  • Actual skill-based minesweeper

My problem with minesweeper was always that you’re forced to guess. Imo, that should never be the case in a puzzle game. This variation did exactly what I wanted out of minesweeper.

If I was able to request one change to this app, it would be to add an ability to place “dummy flags”. When nothing on the board is jumping out at me as a guaranteed bomb/free cell, I’ll place down some flags as a “non-commital guess” and see what the board looks like with that permutation. Sometimes, I’ll reach a paradox that proves the starting “guess” can’t be possible so I know a flag cannot be there and can uncover that cell.

Occasionally though while doing this strategy, I’ll missclick somewhere on the board (which is easy to do with thumbs on a touch screen) which can cause my “non-commitall guesses” to be committed. Which can result me in losing the game off a missclick.

If we had a way to place “dummy flags” that have a different colour and/or shape (maybe a question mark), we could use this strategy for visualizing the board in different possible configurations without being at risk of a missclick losing the game.

    Thank you!

  • Makes you better at the game!

When you *know* there’s a solution, you are forced to learn patterns you may have missed in normal minesweeper. Thus this makes you better at the game! There is a whole class of probability problems which are necessarily excluded from this game, but that’s okay.
  • Classic game

Classic game. Very addictive. But the controls are finicky sometimes. It’s very frustrating to lose a string of perfect games because the app didn’t decides the long-touch you did to flag a tile was actually a short tap instead. Kaboom. Except my finger is usually still right where I put it. Oh well. Fun game nevertheless. But it would be nice if it only blew me up when I deserved it.

  • Great app but…

I love this app and it makes minesweeper so much more fun. But could you please please please show us the time average only for perfect games when we get one for the daily game. If I get a perfect game in seven minutes and the average is four minutes it takes away some of my satisfaction from getting the perfect game because it makes me feel slow even though I don’t know how long those people would have taken if it was only perfect games.

  • Well conceived

This take on the old mine game actually improves on the original. While most of these games in the App Store are a lazy rip-off with no functionality and worse game mechanics than the original, the developer of this gem actually put some thought into it. I sense they must be a fan of the game :-)
Simple yet powerful, I highly recommend Mineswifter.

  • Wow, finally

I played the free version and it was so brilliant I felt bad not paying for it so I did. I haven’t even tried it yet but based on the other reviews, I’m sure it will be great. The one game I played so far on the hardest mode available was solvable but not easy. I got stuck at a few points and questioned whether it was really solvable but decided to try and logic it out and figured out that I could.

I found the flagging and uncovering function to be a tiny bit clunky but apparently that’s customizable in the paid version so I’m sure I’ll manage. It was nonetheless a clever scheme and the biggest issues were the limitations of the phone rather than the app. I’ll try the pinch to zoom and see how I like it.

It is refreshing to be able to play minesweeper and devote your full intelligence to the puzzle instead of just clicking through a 99 mine field that will inevitably rely on guessing right at multiple points. This app is a gem.

  • Best minesweeper

Being able to know the game won’t end in a stupid 50/50 is so relieving. I wish the game board had some padding around the outside though as sometimes I have difficulty clicking on the squares at the edge of the board.
  • Get rid of new game confirmation!

Get rid of new game confirmation!
Otherwise an excellent game, could be 5stars were it not for the double click process to start a new game..
  • Unsolvable sometimes?

I have had several circumstances where a guess needs to be made to continue the game. I used the hint feature to make sure there was not a solution but it brought me to a tile that could not be figured out without using hint.

(Edit: I’m an idiot it was solvable)

    Developer Response

Hi there, if you ever get stuck feel free to take a screenshot and send it to me by email or on Twitter – I'll be more than happy to help! The hint system uses a standard constraint-based Minesweeper board solver and only looks at the revealed numbers to find mines and safe spots.
  • Only missing board customization

Good UI, very responsive, daily maps are fun. Just wish it had a customizable board.
