  • Copy link broken?

I love this app; it’s a great way of saving news articles for later.

However the latest update seems to have broken the copy link feature. It used to be, when you opened the app, if you had a link in your clipboard, it would ask if you wanted to save the link to Instapaper. Great way to get links from email or text to this app. Sadly, it’s no longer working. Hopefully a future version fixes this so I can give it 5 stars again.

  • No longer works

This was an excellent app, which I found really easy to use and it was also very useful for me.
Now that the GDPR law has been enacted, the app has been abandoned by the developer. I sent an e.mail to them and they said that they need a little more time to get this back up and running.
It has now been over two months, so it must be one of the most complicated procedures ever attempted by human beings!
Very sadly, because it really was excellent, I will be deleting it as it is just a space thief now. Goodbye Instapaper, it was good while it lasted.

  • Another update for an app I can’t use in Europe!

I’ve been using Instapaper for many years until cut off because the latest developers didn’t prepare for GDPR. It is then an irony to get an update today to an app that I still cannot use.

Luckily I had just enough time to pull all my old data into Pinboard before I was shut off. I can’t help but feel that this wouldn’t have happened when Marco was the developer.

  • Great app.

I’ve been using this app for almost 10 years. Glad to hear you’re going independent again.
  • Doesn’t work in Europe

It’s such a shame that the app can’t find a way around GDPR regulations. It’s pretty disrespectful and vague about letting the user know this is a problem too. First, it doesn’t update stories properly. Then, if you decide to log out and back in, or uninstall and reinstall, it gives a vague error message about an unknown return. Rather than just saying it is unavailable in Europe.

I logged out on two devices, so that’s me buggered on two counts. I’m on holiday from outside Europe so didn’t know this would be a problem. Instapaper didn’t say or send anything to me.

And now that whole promise of reading anywhere is a lie. Holiday reading list? Nah.

Shame. I used to like this app and was totally looking forward to catching up with those stories I’d saved while I was on holiday. You know, like it’s designed to do.

Sort yourself out, Instapaper. You’re a disgrace.

It’s owned by Pinterest, who should really know better.

  • Pocket Convert

Recently converted from Pocket to Instapaper due to Pocket’s cluttered UI. I get unlimited highlighting and beautiful and simple interface that encourages reading. Definite recommendation to those focused on reading text everyday.
  • "Temporarily" unavailable

It's been over a month, guys. What gives? I haven't been able to sync the app, add new articles (via the bookmarklet or the share sheet), or use the website since the GDPR came into law. And this is beyond silly. Some companies are only now making their apps GDPR-compliant (A certain email client that rhymes with 'nark' gave users the ability to request the removal of their data, a non-optional requirement of GDPR, on 26/Jun), so they obviously have no problem with running noncompliant apps past the deadline. To take down your entire service because of this is immature and unprofessional. Don't be surprised when your users hate you for it.

  • Total disrespect shown to your loyal EU users!

I find it absurd that given a full 2 years!!!... Yes. 24 months, in which to prepare for GFPR, you have failed to do so! And in failing to address it, you have shut out your loyal user-base in the EU. Worse still, you only gave users a one day notice of removal of your service, via email. An email that effectively said - We are cutting you off. If you want your data, then email us and we’ll send you it in a file... Bye!

Bad communication is the failing of many a business. Trust me, I know, I work in the NHS! This is unacceptable and I will be emailing Apple to request that they remove your now defunct app from all EU App Stores! I had rated this app 5 stars before this mess-up. Unfortunately it has gone from a 5 star review to a one star... I would have given it no stars, if it had been an option!

  • User and BIG fan since Jan. 2010 (only wish it did a better job with tables)

I love this app. I’ve been using it heavily for 9 years. It is indispensable to me. Obviously 5 stars. You should get it like a decade ago. So easy, so powerful, so hairsplittingly close to perfect. I only wish (*really* wish) it kept table content in rows and columns instead of turning it into huge meaningless chunks of unreadable text. I should probably email the devs instead of posting my critique in this review, I hate it when people do that, but here we are…

  • Love the app but hate the scroll bar

I love using Instapaper and linking it with IFTTT to automatically add articles.

The one thing that is infuriating is that if you have scrolling enabled (which is the way I want to progress through an article), you can accidentally touch the scroll bar with your thumb as you scroll and you suddenly go shooting off in the complete opposite direction and lose your place. It would be so much better if there was an option to disable the ability to drag on the scroll bar. No other app I use has this behaviour so it is always a rude shock when it occurs in Instapaper

Thanks for letting us know where you're experiencing some difficulty with Instapaper. We'll keep changes to scroll bar behavior in mind for the future.
