  • Great app

Very intuitive interface, and reliable forecasts, with lots of information, even in the free version: swell height and direction, wind strength and direction, and surf height at specific spots.
I'm giving it 4 stars though, because the wind information, which is also colour cosed, is not always consistent, e.g. red is used for strong or onshore winds, but not all the time.

  • Great app - needs more clarification for new users

I love this app and I just got it. It gave accurate results the time I used it for Huntington Beach in California. The only thing wrong with the app is that, as a newer user, I don’t know what all the different conditions symbols mean. What’s “14s” mean? I know it means seconds but what does that mean out on the water? Or the arrow with a number with a degree under it? Otherwise I love the app and it has great metrics for people who are unfamiliar with it like myself and for people who are familiar with it. Thank you

  • Holiday Saver

We have had moment when we’ve went down to the beach or a near hot spot for surfing at times when surfing is at large on to be disappointed with working against the waves or the water just being too calm. This has definitely saved us many journeys and has many many more successful ones happen. I don’t have the purchased version but the free one is good enough to be able to plan the weekend ahead for some surfing. Love the app and the detail that’s included I’m sure for anyone more professional they would probably buy the full version/subscription since I do see it’s worth.

  • Magic Seaweed across the globe

I use this app to post sea conditions to my Triathlon training group in Port Elizabeth South Africa. My location is in Western Australia. With the 6 hr time difference it makes it easy to forward weather/sea/wind forecasts to the group from my remote location.
    Excellent source of information.
Locally we use this app as a planner for our swimming, diving and small craft activities.

  • profiteering

this is a great app. don’t get me wrong, but the recent change to the service meaning you have to pay £7.99 a month to access cameras, as what was previously free is profiteering pure and simple.
I don’t use this app very often but the camera function was a key feature as to why I did and I’m not paying £7.99 a month to use gain access to a camera that I might view for less than 30 seconds at a time a few times a months or less. They claim this is to pay for investment into new cameras but this is simply too much money and I’ll be forced to use a different service. I simply cannot justify paying this amount of money or understand it. Netflix is cheaper and I use that more 1000%.
    Do better.

  • MSW is good, but pays less attention to Texas.

I live and surf in Texas where our surf has some hidden gems. You have to be very knowledgeable to know where to find tubes, offshore winds, and quality uncrowded surf. I’ve used MSW for a few years now and noticed that the report is updated pretty frequently - a pro. I’ve also noticed that whoever makes the report doesn’t quite understand how swell hits different spots along the Texas coast - a con. For any surfer who knows something about Texas surf, he knows to pay little mind to MSW’s forecast and to just look at the swell and swell direction. I think that for any forecast everything else is pretty much impossible to predict with any certainty. MSW has plenty of forecasts in surf spots along the Texas coast, but they usually get everything wrong about the descriptions of the spots. Other than usually giving you an idea of when there’s going to be surf, MSW doesn’t really do much else unless it’s about the day before you plan to surf. MSW is easy to use, has a ton of features and cams and is helpful when planning trips. Would definitely recommend to anyone; even though it has its imperfections.

  • Great app.

The star rating isn’t dependable but the actual information on weather and ocean conditions is fairly accurate. I like the setup and can easily see what time tides are up and down, light and dark times as well. Plus they added more beach cams! One annoyance which isn’t on surfing info is the photo section. I live close to Oceanside Oregon and the page is blasted with people’s photos of Oceanside California. Most pictures are even labeled. It’s false advertising for our local beach but anyone who looks well enough can see it’s not Oregon. (No wetsuit or we don’t have pier’s). Same with Seaside Oregon.

  • Beach fishing in East Yorkshire.

As a long time beach fisherman in and around East Yorkshire I find M.S.W. is invaluable in planning a trip to the coast. I like the fact that you get an hour by hour report of the wave height, direction of the sets and wind direction. I found the tide times and size in metres give me an insight of where to fish on the day, I.E. on big tides you will get washed off on certain beaches. To sum up, “ A great app to have on your phone”. Steve T.

  • Great way to plan my weekends….for most spots

Since I live in Seattle, every time I go surfing, I have a choice to surf the straight (northern coast of the Olympic peninsula) or go to the ocean just south of the peninsula. When this app says that Crescent Beach or Twin Rivers is having a 5 star day, it’s a little shorter of a hike for us to get some good waves. There have been a handful of times that we have been skunked just taking this apps ratings heading there. Because the difference is about a 4 hour drive, if we make a wrong decision due to an inaccurate prediction, the day is spent.

I understand that it’s hard to predict but it seems like there is information that’s being taken from the coast and applied to the spots on the straight of Juan De Fuca. It can be firing on the coast and dead on the straight depending on swell direction. If more attention could be paid to that, this app would have a 5 star review from me.

  • Decade campaign

This app it a vital component in my quest to get my kids away from screens and onto boards.
It has taken 10 years, but yesterday they were both shredding all by themselves, and having the best time.
Kids don’t like getting dumped. Picking the right condition with the app was vital to getting the surf vibe right to hook em!
