  • Syncing with iCloud is a game changer

I’ve been an avid user of RSS newsreaders for years, and this app is the best I’ve ever used. When the developer added iCloud syncing, I was able to unsubscribe from a subscription RSS aggregation service, which saved me a lot of money. Syncing via iCloud continues to work great. I’m encouraged that the developer recently released an update, and I hope this app continues to be developed. I request that the developer enable the iPad app to be used on Apple Vision Pro.

Syncing via iCloud continues to work great. It is with some sadness that I see that the developer hasn’t released an update for this app in a long time. I would love to be able to use this app with my Apple Vision Pro, even if it is the iPad version.

  • Keep Calm and Download NetNewsWire

Reeder is the most intuitive and user friendly RSS reader available. I happily upgraded each version since the original in 2010. Stuck with it through the rocky iOS and Mac universal transitions. Even continued to use Reeder 5 when it couldn’t handle iCloud syncing between devices, cause it could pull Reddit feeds. But it’s time to move on.

Reeder 5 hasn’t been updated in over a year (5.4). The developer’s last post on Mastodon was in January 2023. Hiatus? New version coming? Not sure. But I urge everyone to try out NetNewsWire in the meantime. It isn’t as refined and customizable as Reeder, but it’s universal and handles iCloud syncing like a dream.

  • So clean and noninvasive

This app took me a short minute to figure out but that seems to be a fault of the sites you may try to follow, some of them require a little more digging to find the RSS link to add their feeds to the app.
The app is very worth the up front cost to have a custom newsfeed that won’t shove its own ads in your face or push additional feeds that you didn’t ask for.

  • Great RSS app

I’ve used the app for years to follow blogs. A few months as go I added a separate account just to follow a few news sources. It’s greatly simplified getting the news. I scroll through the feed to see the headlines and read the articles I want. I have it set to mark as read in scroll, and then have the new account set to delete read items after a day. It’s a quick way to see the news, and I don’t have to see all the ads on news websites. If the rss feed for a source doesn’t include the whole article, I have it set to open in reader view. Thanks for this great app!

  • One of my most used apps, but I’ve got a problem…

Something happened to the Twitter integration yesterday. It suddenly stopped syncing tweets. I realized that I haven’t seen any in over 24 hours. While investigating I tried logging out of Twitter in the app, but can’t get back to the login. It acts like it tries and then immediately fails to load a login screen. The other service login screens seem to appear normally though.

  • Developer has abandoned app.

Regrettably, it would seem that the developer has abandoned Reeder. He is completely unresponsive to users who have reported major issues with Reeder.

At one point in time, this app used to be the best in class RSS reader on iOS; now, it’s riddled with show-stopping bugs and is completely unusable. As just three examples: background sync doesn’t work at all; mark all as read doesn’t work at all; and mark read on open, under a tag, always displays empty/missing content.

I would recommend Unread or Fiery Feeds instead. Those apps have a dev that actually care about maintaining their apps and both of them have been updated within the last two weeks, unlike Reeder which hasn’t been touched in many months.

  • Awesome app

Its an awesome app with very clean minimal yet very good looking ui with subtle animations. One thing I wish it had: ability to show only 1 or 2 lines from feed title. Some of these feeds have very long titles and they take up a lot of space to show it entirely.
  • Almost amazing

Would be 5 stars if articles had word count or estimated reading time like Matter and Readwise competitor apps. Despite missing that key feature, the app is still really good and well worth the money. I use it almost daily.
  • Good RSS reader

It’s pretty and works well. Only complaint is that if you’re scrolling through a list when it refreshes, you’ll lose you spot. Sounds little now but let that happen every day and it gets super annoying.
