Leave a Review Instapaper
Great on both iOS and web
I’ve been using Instapaper for a while now and thoroughly enjoy using its iOS and web platforms. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a solid read later type app.Perfect app for off line readers
Love it and use it a lot.Needs work
Update. No updates in a year. Bugs are even worse now. Feels abandoned.
Such a buggy app still. Not uncommon to come back to reading an article and have a blank screen. Go back to the article list and re-select the article only to have lost one’s place. Sharing articles doesn’t pull the article title unless you are in browser view. Reporting sites that don’t work never results in any improvement, even if they are important news sites that have been broken for years. Items can either be in folders or archived, so folders are useless for finding read articles. Such a shame that the owners don’t seem to care about sweating the details.Show lessSome bugs need fixing, otherwise awesome app
technical issues
Glitches:
Facebook cannot contact “there is an issue with sites Facebook login”
From the main settings menu on the iPhone app, there’s a section called “shortcuts” which supposedly give you the option to add new action to the iOS shortcuts menu on the home screen
Problem with this, two of the action options are dysfunctional
“Random” sends you to the Instapaper home screen
“Last saved” opens the app before crashing it
There is a switch in the settings menu which says “unread count”. This also doesn’t do anything
Suggestion:
It would be nice to have “shuffle” or “random article” feature within the app, as well as an “unread articles” and “recently saved” view
It would also be super handy to bw able to “filter” saved articles by criteria, such as “minutes to read”
Also updated voices :)
Thanks 🙏😊Show lessAbysmal
The app started out great when it first came out. I remember paying CAD 5 for the paid version, and then they decided to add those features to the free app and introduce a subscription fee. But my main problem is that many times articles are stuck in perpetual unable to download mode, and the app constantly resets into the white background. Whenever you switch to dark mode it switches right back. I wrote to support two years ago about it and they got back to me saying that it’ll be fixed soon, but it wasn’t. It’s this kind of poor customer service that make this app so abysmal. Pity, as it used to be the app I used most on my iPad.Show lessGood but could be great
Some articles don’t format into the app as well as they could (images mainly) - but otherwise fairly reliable. My main gripe is the inability to change the text colour. Their black background option is great, but the default text is grey, not white, meaning you have to increase screen brightness to get sufficient contrast. What should be a simple fix or upgrade, hasn’t been made in years. The reading experience in this regard is superior on their competitor app, Pocket.Show lessBig fan turned off by no service response
I have been a big fan of Instapaper for years. I submitted a service ticket to Instapaper regarding billing over a month ago, no replies (junk mail checked). I sent a follow up email to their service email again to see what was happening a week ago, no replies.
The billing issue is minor, however, the lack of support and response from Instapaper turned me off.Show lessCutting Across the Ages
Few apps have been with me since the early days of iPhone but Instapaper has. Bigger in my mind even than the other Insta-app, IP turns web bookmarks into locally readable offline content with features to organize and publish. Sure Apple, Google and Microsoft have caught up with their own built-in features, but IG has the continuity and cross-platform advantage. Reading IP on an OLED screen in night mode is as sweet as the “send-to” voice that can read the page to you.Show lessNew bugs, no new features
I’ve been an Instapaper for many years, through several owners. Recently there has been a super annoying bug that resets the UI to Dark Mode no matter what I choose. I’ve emailed the developers with no response.
Moreover, there simply hasn’t been any new feature development in years. I don’t want to change to a competitor - I’m fortunate to have paid for a permanent premium account long ago - but at this rate, I’d rather pay for a product that works better.Show lessWhere was this my whole life!?
Ok, I’m a sucker for great typography and minimalism. I’m also an educator and appreciate readability and literature. Instapaper is an omnibus of good reading experiences! It’s so easy to save articles for reading, to annotate, and to interact with what you read. It also has some cool uses...
1. Studying. I am taking seminary college classes and I save online articles (which are often hard to read on their sites) into Instapaper in a specific folder for that class. Now I can read the text more easily and annotate no prob!
2. Bookmarking and curation. I’m also a writer and am on the lookout for great pieces to reference, share on social media, or inform my writing. Instapaper is one lightweight curation machine (better than Wakelet) because it focuses on text.
Feedback to improve:
Folder nesting. Would love to be able to organize my seminary classes by folder within one main folder to save screen space.
Multiple highlighter colors.
The typography tools are spot on!! Keep it up.Show less
