hi there! Sorry to hear you are having troubles getting into the flow! We know our control scheme can take some getting used to, but have found that, over time, most playtesters have grown into it and really liked it afterwards. If you still have the motivation, maybe it clicks when you try again? Some spsecific tips for you: - You can also play by mostly swinging and ignore running while Pink is in the trees. - Focusing just on one finger (and swinging) might help you get the timing right. - If you fall on the ground, press two fingers to run faster. Release to jump. - If you have a XBox, PlayStation, Nimbus or other Bluetooth controller, you can also play with those on your iOS device. Best, Felix
  • Great idea, needs some polish

I like the idea and the game visuals. However
    - I think the swinging mechanic needs more work. It says release before the last swing but I think it means ‘just after’. Either way, at least for me, it didn’t feel natural and I could get it to work consistently on iPhone or iPad. I guess you are going for an alto adventure type feel but for me it feels a bit frustrating rather than natural.
    - the gibbon run feels clunky
    - it just takes too long to get to the point. I assume there’ll be some interaction with humans cutting down trees, but after playing for what felt like 20-30 mins I’d only just reached the human settlements and nothing much happened. I feel bad saying it but it just feels a bit boring so far. I think alto works because there’s more variation in how you can move, the control feels natural and the scenery changes a lot, none of which seem to be in place.
But I like the idea so I hope it’s a success!

Hi there! Thank you for trying Gibbon out and for your honest feedback! Sorry to hear you are having troubles getting into the flow, though. We know our control scheme can take some getting used to, but have found that, over time, most playtesters have grown into it and really liked it afterwards. If you still have the motivation, maybe it clicks when you try again? Some specific tips for you: - Yes, we do mean BEFORE. You can release a bit before the end of a branch and Pink will still finish that last handhold and launch at the perfect angle. - It could be that you stopped just a bit before you a lot of things will change. It'd make me glad if you gave it another chance! Best, Felix
