  • Way too much info wanted to start

A friend invited me to get in on the “early access” of this app. Reading about it sounded okay, didn’t really blow me away, sounded like sending a text photo to a friend but I figured I’d try. At first you enter all the usual info, name, user name, phone number, etc. Then it takes you to a page where you have to add 8 people before you can continue. I knew exactly one person in the list of 65 people but I had to add 8 to go forward. So I added 8 people. Next page is them demanding you invite 5 people to use the app. Once again you cannot move forward without texting 5 people. I texted 5 landlines bc I’m not going to bother my friends will apps I don’t even know anything about. Next page, you must change your Lock Screen to include their widget. Once again you cannot move forward until you do this. This is as far as I got. I refused to continue trying to move forward, I’ve never used such an invasive app. So without even completing my profile I would get a minimum of 20 notifications a day telling me about people I didn’t know adding things I didn’t care about.

  • Loving it, but some grievances.

Love love love the idea behind lapse. A step back into simpler times before the rush of social media. However, this isn’t something I’ve fully adopted due to the infancy of the app, and sharing links to get started. I do understand Lapse is trying to build a baseplate of users before rolling out public access. I think the invite only is kinda killing the lust to create an account. For instance I invited my wife to join, but she never completed setup bc of the invites you HAVE to send to users who aren’t on it already. My wife isn’t one to bombard her family and friends with links to random stuff on the internet, therefore she was out before ever getting to experience it.

Another thing. I’m not gonna remember to take a photo with Lapse to capture a moment. Lapse has access to my photo library, yet I can’t seem to get the upload to work. I’d like to upload photos to the share feed, but can’t. I’m assuming that’s a quick fix that’ll hopefully be fixed by next bug update.

  • Love this app but scammy features

I love the concept of this app, very fun and different way to approach social media. I love the filters, truly looks just like my 35mm camera! The concept of the developing time is fun and I really like how it prevents you from doing a bunch of retakes in the moment. The process of posting is easy and intuitive.

I wish there were a few tweaks to the process of downloading, requiring you send to 5 seems excessive especially when you can’t send to people already on the app. I get the idea behind it, but it’s been a turn off for some of my friends who don’t want to go through the long process and bug other people to download. I also wish you could just use the filter on existing pics or export without logo. I recently updated so you can no longer screenshot, you must export with the app logo. It’s not a very appealing logo/ watermark- I think it detracts from the overall vibe of the picture. I would repost to other platforms more if it was a little more streamlined or better placed. It really just makes me want to crop it out.

I hope this app catches on and more people download, it’s really a good idea just could be improved user experience!

  • So much potential

This app has so much potential. It really pulls you in with the intro video and the synchronized haptic feedback that goes along with it. I love that it feels like old school MySpace meets old Facebook and Instagram. Having to wait for photos to develop really keeps you in the moment as well. However there are a few areas where it falls short. Being forced to invite 5 people who aren’t already on the app just to be able to use it is a bit extreme. Also even after all that I am still not able to see people feeds because the app wants me to invite even more people. All the people I want on the app have already been invited or are already on the app. I feel this aspect of the app could be its downfall if something doesn’t change soon. Everyone I tell about the app seems interested until they find out they HAVE to invite at least 5 new people. Also I should be able to upload camera roll photos to be developed or be able to add archived photos to my feed at a later time.

  • Seemed Ok, Has Some Drawbacks

I saw this app and immediately wanted to give it a shot. I’m huge on pictures, and thought it would be like Huji but better. Not quite. First, it requires that you invite a bunch of people, which i did and dismissed it as a good idea to get the word out for the app. Cool, fine, whatever. Some of my close friends didn’t want to do this step, feeling super awkward about the implication, so the social aspect was already a little gone. Then I took pictures, and the development feature is quite fun. Love the profile customization and all that jazzy stuff. Then I tried to download the pictures, and they have large watermarks that you can only remove if you invite 3 new people to the app every 24 hours. Thats crazy. Each week, sure, but every day? Idk, i didn't want to bother more people so i downloaded what i could with the watermarks and deleted the app. R.i.p. - i’m sure some people wont mind, but it wasn’t for me or my group.

  • it was nice while it lasted

I have been an avid journal, now lapse, fan for quite some time now. I’ve recommended it to many because of simply loving the vibes of the app.

