m going to be critical of this game because is gave me a bundle of disappointment, This game is fairly simple move left to right, jump, and attack, with a decent variety of combinations of these controls and mechanics such as the sneak, dive, and dash attack. It’s fairly simple for the base content (zones 1-3 as I’ll call them) and a fairly decent progression of difficulty, in the end I’d find myself rating this game a 4/5 it’s an alright time, albeit a very average game but for the length of this game (about an hour and a half given that you try to get full completion) it’s alright.
It would be rated this, if it weren’t for the fundamental problems of epilogue content, as of this time, you may literally not be able to complete the game fully and it’s because of two outstanding problems, The Dojo Zone (an extra zone you can unlock) and the Achievement ‘Kanji Master’.
To start with the Dojo, most of the levels are impossible to get three stars on, not because of difficulty but because of an error that adds nonexistent orbs that show up nowhere in the level, making you always short of the full amount and leaving you with two stars, you can confirm this by watching walkthroughs of these levels and comparing the orb amounts of the level end screen, this is seen in level 1 with 54 orbs when there really should be 52
Level 3 has 57 orbs when there should be 54, if I’m correct, this occurs in all but one of the dojo levels where there are orbs so you can’t get all the stars.
Granted one may not be looking for stars, however another problem arises with Game Center Achievements. The Achievement ‘Kanji Master’ requires you to collect all the unique kanji, which are large green kanji symbols located in levels, usually hidden as ‘collectibles’ the counter for this stops at 22% which based on calculations of levels with kanji, and that two kanji are in each of these levels, you would get (59*2)*0.22 which gets you roughly 26 Kanji, or the amount you would get after completing 13 levels with Kanji in them. As the calculation shows, there are 59 levels with Kanji, and you can see if you collected all of them because it’s always a star requirement, in addition there’s an achievement below this one called ‘Kanji Lover’ which has you collect 66 Kanji, or 55% of all unique Kanji. So you are unable to grab all of the achievements for this game.
This really shouldn’t be seen as a powerful message, and it shouldn’t be used necessarily as a download or not download move, in the end it’s up to you, Personally, I think it’s a 2 star for these disappointments, on a port called shadowblade‘+’no less. Hopefully it gets fixed on day, then I’d be happy to adjust my view on this game but until then, just be aware of these problems if you plan on downloading.
