  • Deceiving.

This game was fantastic and kept me interested until I spelled my TENTH word- then I was asked to pay .99c/month or SEVEN DOLLARS for the whole game. Major mood downer. Please move on and find your peace somewhere else until this issue is fixed. 🤍🙏🏻

Thanks for sharing your experience! Sorry it was such an unexpected screen We spend an hour each day creating a new puzzle (designing the puzzle, writing definitions, stories, fact-finding and editing the candidate word list). We do, unfortunately, need to charge something to allow us to spend time every day making puzzles. Hopefully we can find a better way to communicate it! Thanks again for your feedback
  • Deleted Gameplay

I super liked this game until it deleted ALL of my progress! It’s like I never played before. Ridiculous.

Thank you for reporting this! It must be very frustrating and your review has prompted us to look into it. We'll issue a fix as soon as we can, most of your progress (i.e., previous days) should be safe on your device
  • Pretty fun

I’m not that good at word games but this is nice. I do wish there was a cheaper way to go past the 10 word limit. A subscription seems a little weird for this in my opinion. I wouldn’t mind buying this for like $3 or something.

    Developer Response

Thank you for your review! We offer the game as a subscription because my partner and I spend each night creating a new puzzle (they manually edited and definitions are written for each day). This means that if we're still creating puzzles years from now, we may not be able to support the game if we only offer a one-time purchase. We will be offering free puzzle-packs from time-to-time, and these will stick around for a few weeks. We hope you enjoy them when you have the time

Thank you for your wonderful review! We might select some of our favourites one day to re-publish on a separate screen
  • Don’t even need to play

The developers responsiveness and enthusiasm alone is what sold me on this game. I haven’t played a second of it but I’m sure it’s wonderful because this dev’s passion is so evident in their interaction. 10/5

Thank you! We are pretty enthusiastic about words :)
  • Wonderful game

I love Retrogram! The puzzles are fun and challenging, with a great interface and fun extras like cheeky word definitions, words of encouragement, and the ability to sync the game with friends over FaceTime. Love the retro vibe. Playing Retrogram has become a very enjoyable daily routine that I look forward to. Highly recommend subscribing to get the daily puzzle!

  • Well-crafted game with incomplete puzzles

The design and interface of this game are simple and attractive, and the puzzles are challenging enough to keep me coming back. However, almost every day I find words (that are real and sufficiently common) that aren’t recognized by the game. It is very frustrating to come up with a good word and then be told it isn’t valid. It’s almost frustrating enough to make me stop playing, but I haven’t given it up yet. Perhaps an in-game dispute method to check other words would help with this problem, but might make too much work for the developer(s).

Update: in the latest version (1.0.8) you can now send us feedback, tap on the book icon to see your word list, then tap the question mark ("?") button to get to help. At the bottom you can contact us if we have missed a word! Thank you for your feedback, and sorry about your frustration!  We exclude words for a number of reasons. First we exclude place names and demonyms (names of groups of people from places, e.g., "India" and "Indian"). Words which are too technical (e.g., "titrate", but we would accept more common chemistry terms). Or words difficult to use in a sentence (e.g., "blubberer", where "blubber" would be accepted). We also exclude words of rare flora and fauna (e.g., "acara," a fish, would be excluded but "tiger" would be included).  That said, an in-game feedback mechanism is something we will be putting in. For now please consider emailing the words you'd like to suggest to retrogram.app@gmail.com — we may well have missed them and would love to ensure we are including everything we can!
  • Great Game!

The retro look of the game is awesome and it’s now become a word game I look forward to playing regularly. The constant updates are nice to see rather than a game that isn’t worked on. I must admit some words are very hard to figure out but that’s part of the fun.

Thank you! Your review is wonderfully motivating. We love crafting puzzles each night and are so glad you're enjoying them Sorry about the hard ones! We're still working out the difficulty curve but our plan is: easy on Mondays, getting harder through to Friday and Saturday. Sunday is random chance
  • A new daily “fix”

My wife and I really enjoy word games and this is perhaps our favorite ever! We look forward to the new puzzle every day and after about 15 minutes when we both start to struggle we pool our words and work toward the “Wizard” level score together.

Besides the nature of the word finding (which to be honest is similar to many other word games we have played), we really like the game’s retro aesthetics and the sometimes clever and humorous word definition each puzzle provides for a subset of the found words. Also, being able to play just one puzzle a day keeps it fresh (yes, we purchased the “Daily Puzzle” subscription).

  • New spin on an old fav

Great interface and love that you can use the letters more than once. The definitions are also pretty hilarious, which sets it apart from other word games
