  • Stagnant Gacha TNG Game

The developers of this game seem to largely be knowledgable of TNG lore, less so of Discovery, and next to nothing about DS9 or Voyager. (There are characters from Enterprise, Picard and Strange New Worlds, but they don't figure into the storyline at all.) Worf looks like the TNG Worf, but sometimes acts like the DS9 Worf. He knows Odo but doesn't seem to know Martok at all. He knows Sisko, but Sisko doesn't seem to know him. I know the developers might wave their hands and say this is a time travel story, so we aren't necessarily getting the versions of these people from the prime universe, but it just feels like lazy research and writing. The character choices are sometimes weird. There are 4 versions of Picard, but no Lore or Wesley Crusher. We get Thadiun, the guy who turned out not to be Picard's son and only appeared in one episdoe of TNG, while there are other major characters (like Captain Archer) who aren't included.

This is designed to be a casino type gacha game like Raid: Shadow Legends or Summoners War. Of course, a gacha game doesn't work within the Apple Arcade business model. Gacha games require third-party payment methods from impatient people who don't want to work through games, so the developers took their game over to Steam and apparently stopped adding new content here. Unfortunately, Steam is only offering the newer version for play on Windows.

  • Basic Waste of Time

I like this game. However, its license has been sold to Steam, so it looks like it won't receive any updates on Apple Arcade anymore. I imagine the game will probably be pulled from Apple Arcade after its license runs out. If that happens, everyone's progress on Apple Arcade will probably be lost. What's worse, it looks like Steam, while offering the game for free, is only going to produce it for Windows OS, so that basically screws over Apple users. I don't know if all the bugs in this game have to do with developers' claims that it's difficult to develop games for Apple. It kind of seems like laziness on developers' part, but what can you do? It also looks like the developers wanted this to be a gacha game in the first place so they could make money hand over fist, but that's just not a genre Apple accommodates (and good for them). If you play something like Raid: Shadow Legends or Summoners War, you'll see that Star Trek Legends is modeled after those kinds of games.

  • Unfinished Product

It's fun seeing all these characrters incorporated into a story that draws upon material from the prime universe. However, it seems this game was released before it was finished. Worf looks like mid-series TNG Worf, but sometimes he acts like the DS9 Worf (he knows Odo very well) but other times like the TNG Worf (he doesn't seem to know Martok at all). During one mission, Kirk shows up out of nowhere to flirt with a Klingon woman. I don't know where he came from. He certainly isn't on my crew roster, and there aren't any doubles of him anywhere else in that storyline. Some of the character choices are odd, too. We get 4 versions of Picard (one of which is Dixon Hill!) and his one-shot fake pirate son, but no Wesley Crusher, Rom, Nog, Ezri Dax, or Lore.

This game is really designed to promote the newer Paramount Plus Trek series, with the now-cancelled Discovery at the center of things.

  • Good game, a few bugs

The game is enjoyable. Once you have a handful of characters that produce shields (Seven of Nine, Geordi), other characters with strong attacks and a good doctor, it becomes rather easy. It’s fun to see what each character is capable of. Amazing attention to detail. Sulu’s illustration looks super wonky.

    It has a few bugs:
•there’s no way to see balance of power cells to update particles
•even with music and sound off, some scenes have sounds play (shuttle landing/taking off in background, flying drones scanning) and it will still play the level up swoosh.

  • Good game, bad AI

My only complaint is how stupid characters play when using the auto-play feature. It shouldn’t be too hard to implement some logic like maybe the doctor should heal the person about to be defeated instead of the one with full health and thousands of shields. Or maybe a warrior shouldn’t taunt a whole other squad when they have no hit points. It’s amazing how many times I just see my team destroyed because of the dumbest decisions. It’s almost like the players choose random moves against random targets.

Another great scenario, 2 players remaining, both almost defeated - the next attack will win the round. And they’ll go back and forth doing up morale or tech increase and cleans and whatever… 4 rounds go back and forth before one of the characters deals 5hp and wins the round; just the simplest of logic would be great!

  • Fun, but needed more QA and UI design attention

Good points: good writing, decent turn-based combat system. Bad points: many minor bugs in the non-combat parts of the game, cumbersome non-combat UI designs (the store is especially annoying). Fortunately, virtually all the bugs I’ve seen are cosmetic UI glitches in information presentation, and have simple workarounds or can be ignored; the combat parts of the game are pretty solid, with just some annoying finickyness around targeting (on iPad, I’d hate to play on a smaller iPhone screen). I’ve only seen one or two cases where bugs impacted gameplay, in many hours of play. Combat can feel too tedious if you don’t turn up the speed setting; it’s fun to watch for a while, but 1x speed is just annoying after a while. The characters have a pretty interesting range of powers, though it’s pretty easy to play through the entire game with just the same crew, with one substitution- there’s definitely a “winning” crew for the missions. PVP teams from other players only have a few more common variants, though I’ve seen a few very different, and successful, teams. The game feels like it was originally designed for in-app purchases like the developer’s other ST: Timelines game (which is chock full of annoying upsell ads). Fortunately, as an Apple Arcade title, it has none of that, and I probably wouldn’t play it if it were a non-Arcade title.

  • Great game but PvP is a joke unless you like Kirk

I legitimately love this game however it has some issues which preclude me from giving it 5 stars. 1st the pvp it's insane how over powered Kirk is. Like any player I. The 5 thousands has to have him and at 3800 power he can take down an entire team in the 5000 that's utterly ridiculous!!!! Also there how the power for each character is dictated. Also how many times you can change the team you face in pvp is busted. I suppose my biggest complaint is Kirk is a crap character and William shatner is a horrible actor and I'd like some options that don't include him for a viable pvp team. Thanks

  • The definition of tedium

I never give 1 star reviews but this game deserves it.

I gave it time. I progressed along. It’s a gatcha game with a high degree of repetitiveness. Don’t get me wrong. Doing something over and over can be soothing. This was more aggravating.

In order to progress through the Missions you must play each level multiple times. This wouldn’t be so bad, except that you must do it in normal, advanced and expert mode. I usually check the combat difficulty and if it’s anything below high I just close my eyes through it to save myself from going completely bonkers with the repetitiveness.

There isn’t enough gameplay in the rest of the game to make it worthwhile. Once you figure out who the top four are that win most pvp battles there is zero challenge.

There aren’t many playable characters to make the gatcha system engaging in any way.

The randomized particles are potentially the only interesting part in an otherwise tedious game, because you are never guaranteed to get good stats. It’s a hint of surprise in a grind fest.

It’s interesting to choose what particles to upgrade and pick the best bridge crew to get universal stat bonuses I guess. In that way it does deserve at least one star.

Meh. Don’t waste your time like I did.

  • Both like and dislike

The complexity of tactical options is really interesting. Inability to see the full stats of the teams I assemble, in one place, frustrating. I want to be strategic about plus-up acquisition, but cannot see cumulative inventory of available supplies or crew stats easily, so it is hard to decide whether to forego a bonus now for a bigger bonus later or not. Store purchase process overly clunky, and in general the app asks user to "continue" far more often than is needed. PVP - Shouldn't there be some random chance as to who goes first? Still looking for speed plus-ups.
