  • An amazing free app if you read a lot of news

I’ve been using Instapaper for over 8 years; it has consistently done an excellent job of saving articles across the web / social media that I want to read later, downloading them offline, and allowing me to read them in a minimalist format. There have never been ads. I don’t think there is much more you can ask from a free app; I would highly recommend to anyone who reads large amounts of news

  • Great app, but now with bug that makes it unusable

I’ve used and loved Instapaper for years, and still love it. Unfortunately though, the latest version has a bug that causes articles to lose their read position. This makes the app utterly unusable and I very much hope can be fixed soon.

Update: it’s been months since I reported this bug. They at first seemed interested in fixing it, and even gave me a beta build to test. But ultimately they seem to just not care about actually shipping a fix. I think the app is abandonware at this point.

  • Gets the basics right. But lacks UI flexibility and modern features

This is a basic app to replace the dreaded bookmarks glut. Also saving the text to read later. But I’ve been writing to them about allowing users to sort folders they create. It is something that shouldn’t be too hard these days. But zero response from the developer. So not very happy. Will keep looking for alternatives. Surprised this app has lasted so long with such apathy toward getting user feedback. Meh 🫤

  • A great app/service, but the missing images…

I use this both to read later and to make notes. The problem is that the articles I want to highlight often have charts and graphs, and they don’t appear unless I load the browser—but then I lose my highlights. I don’t know how hard it would be to pull those images (without pulling the ads, but I’d rather have some ads than no charts); but I keep reporting the problem of missing images, and there is no sign of progress. Alternatively, showing my highlights in the browser would be an improvement.

    Developer Response

Thanks for the heads up, Daryl. Could you send some of those URLs to us directly at support@help.instapaper.com? I'd be happy to look into them directly and see if it's an easy fix (or at least give you a run down of the image handling for those particular domains). Thanks again!
  • Bring back [auto download from a copied link] function please

Instapaper is awesome you know. The internet articles in China will be 404 for many ridiculous reasons. That’s why we thanks Instapaper so much. I have used Instapaper for several years. The old version (sorry I didn’t notice which version I had before) support auto download from a copied link. But just now when I updated to the newest version found this function gone! My friend suggested me to open this link in safari first, then to share with Instapaper. It does work but too complicated. Really appreciated if you could bring back [auto download from a copied link] function!

  • Pointless

Nightmare trying to save anything. It doesn’t pop up with the option on iPhones to save directly as instructions mentioned. Won’t send pdf/info just the link.
  • Indispensable, A Must-Have!

That is if you value great articles and information, and don't always have the time to read or internalize all that on the spot. For many years now Instapaper has been invaluable as a tool for curating my inquisitiveness, interests and learning. I love its versatility, design and features and cannot imagine owning a PC or mobile device without that app on it. Thank you Instapaper!

  • My go to reader

I save just about everything I want to read on this app. Even from magazines. The ability to highlight, comment on and save text are key. I’ve set it so liked articles, with notes, are saved to Evernote for future use using IFTTT. Robust search and sorting. My only complaint is it’s a touch too easy to accidentally close an article when highlighting it. Rare. But happens.

  • Suggested added features

I really love this app, and have been using it for a long time now. Even if the downloads don’t work sometimes in different mediums I can always find a way around it. I would like to see a “random” button that selects a random saved article to read, as I can’t get the current one to work. And maybe save the light settings, because if I’m on a mode that isn't currently selected, if I leave and come back it goes back to the default one. Other than that great app!

  • Disappointed with Text-to-speech playlist

I’ve been a loyal user for a long time, but I am very disappointed with the text to speech playlist that is available for the premium subscription. I recently purchased the premium version so that I could take advantage of this specific feature, however the playlist will only speak back the articles using the Siri voice even though the default voice preference on my device (iPad) is different.

I’ve searched the app settings and preferences, as well as the web for help to change the voice to the voice my device uses for text-to-speech, but I have found nothing. I’ve restarted the app and my device, to no avail.

I will gladly give you 5 stars if you fix this.

All that said, if it’s user error, then my bad. Please tell me what I’m doing wrong.
