  • Bikes!

Easy and convenient! Totally with it if you’re n México City any period of time and you want to get around on your own.
  • ONLY FOR MEXICANS, DO NOT USE AS TOURIST

This is a really poorly organized bike share. You HAVE to use the app but they canning accept foreign credit cards and will only give info in Spanish so I had no idea what was going on. Had to call where they told me I had to go to a random shopping mall (LOL) to pay and ride.
  • Stopped accepting American cards?

I used ecobici last year without any trouble when visiting cdmx, this year it days error check your card.. wasn’t able to enjoy Sunday bike ride and wasted a few hours trying to figure it out.
  • App suspension

I went to Mexico City with my parents and we decided to use the bikes. However our accounts immediately got suspended only because we exceeded the time limit. That is total nonsense.
  • Most of the time it works (not great!)

It works like 95 percent of the time. When it doesn’t, it’s a huge pain. Hard to rely on this as an alternative transportation system to cars/transit when it can cost you time/money if you’re trying to get somewhere on time and docks won’t unlock bikes or tell you you’re over the limit of uses (??) when you have an annual membership.

  • Essential for CDMX

I love these bikes and I use them daily and I can get around the city easily and much quicker than cheaper than an Uber.

Yes, sometimes there are issues as others have said but I think this to be expected from such a big network of bikes so throughly used by people.

As long as you take care while docking and make sure the bike is returned (wait for confirmation) you should be good 99% of the time.

I had one time where I had docked but the bike was still registered out even though it was securely locked in the dock and I only realised a while afterwards. I just had to refresh the app like 10 times and suddenly it recognised the bike was docked, but I got charged for 2 hours. This was also my fault for not taking the time to check the dock had registration the return at the station.

So just be careful and make sure the bike is confirmed returned in the app before leaving, even if it beeps OK.

  • Doesn’t work

Go through the whole sign up, get to payment, finally get a generic “an error occurred” with no explanation. Tried multiple cards multiple times with no effect. Why can’t app developers consider anything besides the “happy path”? This try-catch-open dialog pattern is horrible.
  • Not Accepting Foreign Cards

I was looking forward to using ecobici. My friends and I visiting the city tried to download the app and it would not allow any of us to purchase a pass. I visited a support kiosk and they said the app wasn’t processing foreign cards and didn’t know when it would work again.
  • Every day a new problem

I bought a 7 day plan for Mexico City and every day there was a different issue. Issues with the bikes not docking and then being charged for running over. Now the app won’t let me log in. The message is “contact customer services”. Ok how? Any help? So it looks like 2 days of the 7 I’ve paid for will go unused now. The bikes are also heavy with almost zero electrical assistance. I feel like I’ve had some good exercise at least but anyone who isn’t that fit might struggle
