  • Test of Time! by Golden

Downloaded this app months ago, wanted to 'test drive' it and after all this time it still crashes at the most inconvenient moments...usually when I'm looking through a selection of theme recipes or when I'm trying to create a shopping list! Yes there are American versions of ingredients with no English equivalents, would save me alot of time fishing around on safari, searching for alternative names for cilantro!
Also, I agree with previous reviewer, weight n measures in the alternative would be ideal! On a positive note I have learnt more about the humble chilli dish and it's variations according to region. I have tried to cook a couple of the featured chillis from this app with moderate success...only wish that I could buy the mole/ancho chilli sauces from Britain!
Nice to have recipes with some background to the chef and area of origin. I love the authenticity of some of the recipes and the new inspiring ones.
This app is on my first page as I use it a lot.

  • Love the app, except for the login issues

I use this app all the time. Great recipes presented in a clear, easy-to-read format. The user comments offer helpful suggestions for tweaking the recipes and avoiding pitfalls. It’s very handy to be able to save favorites to my recipe box—however...

I can’t log in to the app on my iPad (though I can on my iPhone). That means I can’t access the recipe box, which is inconvenient and really annoying. I’m running the latest version of the app, which was supposed to have fixed these login problems. Neither changing my password nor reinstalling the app fixed the problem. I tried emailing Epicurious app support, but the email address they provided appears to no longer valid.

  • This app is a cooks absolute MUST HAVE!

I am a serious cook with very discerning taste, so any old recipe just won’t cut it. Epicurious is my go-to place for all things yummy.

If I eat something delicious at a restaurant I can usually find the recipe for the dish I liked on Epicurious. If I’m stumped for what to make for dinner on the weeknights I can find inspiration on Epicurious. If I’m looking for a show-stopper dish for literally any occasion I can find it on Epicurious!

My one piece of advice is for new cooks to be aware that most of the recipes on this app are spot on, but I would definitely recommend reading through the entire recipe you’re considering making to make sure that it seems doable and that there aren’t odd curveballs to what you might be expecting (sometimes there are several variations of a recipe).

  • Review from a 20+ year member

I’ve been an Epicurious member since the 1990’s and, until it was disbanded, an active voice in the Epicurious Forum. When the Epicurious Cookbook was in the works I was contacted to contribute one of my recipes which I’m happy to say appeared in the book (Sesame Noodles). Back then Epi was my primary source for new recipe inspirations and I loaded my personal recipe box with them. I still refer back to those on occasion but no longer visit the site as my primary source - it has been preempted by the NYT Cooking Site where I find the recipes more infesting and the comments more lively. It used to be much easier to upload a personal recipe to this site but it’s now too cumbersome to do so or to even go back and revise a previous one. I’m happy that those of us who met in cyberspace via the erstwhile Forum have been thriving in our private group on FB.

  • Recipes disappear

I was really excited to try this app. Great layout and user friendly but unfortunately after a night of going through and creating a list of recipes they all disappeared. Realised today it happens when I close the app. Tried logging out then back in and still nothing. Now I can’t save recipes at all :( this app has great potential but unfortunately just isn’t working for me

  • Please improve your app so it functions in a manner appropriate to this decade!

First: I have loved Epicurious and used it often. Second: the app is very disappointing. Since I don’t take my laptop into the kitchen when cooking, you’d think the app would be fully functional.

My main complaint is that it doesn’t allow for reviews. I rely on others reviews in choosing recipes to play with, so like to leave my own without having to login in on a different device. In addition, the “fork ratings” of recipes are not consistent between the website and the app! Tonight I made a 4 fork recipe from the app that was subpar, and when I went to review it realized it was rated much lower on the full website. They really need to fix these deficiencies. I’ll look for another site that allows you to search and save things to a recipe box now. This one simply isn’t good enough.

Update: Oh and great! Now the app won’t even function to allow logins for the old recipes saved there! Keeps bumping me back to the login page. I’m not clear why BA has trouble putting out a functional app. Other food sites don’t have such difficulty. Ridiculous.

  • App is Nonfunctional

I have tried for weeks to get this app to work after it booted me off one day and cleared my updates to my recipe box. I can use the website just fine in my browser, so I know it’s not my password, but the app never lets me log in. I tried to submit a error report through the app via the posted link and surprise surprise it told me the server was down and they were unable to communicate. Tried deleting the app over and over again, and it never seems to work. I have tried to change my password just to make sure that’s not the problem, and the link to change the password always sends me straight to the home page of the website, from which point I have to find a different change password link on the website. Having no way to submit an email to support from the app and being unable to use the app in general makes it pretty useless to me at this point.

  • Brilliant

App is amazing! Has such brilliant recipes and very clear, easy to follow instructions. The only minor issue I have is that when I press the “save” button, it doesn’t go my save list, instead, when I click off the recipe & back on it, i need to save again & it still doesn’t work. Despite this minor issue. Phenomenal app

  • Handy

Application works great and has been very stable. Unfortunately I cannot see what I’m typing here as the text is white so sorry for typographical errors. I am also using voice dicks on so it could come out weird or talk about coffee machines or something instead of what I meant. Anyway back to the review. I got a nice amount of stuff from this... I don’t really cook and this won’t get me cooking, but it will serve as very nice inspiration for my cook character who I write as. I know that sounds weird but it’s nice for creative writing when I can’t do things in real life. So thank you for making it free :)
