Double sided features

Fun game and I really appreciate the “one and done” payment model for the full version unlock.

Features I especially like are:

1. Three undos per game (though sometimes I wish it would give me back my undo when I end up playing the exact same thing again lol)

2. The continuous wildcard pencil. Love the fluidity! It’s really fun to see how it shifts to make the word work as you select your final

3. The unique dictionary! I was immediately hooked into the game when it let me submit a “casual slang” word that would never have been valid in most Scrabble-type games.

Unfortunately, this unique dictionary does have a downside. Recently I have found myself frustrated when I’m playing pencil mode as I like to plan for a grand finale, but it is very hard to predict when a more obscure word will be considered valid. (For example “Provisory” is a valid word in Scrabble/Words with friends, but not Grubbins.)

A help button where you could type a hypothetical word and check if it is valid would prevent a lot of frustration.

Thank you!

Unique Dictionary

Fun game! One thing I especially liked when I first started playing was that it appears that the dictionary allows more casual/slang words than games like words with friends/Wordle. But with a unique dictionary has come a unique problem.

I enjoy planning towards a grand finally in pencil mode, as I’m sure many people do. Unfortunately, many of my recent attempts to build nine letter words have ended in frustration as words that are valid in other game dictionaries, such as “Provisory” are not recognized as valid in this one.

I don’t mind the disallowance, but I wish there was a way to check the validity of planned words without needing to painstakingly build it (especially given the limited “undos”- a mechanic I also enjoy and do not wish to disable).

TLDR: A hypothetical word validity checker would make my enjoyment of the game much higher. Is this a possibility?

very very good!!!!!!

Such a cute, funny and clever game. Loving the sound design, the art and intuitive controls. I’ve been obsessively playing it for a few days now.

Makes me happy to see it’s a local studio too!! I wish the Studio Folly team all the best <3

My only note is that I wish I could play in landscape on ipad :P

Frustrated Can Be Fun…Right?

Kudos to whoever came up with ideas for the bad Gubbins. Like the one that infests the final square before I can complete the word I had been working on for the entire round, or the one that locks a 9x9 space just as I was about to clear the entire board. You made me feel something…the feeling may have been frustration but it was exhilarating nonetheless.

I love words games and this ticked all my boxes. It’s like a single player scrabble, so the only score I have to beat is my own personal best (I swear I’m never going to get that high a score ever again, the number of bad Gubbins ruining my life are multiplying exponentially).

Very fun!!! Also supports a good cause.

Hank Green brought me here. He invested 10% into the game so that amount goes to charity. That being said the game is actually very fun. The only thing I would say would be I know how there is a "pencil mode", "classic" and "daily" however I would love a mode of just positive gubbins where it's got the pencils but also the chilies, sock puppet man, horn ect with none of the 'frustrating' gubbins like the lemon, the mushroom, or the xyz guitar.

Fun & fresh game

Great game, I look forward to my daily free play & don't mind that it's only 1 a day; like NYT word games, I think that keeps it interesting & fun instead of something you can have on demand all the time. The artwork is amazing, and the different puzzles keep it fresh as well. I have had problems with the game, like others, where going to a different app in the middle of the game (such as to respond to a text message, check a bus schedule, etc) kicked me out of the game and wouldn't let me finish, which is disappointing. I also wish there was a quick video tutorial for each gubbin to have an example of what they do. I find that the descriptions sometimes lead me to believe 1 thing, but when I play a gubbin either nothing happens, or it does something different than I expected. All in all I'd recommend this to anyone who likes word games but it could use some improvements!

Fun, but sometimes annoying

The game itself is fun, but the animations are too busy and often happen just as I’m moving a letter-so it drops in the wrong place or just doesn’t drop at all. The screen where tons of small things float all over for an entire round should be killed. Getting multiples of GUBBINS can be a pain-who can use 16 extra s? Often using the pencil gives a non-word, but you do get the points. The distribution of letters often leads to way too many consonants to actually build any words.
Try it anyway-you might like the stuff I find annoying.

Great game! Just needs some adjustments.

I’m enjoying Gubbins a lot, it just gets a little repetitive at times, and there are some balance issues with some of the gubbins. Here’s a couple of suggestions to improve the game:

- Nerf the sock gubbin. It seems completely impossible to get a high score without it.
- A new game mode. Maybe something that’s really different like some sort of little puzzle rush? Not sure, but the gameplay could use more variety, and it would be nice for some games to be a little more bite-sized.
- Differing daily boards. Maybe in the dailies, or a different game mode, the board could change size/shape, or add walls in the middle. This would vary them a lot and change the way you have to think.
- Obviously more gubbins, which I’m sure will come at some point in more packs.
Another idea for them though is to have seasonal gubbins: packs that rotates in/out based on the time of year. This way the game changes a bit throughout the year and it would be exciting when the season comes for one of your favorite seasonal gubbins!
For example, fall gubbins and Christmas gubbins! :)

Meh

It’s a pretty decent game, bland yet unique if you know what I mean. I wouldn’t say it is free, because if you want to continue playing it costs that money, and if you want to continue playing for free you’ll have to wait a while, I’m not upset about it not being free, cause hey developers need to get that bank somehow, and for the time I’ve been playing I haven’t gotten any ads so that’s good too.

Fantastic game, still on the fence of buying it in full doe.

Also there are ripoffs as the first search results when typing “GUBBINS” in the AppStore.
