One of the best games on the phone
This game is a great challenge, I have been playing on normal difficulty and feel like it’s the perfect balance and challenging but beatable. My favorite building is the mortar turned earthquake machine, love being able to destroy many enemies at once. Very addictive!Zorski
Excellent tower defense game
I like this version better than the original Kingdom Rush (which I also enjoy). It’s so hard to find great TD games in the App Store (Castle Creeps is another that I enjoyed).
Imaginative levels with lovely animation. Lots of replayability, as each level has 3 challenges once you unlock them after beating the regular battle mode.
It’s fun discovering the special hero abilities and deciding which ones to use for a given level.
There are some issues that would make it better. Why are most of the heroes locked until after you beat all the main levels, instead of progressively unlocking them? Why are most of the heroes useless? I enjoy trying them out, but end up going back to the same ones that actually help defeat levels.
All in all, I love this game and have spent many hours playing. I’m close to beating all levels fully! But not quite! I try to find ways to get through levels without using special items. I may have to break down and use them, since some of these levels are impossible!Show lessVirginiaVetMom
Great game... Until Emberspike Depths.
Update from 3 stars to 5. Despite its issues I genuinely enjoyed it. Take a break if a level is too tough.
+ Before Emberspike the game is well balanced and varying levels offer a nice challenge. Enemies are diverse and force varying building setups. Heroes feel weighty and can change the tide when placed well. Specific strategies WILL get you through levels.
- The game suffers from an insane difficulty spike later on. Heroes end up being unbalanced in later games (I'm looking at you, pirate.) Challenge forces SIGNIFICANT grind to purchase items which messes with pacing and halts all meaningful progress. Boss mechanic/strategy comes from nowhere. Beating levels require a 20+ minute battle with no save progress or checkpoint system throughout and if you lose then tough luck.Show lessv0ye

Major issue
This would be such a fun game. I was loving it. But the levels are very long and if your phone goes to sleep or multitasks for any amount of time, the game reboots and you lose all your progress on the level. This happened to me too many times to keep trying.
To be clear, the issue is that the levels are 15 waves of slow-moving enemies and this game has a VERY low tolerance for being in the background even on my brand new iPhone 13 pro max. This game badly needs a way to save its state in the middle of the level. It’s unplayable without that.Show lessPaul Xero

Hi, we understand what you mean, Kingdom Rush Frontiers isn't a game where you pull it up and play for 5 minutes on the go. Some of the later levels take quite a while. Good Game (need save state for phone and iPad)
It is a really good TD game. The packing can be wonky but overall good game. However, for a “portable” games it suffers from a lack of a save state. Getting a call or a FaceTime request that last over 5 mins will completely ruin a try. The game usually start over at the title screen.
To be fair that is true of a lot of the recent arcade games.

Bad level bosses
I really wanted to play this game more, but you reach a level (emberspike) that even on easy it’s ridiculously hard. I get replaying levels and changing strategy, but it’s a dead end even with items.
I would give 5 stars if I was able to access more levels. It’s a very engaging tower defense game.Show lessEwood810
Awesome tower defense game
Out of all of them, this one is my favorite. I’ve been following this series for a while now and it’s nice to be able to try all the hero’s is a smooth HD display. If you never played these before or even if you have give this another try, you won’t be disappointed.Mrawsome21
Surely My App Must Be Broken
Even on easy mode, winning seems more luck than skill. I’ve played earlier versions of the game and was nicely challenged by the hard levels but was rewarded by strategic playing. This game is a repetitive grind to earn gems to buy boons that will win the game for you. Sure, it’s a strategy but the reward goes to playing your game in a way that is less intellectually engaging. The difference in difficult is so severe that I am certain there must be as issue in the app where you’re actually playing the hardest version - no matter which difficulty level you pick.Show lessmrmarionette
