  • Incredible

I’ve been using this app for five years and it might be the best $10 I have ever spent. No ads, no gimmicks, just a great tool for organizing recipes and meal planning. You can write your own recipes or import them from anywhere quite easily. Every part of the recipe is easily edited, and you can also rate the recipe or leave notes which is great for improving a meal over time.

The search function is excellent. I will often search by ingredient to find recipes that will allow me to use up what is in my fridge. I typically put together a meal plan for the week first, then go through and create a shopping list — you can easily click on a recipe, select “add to shopping list” to generate a list of needed ingredients, and then just deselect what you already have. If you keep your inventory updated, the app will even do this for you — plus it will update the inventory after you do your shopping. I don’t use the inventory feature though and this app is still super helpful.

Before I downloaded this app, I tried a few other similar ones and they all had issues (lag, limitations on how you could import or modify recipes, fixed database of ingredients, etc). I only hope Ray never sells this app!

  • Award winning…..in my opinion

I rarely ever write reviews, to be honest. But I want to shout this one from the mountain tops! Where has this been all of my life? I have never been a meal planner. I pull something out for dinner and decide what to make from there. But hey! I am LOVING this! I host a FB group called From Pantry to Table and share recipes from all over all day long. This app helps me to organize and keep my favorite recipes. I will be importing a lot of recipes! This will help me keep tabs on what I have on hand. I’m trying to whittle it down actually. I just went through an ad and created my shopping list from there. I’m adding what we still need to the grocery list. I love that I can just send the grocery list to my significant other by text or email. I love planning what is for dinner, in advance now. Oh geez! Did I just admit that? The importing of recipes is virtually seamless. I love it! This will help us remember where we bought things. That’s huge! I’d love to see another tab where we can just list items we have to use up, so we keep them top of mind. In the meantime, we’ll do a small whiteboard in our house. I’d love a feature to somehow leave our recipe account willable to family. We don’t want to lose these recipe treasures now! At least this is printable! That helps. I know I will have more ideas. This app is really blowing my mind on ways to use it. I love it and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this app!

  • Finally, great recipe and shopping list management!

We realized that we were not grocery shopping efficiently (taking too long, getting too many things we didn’t need, not enough of what we did need), we were wasting food, and using precious weeknight time trying to figure out what to make for dinner. I set out to look for a meal planner app but didn’t want the app to dictate what I ate, necessarily. This app checks all the boxes. The recipes can be easily imported from the web and are highly customizable to meet your diet’s needs should you want to make substitutions. The pantry inventory is also pretty great and easy to update. And you can’t beat a one-time, flat (and reasonable) price for the app! Already paid for itself in the first week. Got my husband to also download it and synced up the shopping list when he went grocery shopping. The dinner routine has been greatly streamlined! Very well thought out app.

  • Excellent!

I think I’ve rated this app before but I love it so much I’m happy to again proclaim how amazing it is! Literal life changer. I’m not kidding. This made meal planning and grocery shopping so efficient I got my weekends back. I was grandfathered into the free app but paid the app $ voluntarily to show support. We have used this for years. I’ll find recipes while sitting on the couch watching a movie and just import stuff and then pop stuff that sounds good into a weekly menu, sync the grocery list and order a Walmart delivery or pickup. It feels like I hardly have to expend any energy on the chore of feeding my household. The kids are gone now but we had an iPad in the kitchen and one of the kids or my husband would check what’s for dinner that night then get started on prepping and cooking and we were all able to share in the task so nobody had to manage it all. It sounds corny but I’m so grateful to these developers for giving me my life back. It was so exhausting to think of ideas and make the list and do the shopping and put the groceries away and etc etc. Between this app and grocery delivery I’m a free woman!