Now, I think it’s important to note, the process of getting the app is overly aggressive and unnecessary-I do understand the thought and strategy behind it, but I also think presenting someone with such a bad fist impression is, plainly said, a bad idea. Next, not only did you neglect to fix the tragic, vibe ruining watermark, and made it look worse, but you removed the ability for us to screenshot. Why? Now I’m sure you could give many reasons for that, but I don’t think any would level out to the ramifications of this. Because of the watermark I refuse, and always will refuse, as so many agree, to share any of the photos on any other social platform, period. Nor, quite frankly, do I like the pictures at all. (I want the real snapshot, film pictures back) Once, the simple way around this was to screenshot the photo, but no. That being said, when it comes down to it, the vibes were ruined when you turned away from the original purpose and mission of this app to popularity and profit. I really do hope to see some good changes that get you back to your roots in the future, thanks.

  • Yikes.

Some aspects of the app are lovely, and amazing! Issues: Forces you to add people, shares photos at a skinnier aspect ratio than you took the photo with, messing up compositions, when you finish sharing images you get a huge popup to create an album every. single. time. if i want to make an album i’ll make an album, the copywriting in the app sometimes feels like bullying, blocks users from screenshotting images. the only way to export your photos is with a huge ugly watermark and date stamp on it. to export without this [glad there is an option at least] is to invite even more friends to the app……..

I love that this app lets you save memories and focus on curating what is happening in real time with yummy film presets. The concept could be pushed further by making image development take 2 hours, so it is more similar to actual film photography. Allowing more camera zoom options like BeReal allows, etc. So many good amazing things with this app, but also so many terrible annoying things, like popups, and annoying jeers to make albums, cringe copywriting, etc etc. Please fix these things, and i’d actually want to tell my friends about this app. For now it is 50% nice 50% some forced MLM

  • Fun with friends but difficult to use

I have liked this app and have had for a few months. A lot of my friends and I have it and it’s really sweet to see everyone’s beautiful photos. This app produces really good quality pictures with a nostalgic and aesthetic feel to them. However, it is very laggy. When opening up my developed photos, it pauses nearly every time and I can only get out of the frozen screen by exiting the app. It also won’t post/archive/or delete when I swipe, only to load later accidentally posting or deleting when it wasn’t my intention. I also can’t seem to find a way to tag friends after I’ve already posted the photo (which I have done several times on accident). I don’t know if it’s an actual feature, but I would really like it if it became one. Overall, it’s a fun app but just be ready to exert frustration when trying to obtain and post your photos.

  • Good in theory

I’m honestly not a social media type of person. A few of my friends sent me the link to join this and I figured why not so I did. The process to get an account is a little aggressive and was a really lengthy process. The idea of it seems really good and I like the idea and the layout. Originally when I made my account I only chose 4 pictures because I didn’t really know what the pictures would be for. I ended up decided I wanted to change them and it will NOT load. I’ve tried to refresh it multiple times and I’ve tried to use it on different internet sources and use my own cell service but it’s not working. I also wish you could zoom in more in the apps before you take the picture. Honestly if those issues were fixed it would probably be a 5 star. My only problems are the challenges to change journal pictures, how long the process to join the app is, and not being able to farther zoom in. But it is a cute app with potential.

  • Trying really hard to like it

When I first downloaded the app and put my phone number in to register it wouldn’t go through. I pressed the help button and it said this was a common bug and to email the lapse help email which I did. They sent me one email back saying that they had gotten my email but had an increase in responses and it would take time to respond which I understood. A couple days later I could finally enter my number and it would go through and then it asked for me to invite my five friends which I did but then when I pressed next it said it was unable to process. I sent another email but no response. Days later it was able to go through but then it asked to add the widget to your Home Screen, I did and it wouldn’t allow me to go on. Again, I sent an email and no response. Then, once again days later I could get passed that stage. I thought I was finally able to use the app. I was excited because I love the concept of Lapse and I was looking forward to taking pictures but now none of my photos will sync to the darkroom. Lapse has not been in communication with me still and I’m frustrated, I want to like the app but am not feeling like it’s worth the amount of effort I’m putting in. I’m disappointed to say the least.
