Looks fancy but unreliable connection

Update: I sent an email to BBQ Guru and got a very quick response. Apparently the app doesn’t like both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on at the same time. They told me to connect to Wi-Fi and then select Disconnect from Bluetooth in the app. I did that and it is rock steady. It no longer drops Wi-Fi. I’m changing my review to 4 stars. Why not five? Because it’d been nice to know before I ruined a brisket. I was informed an iPhone app update is soon to be released. Hopefully it’ll address this. I have version 3.5.4.

I’ve got a brisket on as I type this. First cook with the UltraQ. The Wi-Fi connection has dropped off 3 time, temperature has dropped off twice and what should be a breeze per advertisement has become equivalent to babysitting a 2-year old. You never know quite what the errant child is going to do next. The temperature profile looks like the California crashing surf. No, the dampers are not to far open. The interface looks fancy but don’t waste your money.

Thank you for your updated review! We are glad are team was able to help you resolve this issue.

Wifi is Unreliable

Cannot get the wifi to connect and stay connected reliably. I’m logged on, wifi is supposedly connected…sometimes I get the wifi symbol but most of the time I don’t. And when Bluetooth drops the temperature does not update so I know it’s not connected even though I’m logged in and wifi is supposedly connected and the light is purple.

WiFi DOES NOT WORK. AVOID THIS PRODUCT!!!

Bluetooth connection works fine but WiFi does not work at all. Unless you stay within 30’ of your bbq, this product is useless. This has been a problem for a long time but there have been no upgrades in almost a year. Complete waste of money!

Works fine for local control. Terrible for tracking and graphing

Can’t connect to the share my cook site. The help videos and pages are out of date. Like others this is killing what should be a fun experience.

Wifi

I bought the ultra q with hopes of Wi-Fi control. I have done everything the app tutorial said to do, however the app does not work as the video shows. A little help from the developer to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Does what I need it to do

Loving this controller and app so far. I have the same Wi-Fi issues that everyone else complained about but just using the Bluetooth is all I need for now and it works very well. Cooks have definitely been leveled up because of this device.

Bad Software or Bad Hardware

I bought an UltraQ strictly because of its remote access capabilities, as I already own a DigiQ The WiFi never works in the app. The purple light shows on the device, but the share my cook option is not showing on the app — yes, I am logged in. This makes me think the remote connectivity issues are software or cloud related, but, after speaking to someone around a month ago, it seems that the customer service has disappeared. I have been calling and emailing for a week with no response. When I spoke to someone a month ago, who was super sympathetic and helpful, she suggested some troubleshooting and call back if this did not solve the problem. Once I got around to trying her suggestions, I found the the problem still persisted. Now the company provides no response, as if no one is there. When you call, the message used to say something along the line of please wait while an available customer service agent can help. Now it just says that they cannot take your call. Maybe they have packed up and left town.

Awful App Reliability

Struggling to understand how this app adds any value. The handoff to WiFi is awful and doesn’t stay connected. As well, there’s no way for me to monitor and record my cook progress with reliability. My first cook I was able to leverage a 3rd party to record my cook, but for some reason that’s not available within the app interface any longer (even when connected to WiFi). Speaking of which, I was cooking a brisket this weekend and connected to WiFi because I was leaving my house to do some shopping with the wife. During the cook the application must have crashed while I was out and the ambient temp dropped to close to air temperature before I realized and destroyed my cook. I’ve done four cooks in the past week and I have to same issue with the WiFi connectivity and app constantly crashing. MAJOR BUYERS REMORSE.

Hi. We sincerely apologize for the Wi-Fi connectivity issues you've had with the app. Please reach out to us at customerservice@thebbqguru.com so we can try and resolve this for you. I did want to note that you can still record your cook in ShareMyCook via the app by clicking on the blue start recording cook button on the app's homepage.

WiFi never works

The share my cook button hardly ever appears after logging into share my cook and connecting to WiFi. I put a mesh satellite right next to it so it’s not a WiFi issue. When it works it’s great. Not so much today

Disappointed!!

I’ve been a long time user of your products. Upgraded to the Wi-Fi version recently knows excited to use it. This app is absolutely rudimentary. It’s not intuitive, can’t set numerous alarms, the Wi-Fi is sketchy at best and just crashes occasionally. You clearly no barbecue but unfortunately not app development.

Also how about some Alexa integration?
