  • Could easily be great

This is close to being really good, but needs a few fixes and improvements. I've reported some - the Support team that you contact get back to you quickly, but... well, just look at how often new versions are released... over a year since the last update...

My biggest issue is with Artist vs Album Artist. When browsing songs on the NAS it uses Album Artist as expected, but when browsing downloaded music, it ignores that and just uses Artist, making a real mess of compilations.

  • Works decently

The description says it needs “Audio Station” installed for all features to work. In fact, it requires this for any features to work!

It caches 2GB by default, so be sure to fix that.

It’s surprisingly slow to list my tracks. Viewing the same music library from iTunes on my Mac is far faster, on the same network. I guess it uses different fields for classifying music than iTunes, because the views are pretty different, too.

The transcoding options are not clear, and the help is not helpful.

But it works. It does play my music.

  • Audiophile grade lossless DLNA solution

Installed Synology Audio Station on my Synology DS220j to stream my lossless audio NAS library to several wireless DLNA clients around my home. DS Audio makes a very simple yet effective controller app for Audio Station. Would like to see more attention given to feature enhancements though.
  • Can’t scrub through songs

This app is absolutely fantastic in the fact I can use it to stream my music to all my devices but one issue that I have found is that I can not scrub the song forward or backward while it is playing. I’m not quite sure why that is but It’s frustrating. Effectively what happens is when I try to scrub through a playing song the scrub bar will just jump back to It’s current position & not update to the new location within the song.

I really hope that this reaches the developers since as I see that this app hasn’t been updated for over a year which is a tad concerning.

  • Serious volume control bug

Volume-down button on iPhone causes volume to go up when music is played through receiver. Causes the stereo to go to full blast when trying to decrease the volume. Straight up Dangerous.
  • Overall Awesome

Sure it’s missing many premium features. But it’s a pretty nice app if you have a ton of Audio on your NAS. Lots of cool radio stations too. Must have if you own a Synology nas.
  • Need more work

I still feel the interface a bit complicated, would suggest the following features:

    - no need to block the screen first time it run trying to login the NAS
    - Apple TV support
    - CarPlay support
    - Integrate Siri, to request to play a playlist in a room
    - View and edit song information, I would love to be able to edit the song information (name, album, artist, etc)
    - Delete/add songs files if admin account
    - The start screen to chose the speaker is not fully clear or explained

  • Good but could be better

    Like:
-There is the option for high bit rate files to be compressed when downloading to a mobile device - very useful for saving space.

    Dislike:
-The app sorts by the “album” parameter, rather than “sort album” parameter. I put the release date in the “sort album” parameter to sort by release date in iTunes. But this doesn’t get picked up by the DS Audio app

  • A few changes could make it excellent

It’s great that I can rate my tracks with stars but I can’t use this rating to do anything. Change it so I can filter by rating and also make it so I can see the rating in the thumbnails please. To make this a useful app I should be able to use multiple filters to sort my library. So I want to be able to filter by genre and rating at the same time, as a minimum requirement. Thanks. It’s quite a nice app just not that practical yet.

  • Horrible usability

No option to download a music folder. Requires you to click on each song. So you can’t listen to music unless happen to be on home network. I have to resort to manually copying it on my phone which makes the app pointless.
