This is how games should be

I wept real tears over the Alice character. These characters are surprisingly humanized. You can get invested in them like they are real people.
I have completed 85% now and am finding the end challenging but I will persist because I want to see how it ends.
But, can we take a moment to talk about how great the music in this game is? I don't know if it's original music created just for this story, or if it was selected specifically for its ethereal and haunting beauty. It's perfect! I will be contemplating the melodies for weeks after the game is done.

Please fix the zip line mechanics

This game is incredible, I absolutely adore the characters, art style, story, everything… except the zip lines are so, so, so hard to manoeuvre around with the way the controls are set up for the phone. Literally everything else is fantastic but this feature makes getting certain materials really hard.

Used to love this game

I love this game, and I so much want to give 5 stars. However I’ve become disappointed with the clear hostility toward capitalism and wealthy people. Astrid literally says “I’m not saying all rich people deserve to die.” Which insinuates that some rich people deserve to die simply for being rich.

I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but I’m disappointed in a game that obviously stands for inclusion and tolerance that then is blatantly intolerant of wealthy people and business owners. If Astrid had said that about any other group of people, most people wouldn’t accept it. But we have become so comfortable being intolerant to wealthy people that lines like Astrid’s are perfectly acceptable.

I have loved this game since I started playing. My dad and a dear friend both died 2 years ago and this game has helped in a small way grieve for them. But after getting to this part in the game and reading Astrid’s line about rich people deserving to die, I now have a very bad taste in my mouth, and my love for this game has been greatly tainted.

Enjoyable, some bugs

I like this game for its cute character design and the boat. I wanted it on PC so jumped when I saw it on Netflix. Fun how Greek mythology keeps showing up in games.

I found bugs in a few spots: vegetables and grains in the garden and field would freeze without explanation—good because I could keep pulling unlimited leeks, but not good because bugs. Also had an issue with the game saves; I couldn’t progress because every time I loaded it didn’t reflect the things I had done. Must have been at 18% or so? Too bad.

Game dumped all my auto saves

I was at 12% completion. I hit save and quit every time. Went back into the game and was at 4% completed. Went through the list of auto saves and all were from less than 4%.

Next step: delete game, post cranky review.

Was really enjoying the game until this happened but not going to replay a weeks progress just to lose it all again.

High-quality port, well-executed. Spiritfarer is Stardew Valley for the casual gamer

The other reviews available for this game (from at least a year ago) don’t do it justice. I first played Spiritfarer on my Nintendo Switch with my wife for a while before realising this was available through my Netflix subscription. I downloaded it mostly just to see if it was a reasonable port, and honestly I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

The controls may be a little unfamiliar to those who aren’t used to floating joysticks on touchscreens, but you can change that in settings to have a permanent joystick location. Other than that, the controls actually translate well to a touch-screen, and I say that as someone who games 90+% on consoles or at least with console controllers.

Talking to the actual game itself; Spiritfarer is a beautiful casual simulation that transports you to the afterlife, where you become the new Charon (ferryperson of the afterlife; read:Ancient Greek mythology) and your role is to bring souls to rest and guide them to the eternal nothingness by fulfilling their unfinished business. It’s a heartwarming and gentle tale of love, care, acceptance, and repentance. The slow and soulful approach brings the player closer and closer to understanding of the eternal nature of human struggle and the difficulty in accepting completion of one’s life. I’m reminded of the Netflix series The Good Place with regards to philosophy, and the characters are so loveable that it’s hard to stop until you fulfil everyone’s wants and needs.

Wherever you choose to play this game; give it a go. If you already have a Netflix subscription and haven’t bought it on other platforms; download and play this when you have a chance. It’s not for everyone - there’s no violence or a grand evil to overcome, but the elegantly weaved tale that Spiritfarer puts forth is well-worth your attention if you’re looking for a game that doesn’t demand anything of you and just wants to give you space and time to be your best self.

Like the title suggests - this is Stardew Valley for the casual gamer who wants to take their time; focus how they want to; to have no serious impetus to make money or ‘succeed’; and to focus their love and care on characters who grow, change, develop, and eventually leave you once they’re completely fulfilled. There’s a beautiful sadness in completing your quests to make a character whole, but letting them finally transcend your plane of existence brings the player simultaneous completion, sadness, and a bittersweet happiness that you’ve been the one to show them a better way.

TL;DR: other reviews are outdated. Give the game a go. Port and controls are high-quality. Gameplay is warm and sweet, as slow or fast as you want. Stories drag you in beyond what you thought possible. Play the game. It’s free.

Love this game

I love this game. I’m wanting to re download it, but my iPad is out of date, since this game is no longer compatible with my iPads model and I’m sad :((

Good game but now disappointed

I have been enjoying this game and finally started to get going again. Just updated today but now my iPad in “incompatible” even though I have been playing it till then.

Great Game Good Port

This is an amazing game and to get this on mobile where it really works well is a plus.
Gameplay on a phone is pretty intuitive. Sound is great. Frankly the core game is so good to be able to have this on my phone is pretty shocking.

Finally to be able to play a mobile without constant ads and App Store none sense is just a blast of fresh air.

This game is amazing.. but not for IPhone.

Let me start by saying I love this game. I adore this game, its music, visuals, the characters, the colors. I played this game on my switch and it was beautiful. You follow an amazing story and journey with Stella and Dafodil and meet different wonderful characters. This game mad me cry and smile multiple times. It is worth it to buy it on a console. This game would be nice on IOS if it is working. The bugs makes it unplayable. And the game often looks fuzzy and pixelated. But what can you expect playing it on your mobile device? It is okay until you get to a point that you cannot progress because a glitch or bug is blocking you from doing so. I do love this game and it is worth playing and hopefully these things will be fixed in the future.
