Awesome idea, but database seems useless
HOWEVER- I scanned about 20 random barcodes from items ranging from Starbucks coffees to Larabar to milk and more, and not a single one of the items was in their database! I tried adding the first one manually, along with the picture and more, it was tedious and actually it closed the screen before it seems to have been added!
I gave a few stars to the developer for the concept and the beginnings of a great app, but I have little interest in essentially having to build up their database from scratch. Compared to just writing down my shopping list this is SO much more work. I hope the developer finds some place(s) with a robust database to integrate into this app and I’ll gladly add it to my personal “essentials” applications. But for now it’s failing at the one single most important thing it needs in order to have value to end users. I was to point and click and just tell it how many I have remaining of such items and how many I want to maintain.
Kudos for the progress- now get yourself a database with as little need to “manually” enter anything as possible and this can be a winner. Check out the way Amazon and Fitness Pal are so great at determining just about anything from a barcode and that should be the target for this app.

Thank you for the feedback! We will keep these things in mind for future updates!
Great start, missing major functionality
I’ve also scanned some common items and they are not pre-populated, I’m not about to manually add my entire pantry to a database, especially when I’m not really sure where it’s being stored.
Those two features would likely be the basis of a subscription model, which I’d gladly pay a couple of bucks a month to digitally keep our pantry up to date.

Thank you for downloading Swipe Pantry! A future version 2.0 aims to include some of the features you’ve mentioned so stay tuned!
Awesome
Barcode only!
Response from developer
Thank you for trying out Swipe Pantry! I'm sorry you were disappointed in your experience. With version 1.5.0, we're introducing ability to manually add items without scanning a barcode. Please continue to reach out to us with future feature requests, issues, or feedback!
