Five Bells

Great app. Will be be treated to 16 bell at midnight, New Years Eve?

The best nautical time app!

This app is the best nautical time app I’ve ever used. Even people who don’t understand nautical time appreciate the productivity/focus/time management benefits of this app. Donate to the developers to say thanks and keep them going!

FIVE BELLS Marine Watch Bells

I'm giving this Five Bells app 5 stars even though it doesn't sound the bells consistently. It works more consistently than any of the other 3 marine bells apps installed in my iPhone. I have yet to discover how to keep the «Bells On» permanently for 24 hours …

Response from developer

Thank you for the 5 Stars! Bells should work around the clock. Please contact me through the app, and I’ll do my best to get it sorted for you.

Home Sweet Home

Makes me feel like I am back leaving on our sailboat again. Also catches attention of other boaters.

Quiet time no longer works

I set the quiet time to end at 10am while my do not disturb is set to 7am in case of any important calls or emergencies, day before I was disturbed at 7 by the bells going off and found the times were reset to 0, so I reset to my usual start and end and it disturbed me again at 7. I’m going to have to set my do not disturb later until this gets fixed.
Edit: where can I contact? The developer webpage link goes to an error and there’s no other places to see on the app listing.

Response from developer

I’m really sorry you’re having problems with this, but as far as I am aware you are the only one. I can only fix issues if people contact me to let me know there is a problem, rather than through a review. This is a ‘live’ app, continuously updated when necessary - one that I use myself every day. Please contact me and I will help to get this resolved. There have been some issues with hacking attempts on the website that are in the process of being resolved. Contact can be made through ‘Contact’ on the ‘About’ screen in the app.

For Apple Watch.

Is the ships bell app available for an Apple Watch?

Response from developer

Thank you for your 5 stars. Unfortunately custom alert sounds are not a feature on Apple Watches so the app would not be able to work. If this changes, there will be a watch version.

Excellent for telling the time

Now I do not need to get my phone out to check the time during the day and the children know when it is time to leave without having to look at the clock.
The author is willing to listen to suggestions and is quick to respond.

number of bells doubled on an iPad?

I downloaded this to my iPad 8th Gen iPad, OS 15.4.1, and my iPhone 8, iOS 15.3.1. The iPhone struck 2 bells at 5 pm, the iPad struck 4 bells. Both are set to the same configurations.
I heard similar things on the iPad earlier, and was confused. But I was able to confirm it with the two different installations.

Response from developer

There have been a couple of reports of this since the update. I’m looking into why this has occurred to prevent it on future updates. In the meantime, the easiest way to ‘reset’ things, although an inconvenience (for which I apologise), seems to be to reinstall the app. If you have further problems, please contact me through the app.

Just the Ticket

I’m quite pleased with this app. I use ships bells to measure my passage through the day, to remind me to move, exercise, move on, to a different task, or just to pause and look around. The sound of the bell metal is pleasant, with a slightly extended resonance, and options for lower volume and a more minimal bell.
With some complications stemming from Focus and Notifications features of ios 15, I needed to consult with the originator of the app. I can report that his tech support is fast, helpful, and friendly.

Unhappy

Very disappointed. The clock said 7:30 and I received 3 bells. Can’t find any way to reset the bells.

No longer unhappy. Appreciate the quick response. Changed the setting and 8 bells struck appropriately a few minutes ago! Yay! Thank you!

Response from developer

7:30 in the evening will sound 3 bells using the Traditional (Royal Navy) scheme. The Simplified Scheme will sound 7 bells.
