The app needs serious help

This app needs serious work. It’s poorly designed, clunky, and doesn’t offer a way of seeing your temperatures plotted on a graph over time. The user guide describes a manual setting which is totally absent from the app. As others have noted in their reviews, the app won’t connect to WiFi; so you must remain within Bluetooth range to control the computer.
It’s a real shame that a product that costs $450 has such a poorly designed user interface.

Designed By Engineers

Terrible interface. Inconsistent connectivity. The whole product line seems like a hobby shop effort. Frustrating when you need to focus on the cook, not the technology. I’ve been a loyal customer for many, many years. I hold out hope the software will catch up and they’ll pay a developer to get it right. Still not right.

Awesome Device

I got the Ultra Q for Christmas and was excited to learn you have an app to control it. The only downside is you cannot graph your cooks as you can with other software.

Beware CyberQ owners

Do not update. The latest update broke the connection with the app and the CyberQ cloud. Even though it wasn’t the greatest when it did work, it was better than logging onto the website sharemycook and changing the settings. Their devices would be more mainstream if they had a decent developer. It’s not the early 2000’s, apps should not perform so terribly. And please bring back legacy support

Has potential but customer service is terrible

I purchased the Ultra unit for no other reason than I wanted wifi

I have several issues with my device, wifi won’t stay connected, unit occasionally goes unresponsive, the pit temp resets itself to zero, my pit probe always reads 9 degrees lower than the 3 food probes that are all within 1 degree

I contact customer service an a week later I received a generic message to troubleshoot. I checked the items on the email but it didn’t fix the issues. I then replied the customer service on the 15th July and still 2 weeks later I have had NO REPLY

Product is Terrible

I have been a loyal fan since the CyberQ first came out. I would always use PitPal with the CyberQ to monitor my cooks while I was away from home. When BBQ Guru made the switch to cloud service, PitPal no longer worked for me. So I decided to make the switch to the UltraQ when they first launched it. App works great while you are on your home WiFi, but as soon as you leave the UltraQ drops offline and you are no longer able to monitor your cook. Customer Service is terrible all they tell you to do is reset the device, we have a new firmware out. It’s been a year and I’m still having the same issue. Stay Away from BBQ Guru if you need to monitor your cooks away from home!!! I work 12 hours shifts and usually start my cooks before going to work, and then when I get there I have no idea what my Green Egg is doing or if my meat is overcooked.

Response from developer

Hello. I am so very sorry to hear this was your experience with our app and team. This Wi-Fi issue should not be happening. We really want to make this right. Please give us a call and ask to speak to tech support so we can get figure out what that issue is and get it resolved.

Latest upgrade has made it worse

My first time using this app, I could get wifi connection and it worked pretty well.
This time, the cooking timer is not working at all, I cannot connect to wifi and cannot configure anything.
As much as I like the concept, your app needs some serious adjustment and your knowledge base articles have completely been emptied and are useless now making it even harder to try and fix the issues.
You can really do better than this.

After additional feedback from the developer and additional fiddling/testing after my initial review it worked. I still lost my cooking session as the app toggles between wifi and Bluetooth but at least it connected.
The cook timer on the app is still not running.
I do appreciate the response from the developers though. That is positive and engaging.

If you are still experiencing issues please reach out to us at customerservice@thebbqguru.com so we can get this resolved immediately.

Broken Again

I wish didn’t have my apps auto update. 2.1.0 does not work for me. I can no longer access the settings (missing button) and there is no way to connect via WiFi. I’ve deleted the app, reinstalled, and restarted iPhone, nothing fixes the issues.

Solid app

Just got my Ultra Q and used the app for the first time. It worked well and made my stress level lower since I didn’t have to keep as close an eye on things. My only issue is that I’d occasionally have to restart the app to sync it back up with the controller. Once I figured that out it I had no issues. Would highly recommend!

Truly awful

The prior version of this app was bad. It barely worked, constantly froze, and had to be restarted. The new version is worse somehow. It only gives an initial temperature reading when the app is first opened. After that it never updates the temperature reading unless I exit the app and re open it again. The first version would freeze after a couple hours without fail, but at least it kept track of the temperature in between freezing and needing to be restarted.