  • Great app almost perfect

I do like the app but it is at times difficult to get the desired results when importing and inputting recipes. It needs to use the pantry as defaults on imports and inputting recipes. I would like the menu to be able to be placed instead of the bottom an option for either left or right and also to be able to hide it when wanted. The text editor could use some glossing up and beefing up and to utilize cooking measurements and the fractional items to not be a 1 then a / then 2 for one half. Give us fractions it takes too much actual typing to again get the desired results. Make it easier to format the recipes with buttons for recipe links, headers ect… For recipes that have videos how about the option to play them from the app? As a final upgrade how about being able to click on a time and set a timer?

  • Love it!!!

This app is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I upgraded to the paid version and at $9.99 one time and no data collection, it was a no-brainer for me. I have tried many different apps to help plan meals but this one is exactly what I was looking for.

It lets you go out to the web and search for recipes and then brings them in very quickly. It’s important to categorize them as you’re bringing them in because you’ll probably want to reference them later.

I haven’t used all of the features yet but one thing I discovered today while cooking is that the phone screen never goes to sleep and as you complete each step you can touch the screen and that step will be lined out.

There is an option to create templates from your weekly meals, but I haven’t tried that feature out yet as I’ve only had the app a couple of weeks.

Overall, I seriously love it and can definitely envision using it for a long time. It seems like an app that will get better with use and has transformed weekly meal planning for me from some thing that I always dread doing.

  • Worth paying for the full version

I really like how this app combines 3 things into one place:
    1) the calendar to plan your meals
    2) Your grocery shopping list
    3) Your pantry (which in the past I used to have two separate apps to keep track) The game changer in my opinion is how you can move items from your shopping list to the pantry, huge time saver.

I would have rated this app 5 stars but there were two things I was not able to get to work. One of them was Sharing the full version of this app with my family through the family purchases and the Apple store. I followed the instructions but could not get it to work on the 2nd device so I ended up paying for the full version on the 2nd device (but totally worth the money) now we can sync up.

The second item is scanning the recipes from Books doesn’t really work on my end. When I scan the list of ingredients they get mushed up together and I just end up entering the recipe manually.

importing the recipes from the web works really well, really awesome feature.

one suggestion to the developers, if possible. If the ingredients on the pantry could show up on the recipes just to get a quick overview of what’s on hand.

  • Great time and money saver--LOVE this app!

Another update: still using the app years later, and it just keeps getting better. I can’t think of any “wish list” items that haven’t been implemented. The import from websites has improved a lot, and even when I don’t expect it to work well I’m pleasantly surprised. A keeper!
Update: the developers listened to the "upload/download" concern and fixed it and of course there's an iPad version too. I do wish we could sync meal plans and shopping lists between devices, not just recipes. The ability to import recipes is awesome--I am constantly trying new things from Food Network and now many other websites. Love the new features! This is EXACTLY what I needed and we use it virtually every day!
Original: We are "those people" who were eating out 5-6 days a week, but since I've started using Meal Board we are enjoying meals at home, spending less, eating more healthfully and saving lots of time! I love the online counterpart and only wish it were more robust, and that the upload/ download were a little more mistake-proof. I too look forward to an iPad version so my DH and I can share ideas in one place. All in all, I am very satisfied. This app is one of my "go-to"s!

  • Loving it

For years, we’ve been using a home-built database app that does much of what this app does. Over time, the custom app has become increasingly difficult to maintain (and we’re letting it go), so this has been a perfect solution! I like being able to enter/import (especially import!!) recipes on the computer, select weekly menus (and cook) from the tablet, then shop from my phone. Everything stays in sync.

Normally we pick out six recipes for the week and then cook them in whatever order we feel like or have time for. Having to assign meals to a certain day takes away that flexibility, and this was a big negative for me at first. Over time we’ve gotten used to dragging and dropping recipes from one day to another and reorganizing as we go. Pretty amazing and easy! The pantry function is a bit confusing, but it’s more of a bonus than a requirement.

After trying several apps, I’m glad I found this one. Very happy with it, and the whole family has access to the evening’s dinner plans and shopping list. Best of all: one-time purchase with no ridiculous subscription plans!
